Advances in Molecular Imaging (AMI) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/ami.2018.82002
Abstract: Like any organ in children, the ear has particular anatomical features that are well shown in imaging. The petrous bone computed tomography (CT) is a valuable tool for diagnosing ear pathologies and evaluating surgical possibilities. In children, the ear has the peculiarity of having the morphology and size of adults, and the only difference resides in the components of the middle and inner ear related to the growth of the temporal bone and the state of ossification which are progressive with age. Some aspects of growth can simulate pathology and must be known. The pneumatisation of the temporal bone occurs gradually after birth and in several outbreaks until adulthood. The external auditory canal, the internal auditory meatus and the petromastoid canal progressively reach the adult aspect because of the growth of the petrous bone. This work aims to highlight the particularities of the petrous bone CT in pediatrics, since it has become widely used in the exploration of malformations, trauma, infectious complications of the ear and in the assessment of deafness.

Abstract: We report a case of a 14-year-old Moroccan boy, who presented with Ewing's sarcoma of his right calcaneus, diagnosed by swelling of the calcaneus evolving over a year. Radiography, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging showed an important tumoral process of the calcaneus and talus skip metastases. The diagnosis was confirmed with histology after a biopsy. In spite of amputation and postoperative chemotherapy, our patient died six months later due to secondary respiratory distress after lung metastasis.Imaging, especially magnetic resonance, is important in the diagnosis of Ewing sarcoma and skeletal skip metastases. Treatment of Ewing's sarcoma consists of chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgical resection depending on the stage and extent of the disease. With the exception of lesions in the calcaneus, the prognosis for disease-free survival of Ewing's sarcoma of the foot is excellent.Ewing's sarcoma is a rare malignant bone tumor that may affect any bone, usually occurring in long bones, pelvis and ribs, with only 3-5% of cases in the bones of the hands and feet [1]. It is a highly anaplastic round-cell tumor, primarily arising in the intramedullary portion of the bone.A 14-year-old Moroccan boy presented with painful swelling of his right foot of 12 months duration. A general examination was unremarkable, while local examination revealed a diffuse swelling involving his right ankle joint and foot. The overlying skin was normal. The swelling was tender and mobility at the joint was restricted. Hematological and biochemical investigations revealed a normal hemogram and normal liver and renal function tests.Anteroposterior (Figure 1) and lateral radiographs (Figure 2) showed a condensed lesion in the calcaneus of his right foot with aggressive periosteal reaction and soft-tissue swelling. Computed tomography (CT) revealed a soft-tissue mass of the foot originating from his calcaneus and a sclerotic lesion of the entire bone with aggressive spiculated

Abstract: Intracystic papillary carcinoma is a rare malignant tumor of the breast. It occurs communally in postmenopausal women. Clinically it can be asymptomatic or manifested by a breast mass or a nipple discharge. On imaging intracystic papillary carcinoma has usually benign features. Pathologic diagnosis can be difficult at classical histological examination and identification of myoepithelial cells layer by immunohistochemical study can be useful. In the majority of cases of pure intracystic papillary carcinoma, conservative management is possible. Adjuvant therapy is still controversial and prognosis is excellent. We report three cases of intracystic papillary carcinoma diagnosed on immunohistochemical examination and managed with conservative surgery.

1. Introduction Intracystic papillary carcinoma is an uncommon breast disease, constituting 0.5% to 1% of all breast cancers [1]. Papillary carcinomas are classified histologically into intraductal and intracystic papillary carcinoma [2]. Intracystic papillary carcinomas (IPCs) are further divided into pure form or associated to a ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) or invasive carcinoma [1]. Clinical and radiologic manifestations of IPC are not specific. On ultrasonography, it can be a pure cyst, a mixed image, or a solid mass. The recent use of immunohistochemical identification of myoepithelial cells layer (MEC) of the cysts seems to enhance pathologic diagnosis performance but its influence on prognosis is to be determined. Therapeutic management of IPC is also still controversial. Endocrine therapy and radiation are used by many centers but evidence of their role in prognosis improvement is still lacking. 2. Case Report 1 A 58-year-old woman presented with a mass in the upper internal quadrant of the left breast, without pain or nipple discharge. Physical examination revealed a 2?cm mass, non-well-defined, fixed and firm, nonpainful, and without skin changes. Mammography showed an oval opacity of the upper internal quadrant with no calcifications (Figure 1). Ultrasonography showed a cystic mass measuring 27?mm, with posterior acoustic enhancement and a little solid component (Figure 2). Surgical excision was performed. Figure 1: Mediolateral oblique mammogram which shows a soft-tissue mass, well limited in the left breast. Figure 2: Ultrasonography showed a cystic mass of 27?mm, with posterior acoustic enhancement, and a solid component. At the pathologic examination, the tumor was a cyst containing a solid grey material. Histological examination revealed an intracystic papilloma with atypical hyperplasia.

