A New Method to Calculate the Recoverable Reserves and Recovery Ratio of Shale Gas Reservoir  [PDF]

Abstract: At present, the most commonly used method to calculate recoverable reserves of shale gas reservoirs is the production decline curve method, which is only applicable to the production wells with decreasing production. For the production wells with constant productions, the material balance method could be used to calculate the recoverable reserves, but it does not consider the particularity of shale gas reservoirs. Under this circumstance, this paper deduces a new calibration method for recoverable reserves of shale gas reservoirs with double porosity medium. The method is based on the material balance equation, which has a wide application range. The method cannot only calculate the recoverable reserves and recoveries of free gas in fractures, but also calculate recoverable reserves and recoveries of free gas and adsorbed gas in the matrix. The calculated results show that the free gas in the shale gas reservoir is mainly in the fractures. The recovery of the free gas in the fractures is relatively high and the recovery of the free gas and adsorbent gas in the matrix is rather low. Gas reservoir recovery and recoverable reserves are more sensitive to abandonment pressure, therefore, in the production process, the reduction of the abandonment pressure of gas reservoir should be attempted. The matrix porosity, the adsorption phase density and the crack compression coefficient have a greater effect on the recovery rate. And the study of these parameters needs to be strengthened in order to obtain more accurate parameters.
Superresolution measurement on the minute fluctuation of cell membrane

Abstract: A novel method for measuring the minute fluctuation of cell membrane is developed by modifying the super-resolution theory, increasing dimension in Fourier space, enhancing brightness gradient and utilizing maximum adaptive weighted averaging filter (MAWA) in obstructing noise. The application of the method in studying aspergillus flavus cell (AFC) and red blood cell and the new findings from the study show that it is a useful tool.
A Randomized Study of Gemcitabine plus Oxaliplatin versus Gemcitabine plus Cisplatin as the 1st Line Chemotherapy for Advanced Non-small Cell Lung Cancer in Elderly Patients

Abstract: Background and objective Platinum-based chemotherapy is considered the standard treatment of advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of gemcitabine plus oxaliplatin (GO) versus gemcitabine plus cisplatin (GP) regimens as the 1st line chemotherapy for elderly patients with advanced NSCLC. Methods Sixty-six advanced NSCLC patients confirmed with pathology or cytology, who had not received treatment, were randomly divided into GO group (The patients received gemcitabine 1,000 mg/m2 on day 1 and day 8 and oxaliplatin 130 mg/m2 on day 1 by intravenous infusion, with 21 days as one cycle) and GP group (The patients received gemcitabine 1,000 mg/m2 on day 1 and day 8 and cisplatin 25 mg/m2 on day 1, day 2 and day 3) by intravenous infusion, with 21 days as one cycle). All patients who received 2 or more cycles could be evaluated. Results There were no statistical differences between GO and GP groups in the efficiency of disease (36.4% vs 40.6%, P=0.801), the median progression-free survival (24 weeks vs 18 weeks, P=0.565), the median survival time (44 weeks vs 36 weeks, P=0.918), but anemia at grade III and IV (0 vs 33.3%, P<0.001) and nausea/vomiting at grade III and IV (0 vs 27.3%, P=0.004) were significantly different. Conclusion The clinical efficiency of GO and GP regimens as the 1st line chemotherapy for advanced NSCLC in elderly patients was similar, but the toxicity of GO regimen has the tendency to be more tolerable and safer.
Splashing phenomena of room temperature liquid metal droplet striking on the pool of the same liquid under ambient air environment

Abstract: In this article, the fluid dynamics of room temperature liquid metal (RTLM) droplet impacting onto a pool of the same liquid in ambient air was investigated. A series of experiments were conducted in order to disclose the influence of the oxidation effect on the impact dynamics. The droplet shape and impact phenomenology were recorded with the aid of a high-speed digital camera. The impact energy stored in the splash structures was estimated via a theoretical model and several morphological parameters obtained from instantaneous images of the splash. It was observed that the droplet shape and the splashing morphology of RTLM were drastically different from those of water, so was the impact dynamics between room temperature LM pool and high temperature LM pool. The energy analysis disclosed that the height of the jet is highly sensitive to the viscosity of the fluid, which is subjected to the oxidation effect and temperature effect simultaneously, and thus perfectly explained the phenomena. These basic findings are important for the application of RTLM in a series of newly emerging technologies such as liquid metal based spray cooling, ink-jet printed electronics, interface material painting and coating, metallurgy, and 3D packages, etc.
