Priolli, Denise Gon?alves;Martinez, Carlos Augusto Real;Mazzini, Décio Luiz Silva;Souza, Carlos Alberto Fontes de;Piovesan, Helenice;Nonose, Ronaldo;
Revista Brasileira de Ginecologia e Obstetrícia , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-72032005000500009
Abstract: desmoid tumors are neoplasms of the conjunctive tissue that are characterized by exclusive locoregional growth, frequent recurrence and minimal metastatic potential. they mainly affect individuals with familial adenomatous polyposis of the colon, and rarely occur isolated. the single form of this neoplasm most frequently appears in women of reproductive age, and during pregnancy. a case of a desmoid tumor of large proportions located in the abdominal wall is described. it appeared at the 17th week of pregnancy in a woman without any history of familial adenomatous polyposis. the neoplasm was totally extirpated, with the use of a polypropylene prosthesis for reconstitution of the abdominal wall. one year after the surgery, the patient continues to be well, while using non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for the prevention of relapses.
Classifica??o dos tumores da mama: atualiza??o baseada na nova classifica??o da Organiza??o Mundial da Saúde de 2012
Gobbi, Helenice;
Jornal Brasileiro de Patologia e Medicina Laboratorial , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S1676-24442012000600013
Abstract: the world health organization released the 4th edition of the classification of breast tumors in july 2012. this review summarizes the principal changes that were introduced in the new classification with emphasis on diagnostic and therapeutic implications. the major changes were: (i) the new edition is entirely dedicated to breast tumors; (ii) the epithelial tumors were sorted differently, recognizing nine special types and variants, and eleven rare types of breast tumors apart from invasive ductal carcinoma of no special type. new codes were included for the lobular, medullary, and metaplastic subtypes; (iii) new scores were suggested for the immunohistochemical evaluation of hormone receptor (> 1% positive cells) and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (her2) (> 30% highly positive cells surrounding the whole membrane); (iv) a new approach to molecular and genomic classification of breast cancer was presented including predictive and prognostic tests using gene expression profile; (v) the traditional terminology of intraductal proliferative lesions was maintained and the terminology ductal intraepithelial neoplasia was not recommended; (vi) the prognostic importance of distinguishing atypical lobular hyperplasia and lobular carcinoma in situ (lcis) within the spectrum of lobular neoplasia was acknowledged; (vii) the columnar cell lesions (columnar cell change and columnar cell hyperplasia without atypia) were excluded from the flat epithelial atypia group, whose biological behavior is still unknown. it is expected that the widespread use of the new classification by pathologists and oncologists will benefit patients by improving diagnostic and therapeutic decisions.
O intelectual no "campo" cultural francês: do "Caso Dreyfus" aos tempos atuais
Rodrigues, Helenice;
Varia Historia , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-87752005000200008
Abstract: intending to embody the universal figure of this model, the french intellectuals imposed themselves, from the end of the nineteenth century, as a conceptual and moral reference. beginning at the moment when the noun "intellectual" became a part of the french language on the occasion of the dreyfus case, this article attempts to recover the genealogy of this concept, showing its intrinsic relation to the current history and ideology. as will be seen, the notion of the intellectual, of essentially french origin, has a polymorphjc character. the concept changes meaning according to the evolution of french society and of history, so that different periods forged distinct models of representation of the intellectual. directly related to the idea of a mission - defense of the truth and of justice - french intellectuals, up to the end of the 1970s, confronted the dilemmas inherent in the ambiguity of their function: critical and utopian. the historical and epistemological inflections of these last three decades, including ways of acting and thinking, break definitively with the representation of the intellectual as "ma?tre à penser" and "political prophet". abandoning politics and the public space, intellectuals, reconverted into their new function of "specialist", are confined to the institutions that produce knowledge.

Rocha, Helenice Aparecida Bastos;
Revista Brasileira de História , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-01882010000200007
Abstract: this paper deals with an underlying problem in the brazilian school system which affects the teaching and learning of history - students' illiteracy. as this subject is based on written texts, history teachers' expectations of their students' literacy levels will directly impact on their choice of texts and the history they teach in the classroom. the paper presents an analysis based on language studies and written history in an effort to raise the problem of illiteracy in brazil and to contribute to its discussion in other areas. finally, some alternatives for the teaching of history in primary schools are presented.
"Rememora??o"/comemora??o: as utiliza??es sociais da memória
Silva, Helenice Rodrigues da;
Revista Brasileira de História , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-01882002000200008
Abstract: this article deals with national celebrations and their symbolic values, emphasizing the dimension of the future. looking for national consensus, political authorities invest in the remembrance of important dates to find in the past a historical legitimity which allows the consolidation of collective memory. thus, behind national commemorations, we do come across the question of time and its relationship to the past of history and the present of memory. basing on paul ricoeur's analyses, this text tries, on one hand, to tackle the mechanisms of appropriation of historical times, and on the other, the construction and transmission processes of a social memory.
Mathematical tool to size rural digesters
Florentino, Helenice de Oliveira;
Scientia Agricola , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-90162003000100028
Abstract: anaerobic digesters have been highlighted due to the current energy crisis and its consequent search for alternative energy sources, allied to the intense process of livestock farming and agriculture modernization, which besides demanding a lot of energy, produces a great amount of crop and animal residues, most of the times generating sanitary problems. the aim of this work is to provide a mathematical tool to establish parameters for projects of construction of rural digesters, considering the response to energy demand, the suitability of the dimensions of the systems, yield factors and the guarantee of functionality. non-linear optimization models, of easy resolution, for the three main types of rural digesters were formulated in this way. with the resolution of these models one can determine the height and the diameter that lead to a minimum volume for each type, so reducing the necessary amount of masonry and, consequently, diminishing the cost.
