Abstract: ctenium panzer presents about 6 species in brazil, and its southern limit of distribution is about 24oc. among these species, c. chapadense (trin.) doell and c. polystachyum balansa, as well as c. brachystachyum (nees) kunth and c. brevispicatum j.g. smith have been mistaken, and frequently appear misidentified in the herbaria. as a contribution to clarify the circumscription of these species, the useful characters to differentiate them and their geographical distribution are discussed, as well as illustrations are provided
Diversidade e distribui??o geográfica das espécies de Aristida L. (Gramineae) ocorrentes no Brasil
Longhi-Wagner, Hilda Maria;
Acta Botanica Brasilica , 1990, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-33061990000100008
Abstract: thirty four species of aristida l. were confirmed so far for brazil, 13 of them exclusives of this area. most are related to two general patterns of geographical distribution: the tropical and the subtropical. both include species with a broad distribution and species with a limited distribution. seven taxonomic characters are analysed and correlated to the species distribution: type of inflorescence; relative lenght of the glumes; and lemma: column, callus, articulation, ventral groove and awns. as a general rule, the species which occur in northern and central brazil present a more remarkable morphological discontinuity than the species from the south, and can more easily be differentiated in the field. a list of the species, their geographical distribution and a discussion about the 7 taxonomic characters mentioned above, including illustrations of the latter, are presented.

Dyslipidemia in psoriasis: as a risk for cardiovascular disease
Priya Hilda Dsouza,Maria Kuruville
International Journal of Research in Medical Sciences , 2013, DOI: 10.5455/2320-6012.ijrms20130502
Abstract: Background: Psoriasis is a common and recurrent proliferative inflammatory skin disease that has been associated with abnormal plasma lipid metabolism and with high frequency of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. The prevalence seems to be related to the severity of psoriasis, as it occurs more frequently in patients presenting with large areas of the body affected with lesions. The aim of our work was to evaluate the development of dyslipidemia in psoriasis, and to look for a correlation between their levels and severity of diseases in which the risk factors and secondary causes of hyperlipidemia were excluded. Methods: We evaluated the fasting lipid profile in twenty-four patients with mild to moderate psoriasis and twenty-four age and gender matched healthy subjects as the control group. Results: Patients presented risk changes in lipid profile, serum total cholesterol (p<0.001), triglyceride (p<0.01), LDL-cholesterol (p<0.001), VLDL-cholesterol (p<0.01) and TC/HDL ratio (p<0.01) were found to be significantly higher than in control group. No significant statistical difference was observed between HDL levels of the two groups. Significant positive correlation in total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol was found between mild and moderate psoriasis (PASI score) as compared with controls. Conclusion: Our data suggest that psoriasis patients must be considered as a group at high risk for cardiovascular, since psoriasis per se seems to be associated with risk changes in the lipid profile. We conclude that psoriatic patients should be evaluated and followed up for the risk of hyperlipidemia and cardiovascular diseases. [Int J Res Med Sci 2013; 1(2.000): 53-57]

O referencial de vulnerabilidade ao HIV/AIDS aplicado às famílias: um exercício reflexivo
Schaurich, Diego;Freitas, Hilda Maria Barbosa de;
Revista da Escola de Enfermagem da USP , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0080-62342011000400028
Abstract: the objective of this study is to reflect upon the vulnerabilities experienced by the families dealing with the human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (hiv/aids), and is based on the pertinent literature. to do this, we attempted to propose consideration related to the plurality of families in contemporaneity, and present the understandings and development regarding the vulnerability framework to the aids epidemics. finally, the study presents a description of the reflections made about the vulnerabilities to hiv and/or falling ill with aids to which the families are exposed to in their personal, social and pragmatic levels. in conclusion, it is emphasized that knowing these specific vulnerabilities experienced by the families is essential in order to guide and develop the health care actions.
Panicum sect. Dichotomiflora (Hitchc. & Chase) Honda e P. sect. Virgata Hitchc. & Chase ex Pilg. (Poaceae: Panicoideae: Paniceae) no Brasil
Guglieri, Adriana;Longhi-Wagner, Hilda Maria;Zuloaga, Fernando O.;

Análise da morfologia do fruto em espécies de Cyperus L. subg. Cyperus - Cyperaceae
Hefler, Sonia Marisa;Longhi-Wagner, Hilda Maria;
Acta Botanica Brasilica , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-33062008000300005
Abstract: a morphological analysis of the fruit and its surface was carried out in 16 taxa of cyperus l. subg. cyperus from southern brazil, aiming to obtain useful characteristics for differentiation. in the macromorphological analysis, characters like size, shape, color and those related to the base of the fruit are especially relevant. in the micromorphological analysis, the most important characters are surface ornamentation, distribution and shape of the epidermal cells, height and limits of the anticlinal walls, type of silica bodies and presence or absence of connections between these and the anticlinal walls. comparative tables for the taxa are provided and the diagnostic value of each character is discussed. the results support the differentiation of species that can be separated by external morphology, but have limited value in the differentiation of similar species. on the other hand, the results support proposals of synonymy for several taxa at specific or infraspecific levels.
A contribui??o da anatomia foliar para a taxonomia das espécies de Cyperus L. subg. Cyperus (Cyperaceae) ocorrentes no sul do Brasil
Hefler, Sonia Marisa;Longhi-Wagner, Hilda Maria;
Acta Botanica Brasilica , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-33062010000300014
Abstract: the leaf anatomy of 15 taxa of cyperus subg. cyperus from southern brazil was analyzed aiming to find anatomic characteristics useful for identification. all the taxa studied have radiate chlorenchyma around the vascular bundles, kranz anatomy of the chlorocyperoid type and air cavities with starred cells in the diaphragms. the most important diagnostic characters are leaf-blade shape in cross section, arrangement and stratification of hypoderm and bulliform cells, degree of air-cavity development, and vascular-bundle arrangement. the results were useful to separate some exomorphologically similar species but were not conclusive for the definition of all specific or infra-specific complexes observed. on the other hand, the results reinforced the proposition of synonymies indicated by previous exomorphological analyses and micromorphological data of the fruit surface. the diagnostic value of the analyzed data is discussed and a comparative table is provided.
