Determining Keirsey Temperament Class of a Person Based on his GPS Data

Abstract: The smart phone market has steadily gone up in the recent years. The technologies have taken a further leap and immensely improved. The Global Positioning System (GPS) is one location acquisition technology that is present in almost every smart phone that we use. The dataset obtained from the location acquisition technologies can in some way be used to determine various useful results and conclusions from the movement patterns of a person. The places a person visits and the frequency of visits, to some extent describe his personality. This paper presents one such innovative idea to determine the Keirsey Temperament class of a person by processing his collected GPS data.
Performance of the Heston’s Stochastic Volatility Model: A Study in Indian Index Options Market  [PDF]

Abstract: This study attempts to analyse one-day-ahead out-of-sample performance of the stochastic volatility model of Heston (SVH) in the Indian context. Also, the study compares the ex-ante performance of the SVH with that of a Two-Scale-Realised-Volatility (TSRV)-based Black-Scholes model (BS) using the liquidity-weighted performance metrics. For the purpose, we utilise the tick-by-tick data of the CNX Nifty index and options thereon, the most liquid equity options in the world in terms of the number of contracts traded1. Additionally, the study compares the two models across subgroups based on the moneyness, volatility of the underlying and time-to-expiration of the options. The results establish that the SVH model is better than the BS model in pricing equity index options. Further, the SVH model appears to be superior across all the subgroups, for both call options and put options.

Effect of amino acids lysine and arginine on fracture healing in rabbits: A radiological and histomorphological analysis

Abstract: Background: Amino acids like arginine and lysine have been suggested to hasten the process of fracture healing by improving the local blood supply, supplementing growth factors, and improving collagen synthesis. We studied the role of lysine and arginine in the fracture repair process with regard to the rate of healing, probable mechanisms involved in the process, and mutual synergism between these agents. Materials and Methods: In an experimental study, 40 rabbits were subjected to ulnar osteotomy. They were distributed in control (14) and test groups (26). Twenty-six animals in the test group were fed with a diet rich in lysine and arginine. Both the groups were followed radiologically and histologically till union. Results: There was better healing of osteotomy in terms of better vascularization, callus formation, and mineralization in the test group. The time of healing in the test group was reduced by a period of 2 weeks. Conclusion: We conclude that amino acids like arginine and lysine may hasten fracture healing.
Studies on heterosis for grain yield and its component traits for developing new plant type hybrids in rice (Oryza sativa L.)

Abstract: The heterosis and heterobeltiosis were estimated for 15 grain yield, and its component traits in 27 cross combinations to developheterotic hybrids. The result revealed that grain yield and its component showed highly significant differences for all the traits.Among the 27 hybrids, five hybrids viz., IR58025A /IRFAN-115, IR58025A/SR-6-SW-8, IR58025A /ET 1-13, APMS 6A /ET 1-12, and APMS 6A /NPTR-2 showed significant heterosis for grain yield and seven hybrids showed significant negative heterosisfor earliness and three hybrids for plant height. These hybrids may be exploited for heterosis breeding and should be screened foryield stability.
Raising The Bar For Vertex Cover: Fixed-parameter Tractability Above A Higher Guarantee

Abstract: We investigate the following above-guarantee parameterization of the classical Vertex Cover problem: Given a graph $G$ and $k\in\mathbb{N}$ as input, does $G$ have a vertex cover of size at most $(2LP-MM)+k$? Here $MM$ is the size of a maximum matching of $G$, $LP$ is the value of an optimum solution to the relaxed (standard) LP for Vertex Cover on $G$, and $k$ is the parameter. Since $(2LP-MM)\geq{LP}\geq{MM}$, this is a stricter parameterization than those---namely, above-$MM$, and above-$LP$---which have been studied so far. We prove that Vertex Cover is fixed-parameter tractable for this stricter parameter $k$: We derive an algorithm which solves Vertex Cover in time $O^{*}(3^{k})$, pushing the envelope further on the parameterized tractability of Vertex Cover.

Abstract: The coordination compounds of PdII, PtII, RhIII and IrIII metal ions with a Schiff base ligand (L) i.e. 2,6- diacetylpyridine bis(thiosemicarbazone) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, molar conductance, magnetic susceptibility measurements, IR, NMR and electronic spectral studies. On the basis of molar conductance and elemental analyses the complexes were found to have composition [M(L)]Cl2 and [M’(L)Cl]Cl2, where M = Pd(II), Pt(II) and M’ = Rh(III), Ir(III). The spectral studies reveal that the complexes possess monomeric composition. Complexes of PdII and PtII were found to have four coordinated square planar geometry whereas the complexes of RhIII and IrIII posses six coordinated octahedral geometry. The ligand field parameters were calculated using various energy level diagrams. In vitro synthesized compounds and metal salts have been tested against some species of plant pathogenic fungi and bacteria in order to assess their antimicrobial properties.
Reliability Analysis of a Powerloom Plant Using Interval Valued Intuitionistic Fuzzy Sets  [PDF]

In this paper, we investigate the reliability analysis of a powerloom plant by using interval valued intuitionistic fuzzy sets (IVIFS). Herein, we modeled a powerloom plant as a gracefully degradable system having two units A(n) and B(m) connected in series. The reliability ofncomponents of unitAandmcomponents of unitBis assumed to be an IVIFS defined over the universe of discourse [0, 1]. Thus, the reliability of the system obtained is an IVIFS that covers the inherited uncertainty in data collection and reliability evaluation of a powerloom plant.

Abstract: Software reliability is defined as the probability of the failure-free operation of a software system for a specified period of time in a specified environment. Traditional approaches for software reliability analysis are black box approaches. These approaches use the software as a whole. At present, main emphasis of software is on reuse, hence component based software applications came into existence. Black box models are not appropriate for these applications. This paper introduces some significant factors for reliability estimation of Component Based Software Applications. Reliability of Component Based Software Application depends upon these factors. This paper also gives the definition of factors and explains its relation with reliability of software application.