Abstract:
Desmoid tumors are invasive and aggressive deep fibromatosis rare in children. They occur in muscles, their sheaths and fasciae. Medical imaging (CT and MRI) can suggest the diagnosis, guide the therapeutic management and the follow-up. We report a pediatric case of desmoid tumor of the pelvis through which we describe the clinical and radiological appearance of these tumors in children.

Abstract:
The authors report three cases of post-traumatic hemobilia. Hemobilia complicates about 0.5% to 2% of liver injuries. The diagnosis can be difficult because of its possible delay of appearance. The ultrasound and CT scan performed urgently are of great help in both positive diagnosis and monitoring of this pathology. Once the diagnosis is made—immediatly or a while after the trauma—a diagnostic and therapeutic arteriography must be carried out quickly.
On the Zeros of Daubechies Orthogonal and Biorthogonal Wavelets  [PDF]

Applied Mathematics (AM) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/am.2012.37116
Abstract: In the last decade, Daubechies’ wavelets have been successfully used in many signal processing paradigms. The construction of these wavelets via two channel perfect reconstruction filter bank requires the identification of necessary conditions that the coefficients of the filters and the roots of binomial polynomials associated with them should exhibit. In this paper, orthogonal and Biorthogonal Daubechies families of wavelets are considered and their filters are derived. In particular, the Biorthogonal wavelets Bior3.5, Bior3.9 and Bior6.8 are examined and the zeros distribution of their polynomials associated filters are located. We also examine the locations of these zeros of the filters associated with the two orthogonal wavelets db6 and db8.

Journal of Service Science and Management (JSSM) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/jssm.2015.81002
Abstract: There is a lack of both integrative frameworks for container ports and dedicated ones to the Nordic region as observed in the literature. The purpose of this paper is to fill that gap by proposing a conceptual intelligent sustainability performance management framework for Nordic container ports. First a description of such framework is given where the application of artificial intelligence is vital. Then, scanning the literature for performance measurement, features of ports in the Nordic region and port sustainability is undertaken. A dedicated list of key performance indicators is suggested. Finally, a prototype based on hypothetical data is developed for demonstration purposes.
Peculiarities of CO2 exchange in soybean genotypes contrasting in grain yield  [PDF]

Advances in Biological Chemistry (ABC) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/abc.2012.23039
Abstract: The peculiarities of leaf carbon dioxide gas exchange in soybean genotypes grown in field over a large area and contrasting in duration of vegetation, photosynthetic traits and productivity were studied. Varietal differences in the daily and ontogenetic changes in photosynthesis and photorespiration were identified. It was established that the period of the high activity of photosynthetic apparatus in high productive soybean genotypes lasts for a longer time. The photosynthetic rate and the rate of CO2 release in light due to photorespiration are higher in high productive genotypes. A value of photorespiration in contrasting soybean genotypes constitutes about 28% - 35% of photosynthetic rate. The ratio of gross photosynthesis to photorespiration in genotypes with different productivity is constant enough during ontogenesis, indicating a direct positive correlation between gross photosynthesis and photorespiration. Therefore, contrary to conception arisen during many years on the waste-fulness of photorespiration, taking into account the versatile investigations on different aspects of photo-respiration, it was proved that photorespiration is one of the evolutionarily developed vital metabolic processes in plants and the attempts to reduce this process with the purpose of increasing the crop productivity are inconsistent.
