Revista Brasileira de Economia , 2001, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-71402001000400002
Abstract: in this paper we estimate the parameters of the traditional dynamic labor demand model. we base our empirical analysis on information provided by a monthly survey for the brazilian manufacturing sector (pim/ibge) for the period 1985-1999. since non-stationarity evidence was found, we also estimate cointegration relations and the corresponding vector error correction models (vecm). this estimation incorporates the restrictions imposed by euler equations of quadratic linear models as shown in dolado et al. (1991). estimated values for product elasticity, in the short run, vary from 0,025 to 0,037 according to the specification. estimated values for wage elasticity, in the short run, vary from 0 to -0,026. in the long run, the estimation range for both parameters is much wider, depending on the specification used.

Acta Botanica Brasilica , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-33062009000200027
Abstract: temperature and photoperiod are abiotic variables that directly influence aquatic macrophyte production. they also determine the geographic distribution of the species and affect community structure. the aim of this study was to evaluate the growth of pistia stratiotes in different temperature and photoperiod regimes. p. stratiotes plants were conditioned in growth chambers with controlled temperature and photoperiod. six treatments were used: 1 (15 oc/8 h photoperiod); 2 (15 oc/12 h); 3 (25 oc/8 h); 4 (25 oc/12 h); 5 (30 oc/8 h) and 6 (30 oc/12 h). the highest biomass gain occurred with treatment number 4 which showed significant differences (p<0.05) compared to treatments number 1, 5 and 6. in treatments 1, 5 and 6 the final biomass was lower than the initial biomass of p. stratiotes. the greatest biomass reduction occurred in treatment number 6 which was significantly lower than in treatments 2, 3 and 4. the highest sprout production was observed in treatments at 25 oc, while in treatments at 15 oc and 30 oc sprouting was greatly reduced. we conclude that temperature and photoperiod influence p. stratiotes growth and higher growth rates occurred at 25 oc and 12-hour photoperiod.
Biologia de Dichomeris famulata Meyrick, 1914 (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) em milho
Marques, Luiz Henrique da Silva Fagundes;Nakano, Octavio;Janeiro, Vanderly;Girardi, Eduardo Augusto;Bueno, Gustavo Gonzaga;
Ciência Rural , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-84782011000100017
Abstract: the caterpillar dichomeris famulata meyrick, 1914 (lepidoptera: gelechiidae) is a new pest of corn ear in brazil, and its study is important in seed fields. the aim of this was to study the biology of this pest under laboratory conditions (25±2°c, 65±10% of rh and 14-hours of photophase). the biological cycle (egg-adult) was of 35.2 days. the incubation period was of 4.1 days. the average larval development time was of 21.1 days, and 5 instars were observed. the pupal period was of 8.4 days and the pupae weight was of 12.4 and 11.3 mg for males and females, respectively. the females laid an average of 118 eggs with a pre-oviposition period of 10.7 days and an oviposition time of 14.0 days. the mean longevity of males and females was of 37.02 and 44.16 days, respectively, and sex ratio was of 0.48. the caterpillars damage the silks and grains at the milk stage through little entry orifices, damaging the endosperm and, more importantly, the embryo, reducing the seed germination. these results can support the establishment of strategies to manage this new corn ear pest, especially in seed fields.
Some Deviations of Form: A Little Essay on Psychoanalysis, Art and Aesthetics  [PDF]
Gustavo Henrique Dionisio
Creative Education (CE) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ce.2014.519196
Abstract: This work intends to investigate the use of psychoanalytical theory within the aesthetic and critical contemporary art field. To this purpose, it focuses on two philosophers who have become significant in our time: the art critic Hal Foster and the art historian Georges Didi-Huberman. This study aims to show how far the concepts generated in psychoanalytic praxis allowed interpretations that disrupt the traditional aesthetics field. This type of analysis is possible once we abandon the paradigm of “applied psychoanalysis”, which is still current in non-clinical setting. Finally, the proposal wants to argue that the category of the amorphous may clarify certain aesthetic experiences that range from the modernity of art through postmodernity.
