Mathematics , 2014,
Abstract: In this paper, we firstly introduce the group of similarity transformations in the Minkowski-3 space. We describe differential- geometric invariants of a non-lightlike curve according to the group of similarity transformations of the Minkowski 3-space. We show extension of fundamental theorem for non-lightlike curves under the group of similarity of the Minkowski 3-space.

N?ropsikiyatri Ar?ivi , 2012,
Abstract: Background: The emotional schemes were closely linked to the resistance to change during cognitive behavioral therapy and emphasized the role of dysfunctional schemes in the resistance to therapy, particularly in anxiety disorders. In this regard, it may be important to clarify the emotional schemes of patients with alcohol dependence who are well-known for their resistance to therapy. Thus, we aimed to determine the dysfunctional emotional schemes and to investigate the relationships between schemas and some clinical features in patients with alcohol dependence. Methods: Sixty patients diagnosed as having alcohol dependence according to the DSM-IV and admitted to inpatient clinic between 2005-2009 for the treatment of withdrawal and 30 age-, gender-, and education-matched healthy volunteers were included in the study. The Leahy Emotional Schema Scale for determination of dysfunctional schema, the Scale of Beliefs About Alcohol Request, Relapse Prediction Scale for determination of risk of relapse, as well as the Beck Depression Inventory and the Beck Anxiety Inventory were used. Results: Alcohol-dependent patients scored significantly higher than the control group on "Guilt", "Rumination", "Blame", "Simplistic View of Emotion" and "Duration" emotional sub-schemas. On the other hand, the scores of “Comprehensibility ", "Consensus", "Uncontrollability" and "Feelings of Acceptance" emotional subschemas were found to be significantly lower than those in the control group.Significant associations were observed between the scores of Scale of Beliefs about Alcohol Request and Comprehensibility, Guilty and Blame. In addition, there were significant associations between depression and anxiety severity, Relapse Prediction Scale and some emotional scheme dimensions. Conclusion: Our study indicates that individuals with alcohol dependence have somedifferent maladaptive schemas from healthy controls. In addition, the presence of significant associations between some emotional schemas and depression and anxiety levels, the scores of Relapse Prediction Scale and Scale of Beliefs about Alcohol Request seems to be important. Future prospective and larger sample studies focused on the treatment of addiction in this area may provide meaningful contributions to the etiology and treatment of alcohol dependence. The Analysis of the Van-Ercis Earthquake, October 23, 2011 Turkey, for the Transportation Systems in the Region  [PDF]
Hakan Aslan
Open Journal of Earthquake Research (OJER) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ojer.2013.24009
Abstract:

This paper investigates the effect of the Van-Ercis, Turkey, (Mw: 7.2)earthquake occurring on 23rd of October, 2011 on the transportation networks in the region. The basic incentivefor this research is to conceptualise the reliability and performance of the networks after the earthquake through the operational and topological analysis of the system. The demand and composition of the traffic along with the behaviour of the pedestrians were taken into account to evaluate the performance of the networks. In addition, the general structure of the cities and towns, as far as planning is concerned, is also paid attention and regarded as one of the main elements for the appraisal. The outcomes obtained are thought very important to be guidance for the expected Istanbul earthquake in the near future.

Abstract: Background: The efficacy of drug-eluting stents has been shown in randomized trials, but some controversy exists regarding which stent sirolimus-eluting or paclitaxel-eluting is more effective in unselected Turkish patients. Therefore, we investigated the clinical outcomes of patients who were treated with one type of these drug-eluting stents in the real world. Methods: We created a registry and prospectively analyzed data on a consecutive series of all patients who presented to our institution with symptomatic coronary artery disease between February 2005 and March 2007 and who were treated with the sirolimus- or the paclitaxel-eluting stent. The follow-up period after stent implantation was approximately 24 months. The primary end point was a major cardiac event, and the secondary end point was stent thrombosis. Informed consent was obtained from all subjects, and the study protocol was approved by the local ethical committee. Results: In total, 204 patients were treated with either the sirolimus-eluting stent (n = 103) or the paclitaxel-eluting stent (n = 101). The lesions in the 2 arms of the study were treated similarly by conventional technique. At 24-month follow-up, patients who received the paclitaxel-eluting stent showed significantly higher rates of non-Q-wave myocardial infarction (1.9% vs 5.9%; P: .002), target vessel revascularization (1.9% vs 4.9%; P: .002), coronary artery bypass graft surgery (1.9% vs 6.9%; P: .001), and late stent thrombosis (1.9% vs 3.9%, P: .002). Conclusions: Patients who received the sirolimus-eluting stent showed better clinical outcomes compared with those who had the paclitaxel-eluting-stent.
Management of Spinal Epidural Lipomatosis: A Report of Two Cases

