Context-Based Recommendation Approach for Measurement and Evaluation Projects  [PDF]
Hernan Molina, Luis Olsina, Gustavo Rossi
Journal of Software Engineering and Applications (JSEA) , 2010, DOI: 10.4236/jsea.2010.312128
Abstract: Data, information and knowledge are recognized as useful assets for analysis, recommendation and decision making at any business level of an organization. Providing the right information for decision making considering different user-requirements, projects and situations is, however, a difficult issue. A frequently-neglected challenge is to cope with the influence of contextual issues affecting the success of outcomes and decisions. Particularly, when conducting quality evaluations in software organizations, it is of paramount importance to identify beforehand the contextual issues affecting outcomes and interpretations for measurement and evaluation projects. Therefore, the relevant context information should be clearly identified, specified and recorded for performing more robust analysis and recommendations. In this work, a domain-independent context model and a mechanism to integrate it to any application domain is presented. The context model is built upon a measurement and evaluation framework enabling quantification and semantic capabilities. The context model is then integrated in the mentioned framework itself to enable recommendations in meas- urement and evaluation projects.

The ART approach: clinical aspects reviewed

Abstract: the success of art as a caries management approach is supported by more than 20 years of scientific evidence. art follows the contemporary concepts of modern cariology and restorative dentistry. it challenges treatment concepts such as step-wise excavation and the need for complete removal of affected dentine. the art approach so far has mainly used high-viscosity glass-ionomer as the sealant and restorative material. cariostatic and remineralization properties have been ascribed to this material which requires further research to establish its clinical relevance. the adhesion of high-viscosity glass-ionomer to enamel in pits and fissures is apparently strong, as its remnants, blocking the pits and fissures, have been considered a possible reason for the low prevalence of carious lesion development after the glass-ionomer has clinically disappeared from it. encapsulated high-viscosity glass-ionomers may lead to higher restoration survival results than those of the hand-mixed version and should, therefore, not be neglected when using art. similarly, the use of resin-modified glass-ionomer with art should be researched. the effectiveness of art when compared to conventional caries management approaches has been shown in numerous studies. proper case selection is an important factor for long-lasting art restoration survival. this is based on the caries risk situation of the individual, the size of the cavity opening, the strategic position of the cavitated tooth and the presence of adequate caries control measures. as the operator is one of the main causes for failure of art restorations, attending a well-conducted art training course is mandatory for successful implementation of art.

Acta Scientiarum : Technology , 2010,
Data collected in Maringá, Paraná State, on the acceptance and consumption of milk and its products were used to delineate the profile of consumption of these products, generating benefits for a better understanding of the consumer market for milk. A total of 300 people answered the survey that assessed the degree of acceptance and frequency of consumption of milk and its products. It was observed that the most important to the consumer at the time of purchase, is the relationship between price and quality of product, and approximately half of respondents (48.17%) prefer whole milk, followed by skimmed milk with 26.20%. However, it was found that 8.73% of respondents reported that do not consume milk, with the majority of cases justified by some level of lactose intolerance. Meanwhile, yogurt and cheese were identified as milk products with a higher percentage of frequency of use and acceptance. Overall, the data collected can conclude that milk and its products are consumed regularly and its products were identified with a high percentage of frequency of use and acceptance.

Abstract:
Micro-Electro-Mechanical-Systems (MEMS) is an emerging technology that integrates micromachined mechanical structures with integrated circuits (IC). During the last two decades, it has grown vastly as a prominent research area among scientists and engineers. Usually the main components of MEMS are sensors, actuators, and structures with all in microscale. A photostrictive mate-rial has high potential to be used in a MEMS application to develop an ad-vanced optical actuator. A strain is induced when a photostrictive material is il-luminated by high intensity light, which is known as photostriction. This phe-nomenon can be generally described as the combined effect of the photovoltaic effect and the converge-piezoelectric effect. When an incident light strikes a photostrictive material, a photovoltage is produced and this photovoltage develops strain in the material. Lanthanum modified lead zirconate titanate (Pb, La) (Zr, Ti) O3 ceramic doped with WO3, called PLZT, is one of the photostrictive ceramics which has an advantageous use as a wireless remote control over traditional actuators. Traditional actuators require wire connections to transmit the control signal; these wires yield noise via external electromagnetic fields. Whereas, PLZT actuators can transmit the control signal without wires which can eliminate possible noise due to the external electromagnetic field. In this current research, the photostrictive effect of a thin PLZT film on a silicon wafer is investigated experimentally. The transverse deflection of the PLZT optical actuator cantilever beam has been measured for stationary continuous light as well as for pulses of light using an optical chopper at various light intensities and focused locations. Results indicate that transverse deflection increases with the increase of light intensity. Also, the maximum transverse deflection at the free end of the cantilever beam for stationary light has been found to be three times larger than that for the pulses of light.
