Motivational Profile and the Inclination of the Career of Student of Information Technology  [PDF]

Abstract:

The area of information technology (IT) has undergone constant changes that, consequently, impact directly on professional and in companies that work with this sector. The aim of this study was to identify the motivational profile and the slope on the professional career of the student. This is a field which is applied in questionnaires closed with students. The sample was composed 94 students of two universities of computer in Brazil. Two instruments used were the inventory of Schwartz values (IVS) that offer some perspectives of appreciation of employee matching your goals and interests, and the other instruments were the questionnaire by Edgar Schein on professional inclination, which allows you to identify the relationship and prospects of those with work and their lives. The results reveal that students and IT professionals surveyed here are self-determined individuals who value the lifestyle, benevolent and hedonists, seeking the welfare and satisfaction in work and love challenges. Then we conclude that professionals and IT students are or will be, mostly professionals looking for constant challenges and personal and professional satisfaction, adapting the work as best as possible to your lifestyle.

Abstract: research carried through with the objective to contribute with the knowledge about the job market for the information professionals, by the analysis of their roles in knowledge organizations. twelve consulting companies of human resources recruitment and selection were assessed to obtain information about the current job market demand. additionally, job market literature, professional qualifications required by the market and employers′ statements were collected and analyzed. four main conclusions were achieved: (1) professionals should continuously develop their technical abilities of typical information science as well as their behavioral attitudes; (2) the potentialities of those professionals are not always recognized by the job market; (3) as a consequence, it is not common to find information professionals on top level positions as analysts or managers, and (4) the main causes of the above deficiencies are both the lack of development of those abilities during the formation period, as well as the lack of recognition of the information professionals′ profile by the market and the self-image by themselves.

Abstract: Introduction. We discuss the concept of core competencies applied to policies for teaching and training information professionals, particularly librarians. Method. Sixty graduates of the Institute were employed as information professionals. These sixty were asked to attribute degrees of importance to specific items associated with knowledge and skills that, within the scope of this research, were considered core competencies for meeting the demands of their jobs. Participants were also asked to cite knowledge they acquired in school and knowledge they use in exercising their profession, the skills that they consider necessary but that they did not gain in school, and the difficulties they encounter in exercising their profession and for which they were not sufficiently well prepared. Analysis. Both quantitative and qualitative data analyses were performed. The data were tabulated using Access and several reports and cross-tabulations were generated. Results. The results suggest a gulf between knowledge and skills acquired in library school and those that are required by the job market. In particular, participants lacked the skills they needed to work with information and communication technologies. Conclusion. The concept of core competencies is increasingly taken into account by the productive sector of the economy. The educational system ought to keep up with this change. The empirical research described shows that there is a need to establish advanced and modern policies for the education of librarians, participants in the market for information professionals.

Abstract: The recent technological advancement has proved to be tremendously helpful for medical consultants. However, this advancement has also generated an enormous volume and variety of data, with a high velocity causing an information load for the medical consultants. Information overload can be defined as a difficulty a person can have in comprehending issue and making judgments that are caused by the presence of too much information. Information overload occurs when the amount of input to a system surpasses its processing capability. Decision-makers have a limited cognitive processing ability. Consequently, when information overload happens, it is possible that a decline in decision quality will take place. Decision-makers, such as medical consultants, have fairly limited cognitive processing capacity. Consequently, when information overload occurs, it is likely that a reduction in decision quality will occur. The aim of this study is to assess the impact of information overload on medical consultants’ life, its causes, and potential ways to deal with it. We performed a literature review to find the effects of information overload on medical consultants. Twelve research papers were considered for thematic analysis using NVivo 10 tool. These papers revealed four themes: 1) traditional methods of data collection; 2) modern ways of data collection; 3) consequences of modern ways of data collection; and 4) the need for handling information overload. This study suggests the development of a Continuing Professional Development course that explains how to deal with information overload, and availing the same through E-Learning mode might be one immediate solution.

Abstract: Cultivation and construction of professional talent team in library and information science have important practical significance on promoting the rapid development of professional information intelligence, improving the service level of information intelligence and meeting people’s requirements for information intelligence. The article firstly analyzes problems existed in cultivation of talent team in library and information science specialty, and then puts forward methods to solve problems with pertinence, providing references for cultivation and construction of talent team in library and information science specialty.

Abstract: a descriptive study over march-june, 2010 was conducted to assess the knowledges and practices associated with the copyright of information professionals from institutes and research centers of the health network of la habana. a questionnaire was administered to the professionals from 12 institutes and research centers. a focal group and an interview were made. the authors identified the knowledges on terms, relationships and implications of the copyright, as well as the correspondence among their knowledges and professional practices in the processes of development of collections, products designs, services provision and the information teaching. as main study results stood out the low level of professional's knowledges on terms, contents and copyright legislations, the implementation of some very frequent notions during the information teaching and the development of collections, as well as the recognition by involved in the study of their weakness and the need of overcoming of the same.
