Abstract: cases of brasilian spotted fever (bsf) have been occurred since 1985, in the rural area of pedreira town, situated 160km away from the city of s?o paulo (longitude 46o54'07"; latitude 22o44'21"). aiming at evaluating the prevalence of brasilian spotted fever in this endemic area, single-serum samples were collected from 473 healthy persons, amongst city-dwellers and the local china industry workers. the obtained samples were tested by indirect immunofluorescence (ifa), in order to determine the antibodies titer for the group of brasilian spotted fever. twenty-five (5.3%) were considered positive (titer 3 1:64) and thirty-one (6.5%) were taken as "borderline" (titer 1:32). the results show a serologically positivity rate similar to other areas, known as endemic ones within the country.

Calvin’s sudden conversion (Subita Conversio) and its historical meaning ‘cor meum tibi offero, prompte et sincere’
H.B Lee
Acta Theologica , 2004,
Abstract: In Calvin research of the Twentieth Century, different approaches towards the question about Calvin’s ‘conversion’, as mentioned in the introduction to his commentary on the Psalms, have been followed. In this article a number of these approaches are discussed, as well as certain other issues, which should be taken into account. After a discussion of these issues the conclusion is drawn that Calvin’s conversion was not the product of a gradual recognition and human decision, but an event of a decisive regeneration, resulting in true and evangelical faith under the sovereign guidance of God. Calvin’s thought on the sovereignty of God provided the guiding principle for the Reformed faith. Therefore, Calvin’s conversion was more than the conversion of an individual. It was rather a matrix for the formation of the Reformed faith and the Reformed and Presbyterian Churches. It was also the guidance and special providence of God, completing the Reformation.
Determinations of mRNA s For TGF 2, 3 in Mouse Testes and Ovaries After a Five days Injection With Glycine or a Serine and Threonine Mixture
H.B. Ciftci
Journal of Animal and Veterinary Advances , 2012,
Abstract: This study is presented to test the effect of injecting a mixture of Serine/Threonine or Glycine amino acids to determine and measure the changes in mRNAs expression for TGF 2, 3 within the mouse testes and the ovaries. Male (n = 30) and female (n = 30) mice (CD-1 strain) were injected, once a day for 5 days, with 0.2 mL Saline (control), 0.2 mL Saline with a mixture of Serine/Threonine (test) containing 0.26 g L Threonine, 0.13 g L Serine or 38 ng Glycine (Test). Total RNA was extracted and transferred on to a nylon membrane then probed with 32P-lebelled cDNA probes. The expression of mRNA for TGF 2 increased in male mice while there were no differences in female mice. This study shows that TGF 2, 3 are expressed both in the ovary and testis and their expressions were increased by the injection of Serine/Threonine or glycine.
The role of God in the father/son relationship during identity formation – a Gestalt theoretical perspective
H.B. Grobler
Koers : Bulletin for Christian Scholarship , 2010, DOI: 10.4102/koers.v75i2.88
Abstract: This article is based on research done within the Afrikaansspeaking community in the area of the Drakenstein Municipality, Western Cape province, South Africa. The focus falls specifically on one concept that was outlined during the research, namely the perceptions of fathers and adolescent sons on identity formation within their relationship as well as the role that God plays. Combined qualitative/quantitative research was conducted with emphasis on semi-structured interviews with fathers (n=4) and adolescent boys (n=4) and an auto-ethnography of the author as the dominant component. The lessdominant quantitative component consisted of questionnaires completed by fathers (n=42) and adolescent boys (n=180). Metatheoretical assumptions and theoretical assumptions as grounding for the male identity are discussed as part of the author’s paradigmatic perspective. Furthermore, empirical findings are discussed and recommendations are made. From the discussions with fathers and their sons it was clear that both fathers and sons have a need to stand in close relationship to each other and to God. It is within this relationship where their identities are formed. However, fathers seemed to be resistant of transferring their beliefs to their sons. Adolescent boys also indicated no need to one day transfer learned behaviour from their fathers to their sons.

Nationality or religion?: views of Central Asian Islam (1901-1991)
H.B. Paksoy
Historia Actual Online , 2004,
Abstract: As the historical vista has already indicated, nationality does not necessarily equal religion, or vice-versa. Both attributes form parts of an identity defining function, as seen fit by the polity or the individual concerned. This is naturally true for Central Asians as well, as they have been buffeted by numerous waves of assaults, political or religious, on their identities over time stretching across millenia. Added to that mix are other elements, such as consciousness of origins as defined by leavening documents and linguistic affinity. This paper explores the basics of the mix that forms the underlying factors. Nationality, religion, Central Asia, literature, politics, anthropology, Soviet Union, ethnography, orientalism, democracy, nation-building, military, fundamentalism, history.
