Abstract: following the construction of the hydroelectric power station of solteira island in the late 1960s, some areas were deforested and used as "lending areas". the soil was extracted from these areas, which acquired chemical and biological characteristics far from the ideal. this work aimed to evaluate the use of organic residues as a reconditioner of degraded subsoil and quantify its effects on soil microbial activity and fertility in 'barbatim?o' (stryphnodendron polyphyllum mart.) cultivation. the area is located at the unesp/ ilha solteira campus farm, in selvíria - ms. four sections (repetitions) of 250 m2 (10 x 25 m) were allocated, with 10 treatments for each, as follows: control; liming; fertilizing+n+p; liming+n+p; n+p+water hyacinth; n+p+sugar cane bagasse; n+p+water hyacinth+sugar cane bagasse; liming+n+p+water hyacinth; liming+n+p+sugar cane bagasse and liming+n+p+water hyacinth+sugar cane bagasse. the chemical characteristics of the subsoil were evaluated as well as plant growth, carbon microbial biomass (cmb) and released c-co2 , metabolic quotient (qco2) and microbial quotient (qmic), in 5 subsoil sample collecting times (june, august, november and december, 2005 and march, 2006). the subsoil displayed the same acid and poor nutrient level characteristics after a year. during the experiment, the cmb presented stabilization tendencies and the qco2 and qmic decreased in the same period. in all, even below the ideal level, the organic residues showed better results, with small positive differences for water hyacinth. cmb exhibited seasonal variations.

Abstract: due to the building of the hydroelectric power plant of ilha solteira, in the late 60s, some areas have been deforested and were used as "loan areas". thus, the soils belonging to these locations were subtracted and these areas' physical, chemical and biological properties became inappropriate. this work aimed at evaluating the use of chemical and organic fertilization to improve the degraded subsoil and replanting with mycorrhizal stryphnodendron polyphyllum ("barbatim?o"). the area is located at the experimental station (fepe), unesp/ilha solteira campus, in selvíria - ms. using the design of randomized blocks with four replications of 250 m2 plots (10 x 25 m), 10 treatments were evaluated: control; liming; fertilizing n + p; liming + n + p; n + p + water hyacinth; n + p + sugar cane bagasse; n + p + water hyacinth + sugar cane bagasse; liming + n + p + water hyacinth; liming + n + p + sugar cane bagasse; and liming + n + p + water hyacinth + sugar cane bagasse. chemical characteristics of the subsoil and plant growth were evaluated five times (june, august, november and december 2005, and march of 2006) and the root percent colonization was evaluated in march 2006. after a year the subsoil still remained acidic and of low chemical fertility. the steam diameter and plant height showed increasing results along the period, with the highest values for the treatments that received liming, n + p and organic residues. the percent mycorrhizal colonization and number of spores were positively influenced by the presence of organic residues.

Abstract: The aim of this research was to evaluate the risk factors related to condylar resorption (CR) after orthognathic surgery. Was realized a systematic review with a search of the literature performed in the electronic databases PubMed, MedLine, Ovid, Cochrane Library for current evidence in the world literature as conducted, and relevant articles were selected in according to inclusion and exclusion criteria and the findings were compared. Eight papers, (follow-up 12 months to 69 months) were including. A sample of 2567 patient with mandible or bi maxillary surgery with an age range from 14 to 46 year old was observed. In 137 patients (5.3%) CR was observed , with a 97.6% (122) female. CR was related to 118 cases with mandibular deficiencies with high mandibular plane (advancement surgery). CR were present principally in bi maxillary surgery with a 103 cases (75.2%) and only two papers show any analysis to the relation with TMJ dysfunction. Current evidence in CR is poor but supports those female patients with mandibular deficiency and high mandibular plane angle submitted to bi maxillary surgery with change in occlusal plane (counterclockwise) are associated with condylar resorption after orthognathic surgery.

Abstract: Background and Objectives Sudden cardiac death is the most common cause of mortality in chronic kidney disease patients, and it occurs mostly due to ventricular arrhythmias. In this study, we aimed at investigating the prevalence of ventricular arrhythmia and the factors associated with its occurrence in nondialyzed chronic kidney disease patients. Design, Setting, Participants and Measurements This cross-sectional study evaluated 111 chronic kidney disease patients (estimated glomerular filtration rate 34.7±16.1 mL/min/1.73 m2, 57±11.4 years, 60% male, 24% diabetics). Ventricular arrhythmia was assessed by 24-hour electrocardiogram. Left ventricular hypertrophy (echocardiogram), 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, and coronary artery calcification (multi-slice computed tomography) and laboratory parameters were also evaluated. Results Ventricular arrhythmia was found in 35% of the patients. Non-controlled hypertension was observed in 21%, absence of systolic decency in 29%, left ventricular hypertrophy in 27%, systolic dysfunction in 10%, and coronary artery calcification in 49%. Patients with ventricular arrhythmia were older (p<0.001), predominantly men (p = 0.009), had higher estimated glomerular filtration rate (p = 0.03) and hemoglobin (p = 0.005), and lower intact parathyroid hormone (p = 0.024) and triglycerides (p = 0.011) when compared to patients without ventricular arrhythmia. In addition, a higher left ventricular mass index (p = 0.002) and coronary calcium score (p = 0.002), and a lower ejection fraction (p = 0.001) were observed among patients with ventricular arrhythmia. In the multiple logistic regression analysis, aging, increased hemoglobin levels and reduced ejection fraction were independently related to the presence of ventricular arrhythmia. Conclusions Ventricular arrhythmia is prevalent in nondialyzed chronic kidney disease patients. Age, hemoglobin levels and ejection fraction were the factors associated with ventricular arrhythmia in these patients.

Abstract This article deals with the Brazilian elites of the First Republic and problematizes the importance of the social capital articulated by the intellectual “bachelors” that aimed to occupy the elite positions that came from the central power or from the states. In order to carry out this study, we propose a theoretical discussion on the concept of social capital and the dynamic of interaction among the power elites of the Old Republic. Finally, we point out the role of the articulation of the social relations among some of these intellectuals either in the characteristic form of the Brazilian rural oligarchy, the clientelism, or in the form of a positive relation, the social capital.
CAPITAL SOCIAL E QUALIDADE DE VIDA
Hemerson Luiz Pase
Revista Debates , 2012,
Abstract: This article discusses the relationship between political culture and socioeconomic development, making a historical development, establishing the different matrices of the occupational area of Rio Grande do Sul. The central hypothesis takes the classical formulations stating that the higher the stock of social capital the greater will besocioeconomic development, which is why public policy should be structured in order to stimulate it. The methodology uses empirical data that define trust, reciprocity andsolidarity as indicators of social capital that is used as the independent variable of IDESE, an indicator of socioeconomic development. The results indicate the relevanceof Putnam's theory, saying that there is a proportional relationship between social capital and socioeconomic development. Rural citizens have a stock of social capitalabove the city, which allows them to survive against the hostility of agricultural development.