Aquatic systems in semi-arid Brazil: limnology and management
Barbosa, José Etham de Lucena;Medeiros, Elvio Sérgio Figueredo;Brasil, Jandeson;Cordeiro, Raquel da Silva;Crispim, Maria Cristina Basilio;Silva, Gustavo Henrique Gonzaga da;
Acta Limnologica Brasiliensia , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S2179-975X2012005000030
Abstract: aquatic systems in semi-arid brazil include natural shallow lakes, artificial reservoirs and intermittent streams and rivers. these systems are distinctive features in the semi-arid landscape and comprise a range of associated systems functioning as an ever-changing mosaic of dry/wet patches. lakes and reservoirs in semi-arid brazil are subject to important periods of water shortages, whereas rivers and streams are characterized as highly variable and driven by the extremes of water flow and its absence. within this view a catchment-scale approach must be used to create a holistic model to conceptualize and comprehend these aquatic systems, since the aquatic environment types in the semi-arid region of brazil incorporate broader aspects within the catchment scale such as geomorphology, vegetation, climate and land use. this paper summarizes some of the information on the aquatic systems of the brazilian semi-arid region and shows the importance of limnological studies in this region. it also attempts to establish perspectives for future research considering the catchment as a scale for surveying biological processes and limnological characteristics of the various aquatic systems. it is presented information on their overall structure and functioning, as well as characteristics of some biological communities, such as phytoplankton, periphyton, aquatic macrophytes, benthic invertebrates and fish. the importance of the understanding of eutrophication in reservoirs and the role of the dry phase in streams is emphasized, and information on possible actions of planning and management to improve water quality of reservoirs are presented.
A partilha do trabalho e a demanda dinamica por trabalhadores e horas
Pereira, Rodrigo;Gonzaga, Gustavo;
Revista Brasileira de Economia , 2001, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-71402001000100001
Abstract: this paper investigates whether a reduction in standard hours has a positive impact on the employment level, an effect known in the literature as work-sharing. the innovation here is to include employment adjustment costs in the theoretical model. this feature introduces interesting dynamic aspects, which make it possible to study optimal paths of employment and average hours both in the short and the long run. the main result is that work-sharing does not occur even in the presence of employment adjustment costs.
O impacto dos fatores familiares sobre a defasagem idade-série de crian?as no Brasil
Machado, Danielle Carusi;Gonzaga, Gustavo;
Revista Brasileira de Economia , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-71402007000400002
Abstract: we study the impacts of family income and parental education on the probability of children's schooling delay using the 1996 pnad. with the adoption of some hypotheses about the links between generations of children, parents and grandparents, we control for the existence of non observable factors that simultaneously affect the income formation of parents and decisions concerning children schooling (simultaneity bias) or that are transmitted from one generation to another (hereditary bias). we work with three instruments: number of schools by the time parents were children; family factor changes across generations (parents/grandparents); and the 1971 change of the educational system.
Oferta de trabalho e ciclo econ?mico: os efeitos trabalhador adicional e desalento no Brasil
Gonzaga, Gustavo;Reis, Mauricio Cortez;
Revista Brasileira de Economia , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-71402011000200002
Abstract: the discouragement effect was introduced by long (1953). according to this effect, unemployed workers choose to leave the workforce during recessions, when expected wages and the likelihood of getting a job are lower. the added worker effect acts in the opposite direction. reductions in household income during recessions could induce other members of the family to enter the labor market in order to maintain the level of consumption unchanged. the added worker effect has been estimated through the temporary entry of married women - whose husbands become unemployed - into the workforce. in this paper, we investigate empirically how the added worker and discouragement effects influence the labor participation rate in brazil, using data from the pme. the added worker effect is represented by the difference in the probability of participation between wives whose husbands lost their jobs and wives whose husbands remained employed. the discouragement effect is estimated by the impact of changes in macroeconomic cycles, which are represented by deviations of the average labor earnings in each period from a given reference value, on participation. the results show that both effects play a role in determining the labor participation rate in brazil.