Journal of Neurological Sciences , 2012,
Abstract: Spinal epidural lipomatosis (SEL) is a rare cause of spinal cord or dural sac compression. It is more common in males and usually affects the thoracic spine. This condition is often a consequence of excessive endogenous corticosteroid production or exogenous steroid administration for various intercurrent systemic diseases. The case histories of two patients suffering from lumbar SEL are reviewed and the management of the patients discussed, we are encouraged to report two cases. They are benign lesions, frequently presenting low back pain or neurogenic claudication, should be considered in the differential diagnosis, in patients with low back pain and radiculopathy. Conservative treatment should be attempted with obesity, steroid use and endogenous steroid disease, provided that there are no neurological deficits. Surgical treatment with SEL is the gold standard in patients with intractable pain or neurological deficit.

International Journal of Medical Sciences , 2011,
Abstract: Background: Our purpose was to investigate the clinical outcomes of Zotarolimus- and Paclitaxel-eluting stents in Turkish patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). In general, the outcome of drug-eluting stent (DES) placement has a proven efficacy in randomized trials. However, the difference in efficacy between the Zotarolimus and Paclitaxel-eluting stents in unselected Turkish patients is controversial. Therefore, we investigated the clinical outcomes of these two drug-eluting stents in the real-world. Methods: We created a registry and prospectively analyzed data on a consecutive series of all patients who presented to our institution with symptomatic coronary artery disease between February 2005 and March 2007 and who were treated with the zotarolimus- or the paclitaxel-eluting stent. The follow-up period was approximately two years. The primary end-point was major cardiac events, and the secondary end-point was definite stent thrombosis. Informed consent was obtained from all subjects, and the study protocol was approved by the local ethical committee. Results: In total, 217 patients were treated with either the zotarolimus-eluting stent (n = 116) or the paclitaxel-eluting stent (n = 101). The lesions in the 2 arms of the study were treated similarly by conventional technique. At 24-month follow-up the paclitaxel-eluting stent group showed significantly higher non-Q wave myocardial infarction (2.6% vs 5.9%, p: 0.02), Q wave myocardial infarction (1.7% vs 5.9%, p: 0.049), coronary artery binding graft surgery (2.6% vs 6.9%, p: 0.002), and late stent thrombosis (1.7% vs 3.9%, p: 0.046). Conclusions: Zotarolimus-eluting stents demonstrated better clinical outcomes than Paclitaxel-eluting stents in a daily routine practice of coronary intervention in an unselected Turkish population.
Wireless Capsule Cystoscopy: How Near? How Far?  [PDF]
Hakan ?ztürk
Open Journal of Urology (OJU) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/oju.2014.44007
Abstract:

It is a fact that performing endoscopy using conventional methods requires substantial time and development of alternative diagnostic modalities. Replacement of rigid endoscopes with flexible and digital devices in time, faster performance of the procedures and reduced time for them to turn back to work brought about the expectancy. It was possible that easier and more reliable methods could exist. Idea of capsule endoscopy was born following examination of the gastrointestinal tract with an endoscope with shape of a capsule. Although idea of capsule endoscopy was suggested long years ago, it fell behind the advances in conventional step of the endoscopy, especially developmental speed of the flexible devices. Furthermore, three-dimensional (3D) organ views can be processed digitally by means of sophisticated software in the fields of computerized tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. Thus, virtual cystoscopy of high resolution and specificity is possible by means of both methods. Wireless capsule endoscopy is still in the experimental stage. “Steerable independent intracorporeal endoscope” with feature of consecutive instillation in addition to its diagnostic utility is not a dream.
