A New Strategy for Solving a Class of Constrained Nonlinear Optimization Problems Related to Weather and Climate Predictability

Abstract: There are three common types of predictability problems in weather and climate, which each involve different constrained nonlinear optimization problems: the lower bound of maximum predictable time, the upper bound of maximum prediction error, and the lower bound of maximum allowable initial error and parameter error. Highly efficient algorithms have been developed to solve the second optimization problem. And this optimization problem can be used in realistic models for weather and climate to study the upper bound of the maximum prediction error. Although a filtering strategy has been adopted to solve the other two problems, direct solutions are very time-consuming even for a very simple model, which therefore limits the applicability of these two predictability problems in realistic models. In this paper, a new strategy is designed to solve these problems, involving the use of the existing highly efficient algorithms for the second predictability problem in particular. Furthermore, a series of comparisons between the older filtering strategy and the new method are performed. It is demonstrated that the new strategy not only outputs the same results as the old one, but is also more computationally efficient. This would suggest that it is possible to study the predictability problems associated with these two nonlinear optimization problems in realistic forecast models of weather or climate.

Abstract: A novel series of resveratrol derivatives were synthesized according to Wittig-Horner reaction with 3,5-dihydroxybenzyl alcohol or 3,5-dimethoxybenzyl alcohol or 4-hydroxybenzyl alcohol as raw material and the inhibitory activities on breast carcinoma (MDA-MB-231) and gastric carcinoma cell lines (SGC-7901) in vitro were evaluated by the standard methyl thiazole tetrazolium (MTT) method. The result of biological test shows that some of resveratrol derivatives possess stronger anti-cancer activities than 5-FU. Compound 5c shows the strongest activity against breast carcinoma (MDA-MB-231) and gastric carcinoma cell lines (SGC-7901) with IC50 value of 50.19 ± 1.02 μM, 122.68.27 ± 2.04 μM, compared to that IC50 value of 5-FU is 98.59±3.61 μM,156.74±6.16 μM, respectively.

Abstract: After the occurrence of unexpected group events of network, the relevant opinion information will spread rapidly through micro-blog, and the negative public opinion information will aggravate the unexpected the group events to upgrade and expand the scope of harm. It is difficult to deal. So public opinion control is very important. In this paper, we establish an influence model for spreading of public opinion based on SIR model. Through the political analysis, this paper finds that the network group events will subside, but the influence scope, time and ability of event cannot be ignored. As a result of this study, the corresponding strategies are put forward in this paper.

Abstract: At this stage, China society in conflict-prone period, the network group events developed rapidly. Network group events had a significant impact on society. The trend which the online group event evolved into the offline group incidents is becoming evident. In this paper, we used grounded theory to study the evolution and the development process of network group events under the micro-blog platform. We present an evolution mechanism model of network group event under micro-blog platform and find the formation mechanism of the network of public opinion, intrinsic motivation and the evolution of the network group events.

Research on Network Group Event Recognition Based on Neural Network  [PDF]

Abstract: Sina Weibo is one of China’s most popular SNS platforms, which has a large number of user groups. Nowadays, the public opinion on Sina Weibo has great influence and significantly affects the social reality. This paper defines the network group events from aspects of the nature of the incident and influence and establishes a neural network of pattern recognition model that is used to fit the model. The model can recognize the network group events through continuous three days’ various topics growth rate. By programing a crawler, we get the data of 23 hot events on Sina Weibo from 2011 to 2015 for neural network training. The training results of pattern recognition model show that the accuracy rate of the judgment of the Internet Group events and the non-network group events is 72.7% and 75% respectively. The overall accuracy was 73.9%.

