Dos edificios públicos a base de tierra en Chile
Pereira, Hugo
Informes de la Construccion , 1986,
Abstract: Two works in Chile are reported: The House of the Culture in La Florida (Santiago) and the Botalcura Concentred School in the Vlllth Zone. Both constructions have as common characteristic to be built with adobe and wooden girders, to present a certain continuity in the adapted criteria of desing -both from Architect Hugo Pereira- and to be newly constructed buildings, even partialy in construction. The fact that there are spaces with appropriate light and height for public use, so as the circumstance that the part which waas being constructed just at the moment of the great seism in Chile (February 1985) had and excelent behaviour, makes these works interesting to be published.
Hugo Silveira Pereira
Revista da Faculdade de Letras : Historia , 2011,
Abstract: on the second half of the XIX century, the Portuguese governments believed that the development of the kingdom required the widening of the credit to agriculture and the fostering of communications and education. In 1866 and 1867, to achieve the first of those requirements, the government published two laws that allowed charity institutions like the Misericórdias to use their assets in order to create rural and industrial banks. In Viana do Castelo, the local Misericórdia took advantage of that law and created the Banco Agrícola e Industrial Vianense.
O Banco Popular Português do Porto
Hugo Silveira Pereira
Revista da Faculdade de Letras : Historia , 2012,
Abstract: In the midst of the First World War, an entrepreneur in Porto decided to create a new bank, a different bank that should fill in a void in the Portuguese financing system, a popular bank. Emulating what was being done in Central Europe this popular bank had one great objective: to lend money to those who normally couldn’t afford to borrow money. Unfortunately, the good intentions of those investors went up in smoke when they realized that such good intention weren’t profitable nor could they be able to keep the bank running. Quickly did this popular bank became a commercial bank like so many others that were operating in the Portuguese market at the time. After a promising start, the bank suddenly went through some hardships, due to the crisis of the 1920’s and to bad investments, and eventually was shut down, after eleven years of activity.
Applicability of Data Mining Technique using Bayesians Network in Diagnosis of Genetic Diseases
Hugo Pereira Leite Filho
International Journal of Advanced Computer Sciences and Applications , 2013,
Abstract: This study aims to identify a methodology to aid in the identification of diagnosis for chromosomal abnormalities and genetic diseases, presenting as a tutorial model the Turner Syndrome. So, it has been used classification techniques based in decision trees, probabilistic networks (Na ve Bayes, TAN e BAN) and neural MLP network (Multi-Layer Perception) and training algorithm by error retro-propagation. Described tools capable of propagating evidence and developing techniques of generating efficient inference techniques to combine expert knowledge with data defined in a database. We have come to a conclusion about the best solution to work out the show problem in this study that was the Na ve Bayes model, because this presented the greatest accuracy. The decision - ID3, TAN e BAN tree models presented solutions to the indicated problem, but those were not as much satisfactory as the Na ve Bayes. However, the neural network did not promote a satisfactory solution.

A constru o da rede ferroviária do Minho : (1845-1892)
Hugo Silveira Pereira
CEM : Cultura, Espa?o & Memória , 2011,
Abstract: In the second half of the nineteenth century, after 30 years of political turmoil, Portugal was finally able to build transport infrastructures on a large scale. The first rails were deployed in 1852, but it was not until 1867 that railways in Minho were decreed, even though this idea had been proposed to the government since the 1850s. However, only in the 1870s did construction actually begin. Based on the debates that took place in both houses of the Portuguese parliament (as well as the Dicionário Biográfico Parlamentar to identify the congressmen) and on the reports of the Portuguese engineers, to which content analysis was applied, this study aims to explain the development of the Minho railway network between the 1850s and the 1890s, a period of great investments in public works.
As políticas ferroviárias ibéricas (1845-1860)
Hugo Silveira Pereira
CEM : Cultura, Espa?o & Memória , 2012,
Abstract: Portugal and Spain started to invest in railways about 15 years after other countries in Europe did the same. The strategies pursued by both these countries were rather different. Whereas Spain tried to create a legal framework wide enough to compass all the details of construction, Portugal opted for a more flexible approach, which could adapt to specific contexts. Comparing the Spanish bibliography about these issues with the Portuguese parliamentary debates and approved laws, the following text aims do describe and explain both countries railway strategies and how the Spanish approach brought an earlier success to this nation.
As viagens ferroviárias em Portugal (1845-1896)
Hugo Silveira Pereira
CEM : Cultura, Espa?o & Memória , 2010,
Abstract: Between 1852 and 1893 more than two thousand kilometres of railway were built in Portugal, changing the way people travelled across the Kingdom. Before that, travel only took place by river, by sea along the coast or by land where the lack of obstacles allowed it. This new form of transportation shortened distances and thus gave Portuguese travellers more time. Based on contemporary parliamentary debates, the technical opinions of Portuguese engineering (both manuscript in the records of the Ministry of Public Works and published in technical journals) and contemporary fictional literature, this study aims to describe and explain some of the changes to travelling habits in Portugal. We shall see that new habits were brought on by the railway, as well as new concerns and new opportunities, and it quickly became a widely-used public service.
Early times and thermalization in heavy ion collisions: a summary of experimental results for photons, light vector mesons, open and hidden heavy flavors
Hugo Pereira Da Costa
Physics , 2009, DOI: 10.1016/j.nuclphysa.2009.10.130
Abstract: This contribution summarizes the main experimental results presented at the 2009 Quark Matter conference concerning single and dilepton production in proton and heavy ion collisions at high energy. The dilepton invariant mass spectrum has been measured over a range that extends from the $\pi^0$ mass to the $\Upsilon$ mass, and for various collision energies at SPS, Fermilab, Hera and RHIC. This paper focuses on the various contributions (photons, low mass vector mesons, open and hidden heavy flavors) to this spectrum and discuss their implications on our understanding of the matter formed in heavy ion collisions.
Short-term cold storage of sperm from six neotropical characiformes fishes
Marques, Simone;Godinho, Hugo Pereira;
Brazilian Archives of Biology and Technology , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-89132004000500016
Abstract: sperm of the following neotropical characiformes fish species were tested for cold storage: brycon lundii, piaractus mesopotamicus, leporinus elongatus, leporinus friderici, prochilodus lineatus and prochilodus marggravii. each sperm sample was split into two aliquots. the first was placed into a plastic bag with air or oxygen and the second, in a plastic tube with air. the samples were maintained at temperatures between 1.7-4.9 oc. the rate of sperm motility was estimated using a 50 mm nacl solution as the activating solution. the shortest sperm storage duration (7 h) was recorded for l. friderici, when the sperm motility rate reached ~ 30%, whereas the longest duration (20 h) was obtained with the sperm of p. lineatus. a fertilisation test using prochilodus marggravii sperm refrigerated for 8 h yielded 88-90% of viable embryos. the refrigerated storage method could be of practical applications, especially in fish reproductive management at hatchery stations.
