SILVA,SERGIO I.;
Revista chilena de historia natural , 2005, DOI: 10.4067/S0716-078X2005000300013
Abstract: i reviewed dietary information of 25 species of small mammals inhabiting chile and published in 11 scientific articles. i divided the contribution of each food item in five categories: fungi, vegetation, seeds, fruits and insects. this approach allowed me to represent the information documented in the form of de finetti diagrams, in which the trophic position of a species is represented by a point in an equilateral triangle. through correspondence analysis, i determined statistically the groups inside the diagram de fenetti. this analysis allowed me to group the species in seven trophic categories: herbivorous, insectivorous, omnivorous, granivorous-frugivorous, herbivorous/granivorous-frugivorous, herbivorous/insectivorous. food habits of species in muridae family incorporate mixed diets with a percentage fluctuation of each item, changing its food habits significantly among localities. the species a. bennetti, a. cinerea, a. andinus, c. lanigera, l. viscacia, m. niata, o. bridgesi and thylamys elegans incorporate monospecific diets with representativeness of 90 % of consumed item

Single axis controlled attraction type magnetic bearing
Horikawa, O.;Silva, I. da;
Journal of the Brazilian Society of Mechanical Sciences , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-73862002000400012
Abstract: this paper presents a new type of magnetic bearing with active control only in axial direction. the bearing uses two pairs of permanent magnets working in attraction mode to restrict the radial motion and a control system composed of two electromagnets, a gap sensor and a controller to keep the axis in a fixed axial position. the principle, the dynamic model for axial motion and the control system for this bearing are presented. finally, by experiments conducted in a prototype, the effectiveness of the presented concept is shown.
Successful Yukawa structures in Warped Extra Dimensions
Silva-Marcos, J. I.
High Energy Physics - Phenomenology , 2007, DOI: 10.1088/1126-6708/2007/03/113
Abstract: For a RS model, with SM fields in the bulk and the Higgs boson on the TeV-brane, we suggest two specific structures for the Yukawa couplings, one based on a permutation symmetry and the other on the Universal Strength of Yukawa couplings hypothesis (USY). In USY, all Yukawa couplings have equal strength and the difference in the Yukawa structure lies in some complex phase. In both scenarios, all Yukawa couplings are of the same order of magnitude. Thus, the main features of the fermion hierarchies are explained through the RS geometrical mechanism, and not because some Yukawa coupling is extremely small. We find that the RS model is particularly appropriate to incorporate the suggested Yukawa configurations. Indeed, the RS geometrical mechanism of fermion locations along the extra dimension, combined with the two Yukawa scenarios, reproduces all the present experimental data on fermion masses and mixing angles. It is quite remarkable that in the USY case, only two complex phases of definite value +-Pi/2 are sufficient to generate the known neutrino mass differences, while at same time, permitting large leptonic mixing in agreement with experiment.
Effect of inulin on the growth and survival of Bifidobacterium longum BB536 in fermented goat’s and cow’s milk
Marina ?imunek,Silva Eva?i
Mljekarstvo , 2009,
Abstract: Fermented dairy products were made from standardized goat and cow milk (2.9 % milk fat) with addition of 3 % skimmed milk powder (control samples), or with addition of 2 % inulin and 1 % skimmed milk powder (experimental samples). Fermentation of samples was carried out at 40 °C by thermophilic yoghurt culture YC-380 and probiotic culture Bifidobacterium longum BB536. Desired acidity (pH around 4.5) was achieved in all samples in about 5.5 h. Viable count of probiotic strain (logN/m) increased for all samples for on average 1.4 logarithmic units except for the sample of cow’s milk supplemented with inulin, which exhibited the highest growth of bifidobacteria for approximately 1.7 logarithmic units. During fermentation somewhat faster decrease of pH-value was observed in goat milk samples compared to cow milk samples. At the end of fermentation there was no statistically significant difference (P>0.05) in pH-values regardless of milk origin or inulin addition. During thirty days of fermented drink storage at lower temperature (about 6 °C), slightly lower pH-values were observed in cow milk samples compared to goat milk, especially in cow milk enriched with inulin. During storage, until the 15th day, an increase in the number of viable count of probiotic bacteria was observed in all samples, while from 20th to 30th day a decrease of 0.5 logarithmic units of the same parameter was recorded. In goat milk their survival was somewhat smaller compared to cow milk. The number of bifidobacteria in samples supplemented with inulin on the last day of storage, compared to control samples, was higher for 0.3 logarithmic units, regardless of the milk origin. After thirty days of refrigerated storage, recommended concentration of bifidobacteria was insured in all samples, thus directly implying that these fermented drinks can be included in probiotics.

FLEXIBILITY AT THE MARGIN AND LABOUR MARKET VOLATILITY: THE CASE OF SPAIN
HECTOR SALA,JOSé I. SILVA
