The Predictive Effects of Online Communication on Well-Being among Chinese Adolescents  [PDF]

Abstract: Based on theories and previous studies on online communication, we proposed two hypotheses to better under- stand the effects of online communication on subjective well-being with a sample of Chinese adolescents (n = 190). The results of liner regression analysis found that online communication was positively related to adoles- cents’ subjective well-being. For boys, the coefficient of determination of online communication on subjective well-being was .143, and for girls the coefficient of determination was .040, indicating that boys benefit more from online communication than do girls.
Impact of group music therapy on the depression mood of college students  [PDF]

Abstract: The goal of this study was to examine the effects of group music therapy on depression and mental health among college students. 80 students participated in this study, with 40 assigned to control group and other 40 assigned to experimental group. The results showed that after the group music therapy, for the experimental group, the depression scores have reduced significantly and the mental health scores have improved, while for the control group, no significant difference was obtained on the de-pression and mental health scores. This indicates that group music therapy can effectively reduce depression and improve mental health.

Abstract: Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a serious disease which is characterized by increased vascular resistance and pressure. We have previously hypothesized that panax notoginseng saponins (PNS) might attenuate pulmonary vasoconstriction under hypoxia and hypercapnia condition. This study aims to investigate the effect of notoginsenoside Rg1, a main ingredient of PNS, with various concentrations (8, 40, 100 mg/L, respectively) on extracellular signal regulated kinase (ERK1/2) signaling pathway in pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cells (PASMCs). In addition, PASMCs were randomly divided into six groups: SD rat under normoxic condition as control group (N group), hypoxia hypercapnia group (H group), DMSO control group (HD group), Rg1-treatment groups (RgLRgM and RgH group). Western-blot and RT-PCR were used to test the expression of p-ERK protein and the expression of ERK1 mRNA and ERK2 mRNA. This study provided the evidence that the expression of p-ERK protein and the expression of ERK1 mRNA and ERK2 mRNA in HD group and H group were obviously higher than that in N group (P < 0.01), Whereas the level of ERK1/2 mRNA in Rg1-treatment groups was significantly lower than that in HD group and H group (P < 0.01), and the proper concentration of Rg1 is 40 mg/L. These results suggested that notoginsenoside Rg1 can attenuate pulmonary vasoconstriction which may lead to HHPV through reducing the expression of ERK1/2.
Research on the Influence of Foreign Trade on Upgrading of Industrial Structure in Shaanxi Province —Empirical Analysis Based on New Silk Road Economic Belt  [PDF]

Abstract: The construction of the “New Silk Road Economic Belt” will inevitably expand the development scale of foreign trade in economic belt relevant area. Based on the data from 1990 to 2013 in Shaanxi Province, this paper analyzes the economic correlation effects of foreign trade on the upgrading of industrial structure in Shaanxi province by using gray relation analysis method. Results show that the foreign trade is highly correlated with GDP and three industrial added values. Moreover, performance of foreign trade and upgrading of industrial structure of Shaanxi Province are also analyzed by using Co-integration and Granger test. It is found that foreign trade has the most promotion to the third industry, the second industry follows, and the first industry least. That is to say, foreign trade of Shaanxi Province is constantly promoting industrial structure shift from “Two ? Three ? One” model to the “Three ? Two ? One” model.

We study a random planar honeycomb lattice model, namely the random double hexagonal chains. This is a lattice system with nonperiodic boundary condition. The Wiener number is an important molecular descriptor based on the distances, which was introduced by the chemist Harold Wiener in 1947. By applying probabilistic method and combinatorial techniques we obtained an explicit analytical expression for the expected value of Wiener number of a random double hexagonal chain, and the limiting behaviors on the annealed entropy of Wiener number when the random double hexagonal chain becomes infinite in length are analyzed.

Edwardsiella Comparative Phylogenomics Reveal the New Intra/Inter-Species Taxonomic Relationships, Virulence Evolution and Niche Adaptation Mechanisms

Abstract: Edwardsiella bacteria are leading fish pathogens causing huge losses to aquaculture industries worldwide. E. tarda is a broad-host range pathogen that infects more than 20 species of fish and other animals including humans while E. ictaluri is host-adapted to channel catfish causing enteric septicemia of catfish (ESC). Thus, these two species consist of a useful comparative system for studying the intricacies of pathogen evolution. Here we present for the first time the phylogenomic comparisons of 8 genomes of E. tarda and E. ictaluri isolates. Genome-based phylogenetic analysis revealed that E. tarda could be separate into two kinds of genotypes (genotype I, EdwGI and genotype II, EdwGII) based on the sequence similarity. E. tarda strains of EdwGI were clustered together with the E. ictaluri lineage and showed low sequence conservation to E. tarda strains of EdwGII. Multilocus sequence analysis (MLSA) of 48 distinct Edwardsiella strains also supports the new taxonomic relationship of the lineages. We identified the type III and VI secretion systems (T3SS and T6SS) as well as iron scavenging related genes that fulfilled the criteria of a key evolutionary factor likely facilitating the virulence evolution and adaptation to a broad range of hosts in EdwGI E. tarda. The surface structure-related genes may underlie the adaptive evolution of E. ictaluri in the host specification processes. Virulence and competition assays of the null mutants of the representative genes experimentally confirmed their contributive roles in the evolution/niche adaptive processes. We also reconstructed the hypothetical evolutionary pathway to highlight the virulence evolution and niche adaptation mechanisms of Edwardsiella. This study may facilitate the development of diagnostics, vaccines, and therapeutics for this under-studied pathogen.
RNA-seq liver transcriptome analysis reveals an activated MHC-I pathway and an inhibited MHC-II pathway at the early stage of vaccine immunization in zebrafish

Abstract: Average reads of 18.13 million and 14.27 million were obtained from livers of zebrafish immunized with phosphate buffered saline (mock) and E. tarda vaccine (WED), respectively. The reads were annotated with the Ensembl zebrafish database before differential expressed genes sequencing (DESeq) comparative analysis, which identified 4565 significantly differentially expressed genes (2186 up-regulated and 2379 down-regulated in WED; p<0.05). Among those, functional classifications were found in the Gene Ontology database for 3891 and in the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes database for 3467. Several pathways involved in acute phase response, complement activation, immune/defense response, and antigen processing and presentation were remarkably affected at the early stage of WED immunization. Further qPCR analysis confirmed that the genes encoding the factors involved in major histocompatibility complex (MHC)-I processing pathway were up-regulated, while those involved in MHC-II pathway were down-regulated.These data provided insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying zebrafish immune response to WED immunization and might aid future studies to develop a highly immunogenic vaccine against gram-negative bacteria in teleosts.
Degradation of metsulfuron-methyl in soils Ⅰ.Effect of soil properties

Abstract: The ANOVA results showed that degradation of metsulfuron-methyl was different among various soils. Five principal factors were selected by principal factor analysis and they represented 90.4% of total information. The multivariate regression equations were established between soil properties and metsulfuron-methyl residues after stepwise regression analysis. The partial correlation and path analysis indicated that soil pH and microbial activity were the most significant factors controlling the degradation of metsulfuron-methyl in soils.