Abstract: Gibberellin (GA) 2-oxidases play an important role in the GA catabolic pathway through 2β-hydroxylation. There are two classes of GA2oxs, i.e., a larger class of C19-GA2oxs and a smaller class of C20-GA2oxs. In this study, the gene encoding a GA 2-oxidase of rice, Oryza sativa GA 2-oxidase 5 (OsGA2ox5), was cloned and characterized. BLASTP analysis showed that OsGA2ox5 belongs to the C20-GA2oxs subfamily, a subfamily of GA2oxs acting on C20-GAs (GA12, GA53). Subcellular localization of OsGA2ox5-YFP in transiently transformed onion epidermal cells revealed the presence of this protein in both of the nucleus and cytoplasm. Real-time PCR analysis, along with GUS staining, revealed that OsGA2ox5 is expressed in the roots, culms, leaves, sheaths and panicles of rice. Rice plants overexpressing OsGA2ox5 exhibited dominant dwarf and GA-deficient phenotypes, with shorter stems and later development of reproductive organs than the wild type. The dwarfism phenotype was partially rescued by the application of exogenous GA3 at a concentration of 10 μM. Ectopic expression of OsGA2ox5 cDNA in Arabidopsis resulted in a similar phenotype. Real-time PCR assays revealed that both GA synthesis-related genes and GA signaling genes were expressed at higher levels in transgenic rice plants than in wild-type rice; OsGA3ox1, which encodes a key enzyme in the last step of the bioactive GAs synthesis pathway, was highly expressed in transgenic rice. The roots of OsGA2ox5-ox plants exhibited increased starch granule accumulation and gravity responses, revealing a role for GA in root starch granule development and gravity responses. Furthermore, rice and Arabidopsis plants overexpressing OsGA2ox5 were more resistant to high-salinity stress than wild-type plants. These results suggest that OsGA2ox5 plays important roles in GAs homeostasis, development, gravity responses and stress tolerance in rice.

Abstract: Delivery of therapeutic peptides or proteins into tissues is severely limited by the size and biochemical properties of the molecules. Protein transduction domain (PTD)-mediated cargo transduction represents a novel and promising strategy to deliver biologically active peptides in vivo. The first PTD was identified from the HIV-1 transactivating transcriptional activator protein Tat in 1988. Since then, other PTDs have also been identified, including the third α-helix of the antennapedia homeotic transcription factor and synthetic peptide carriers. However, Tat PTD (amino acids 47 - 57) has shown markedly better ability for intracellular delivery than other PTDs. It has been demonstrated that fusion peptides containing the Tat PTD enter the central nervous system after systemic administration. Our previous study has shown that i.p. injected Tat-PSD-95 PDZ2 expresses in the central nervous system and significantly disrupts PDZ domain-mediated protein interactions between PSD-95 and N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor subunit NR2A/2B, thereby alleviating chronic pain. Therefore, Tat-mediated intracellular delivery can be used for systemic administration of analgesics in pain management.

Abstract: In mineral processing engineering disciplines, flotation, as a primary beneficiation method, is performed on the basis of surface chemical properties of minerals and rocks. The surface chemistry of minerals and rocks can be artificially changed to achieve minerals flotation separation. Thus chemistry plays a very important role in mineral processing engineering disciplines. Analysis shows that inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry and physical chemistry are all required courses for undergraduate students majoring in mineral processing engineering. Analytical chemistry and further quantum chemistry for advanced talent training at the graduate education level are necessary. Chemistry lays the foundation for realizing resource use in efficiency, integration and cleanliness, and plays a significant role in wastewater recycling, zero discharge and environment protection. Emphasizing chemistry education and improving chemistry expertise are an important guarantee for environment protection and sustainable development of mineral resources exploitation and utilization.

Abstract: The evolution of monthly runoff is affected both by climate environment and human activities, and its characteristics play an important role in runoff prediction and simulation. In this paper, the G-P and the principal component analysis method, which are both based on the reconstruction theory of the phase space, are used to study the chaos characteristics of the monthly runoff series at Fudedian station in Liaohe basin. The results show that the monthly runoff series have a large probability of chaos.
