Andrade, Guilherme Cabral de;Braga, Fernando Menezes;
Arquivos de Neuro-Psiquiatria , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0004-282X2002000400030
Abstract: the per operative rupture of the aneurysm during dissection impairs the delicate microsurgical procedure and increases the risk of a bad evolution for the patient. during operation the aneurysm generally ruptures in its belly but it could happen just in its colon, between the main vessel and the sac. this brings a serious problem to the neurosurgeon once the placement of a clip at this place will increase the bleeding. our technical suggestion is to perform the clipage over a small piece of temporal muscle gently placed over the hole of bleeding after temporary clipage. this is a very simple procedure but very useful that must be reminded in such cases. we did not found a similar description in the main books and articles related with intraoperative aneurysm rupture.

Abstract: the intracranial aneurysms of the posterior circulation have been reported between 5 and 10% of all cerebral aneurysms and the aneurysms of the anterior inferior cerebellar artery (aica) are considered rare, can cause cerebello pontine angle (cpa) syndrome with or without subarachnoid hemorrhage. since 1948 few cases were described in the literature. we report on a 33 year-old female patient with subarachnoid hemorrhage due to sacular aneurysm of the left aica. she was submitted to clipage of the aneurysm without complications.
Cavernoma gigante: relato de dois casos

Abstract: cavernous angiomas or haemangiomas or yet cavernomas are malformations of the central nervous system classified as occult vascular brain lesions. these rare lesions are clinically silent. they are defined by the presence of abnormally large vascular cavities or sinusoids channels of variable size, with sharp walls, located inside but not invading the brain parenchyma. they can occur at any age, including the neonatal period. most of the small lesions are located inside the brain parenchyma. no abnormal circulation can be demonstrated in angiography and ct scan can be helpful for diagnosis only in rare occasions. magnetic resonance is the best exam to demonstrate the lesion. despite the benign character some lesions may cause neurologic dysfunction when their removal may be difficult. complete extirpation is the best treatment if the lesion is favorable located and is causing neurological dysfunction. two cases of giant cavernomas with good outcome after total removal are present. only three cases of giant cavernomas were reported in the literature.

Abstract: The aim of this study was to identify the discriminant effect of morphology and range of attack-related variables on the performance level of under-17 female volleyball players. The sample consisted of young volleyball players (n=40) divided into two groups: players of the Brazilian national team (n=21) aged 15.86 ± 0.36 years, body weight of 68.11 ± 8.73 kg, and height of 181.61 ± 6.11 cm, and players of the state team of Rio Grande do Norte (n=19) aged 15.16 ± 0.88 years, body weight of 60.54 ± 7.60 kg, and height of 170.52 ± 7.97 cm. The somatotype was assessed using the Heath & Carter method. A modified Sargent test was used to assess vertical jump height and maximum attack height. The measures were compared between the two groups using the Student t-test for independent samples. Discriminant function analysis was applied to predict group allocation using the measures obtained as independent variables. The two groups differed significantly in terms of body weight, fat mass, height, maximum attack height, range of attack, and somatotype. Discriminant function analysis identified the somato-type measures (endomorphy, ectomorphy, and mesomorphy) with correlation coefficients below 0.30. The canonical correlation coefficient obtained with this function was 0.856. In conclusion, somatotype or vertical jump ability does not seem to distinguish elite athletes from non-elite athletes in under-17 female volleyball players, and height is the main morphological determinant to achieve elite level performance.

Abstract: non-melanoma skin cancers are the most common malignant neoplasms in humans. about 95% of all non-melanoma skin cancers are represented by basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. their prevalences are still increasing worldwide, representing an important public health problem. the genetic alterations underlying basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma development are only partly understood. much interest lies in determining the genetic basis of non-melanoma skin cancers, to explain their distinctive phenotypes, biological behaviors and metastatic potential. we present here a molecular genetic update, focusing on the most frequent genes and genomic instability involved in the development and progression of non-melanoma skin cancers.
