Numerical Simulation of Dual Laterolog Response in Directional Wells and Development of Correction Plate  [PDF]

Abstract: Since the dual laterolog response is affected by various environmental factors, the instrument response is difficult to reflect the true resistivity of the formation. Plate correction is a common method of resistivity logging environmental correction. Three-dimensional layered media model was established, and the dual laterolog response in directional wells was simulated by three-dimensional finite element method. The influence of environmental factors such as wellbore, well deviation, surrounding rock and mud intrusion on the response of dual laterolog is analyzed emphatically. Therefore, the environmental factors correction plate with different well deviations is constructed, and the plates can be used to guide the dual laterolog environment correction work for better reservoir identification and oil and gas evaluation.
Enhanced Antitumor Effects of Adenoviral-Mediated siRNA against GRP78 Gene on Adenosine-Induced Apoptosis in Human Hepatoma HepG2 Cells

Abstract: Our previous studies show that adenosine-induced apoptosis is involved in endoplasmic reticulum stress in HepG2 cells. In this study, we have investigated whether knockdown of GRP78 by short hairpin RNA (shRNA) increases the cytotoxic effects of adenosine in HepG2 cells. The adenovirus vector-delivered shRNA targeting GRP78 (Ad-shGRP78) was constructed and transfected into HepG2 cells. RT-PCR assay was used to determine RNA interference efficiency. Effects of knockdown of GRP78 on adenosine-induced cell viabilities, cell-cycle distribution and apoptosis, as well as relative protein expressions were determined by flow cytometry and/or Western blot analysis. The intracellular Ca 2+ concentration was detected by laser scanning confocal microscope. Mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨm) was measured by a fluorospectrophotometer. The results revealed that GRP78 mRNA was significantly downregulated by Ad-shGRP78 transfection. Knockdown of GRP78 enhanced HepG2 cell sensitivity to adenosine by modulating G0/G1 arrest and stimulating Bax, Bak, m-calpain, caspase-4 and CHOP protein levels. Knockdown of GRP78 worsened cytosolic Ca 2+ overload and ΔΨm loss. Knockdown of caspase-4 by shRNA decreased caspase-3 mRNA expression and cell apoptosis. These findings indicate that GRP 78 plays a protective role in ER stress-induced apoptosis and show that the combination of chemotherapy drug and RNA interference adenoviruses provides a new treatment strategy against malignant tumors.

Abstract: We report the observation of tunable spin-orbit coupling (SOC) for ultracold $^{87}$Rb atoms in hyperfine spin-1 states. Different from most earlier experiments where atomic SOC of pseudo-spin-1/2 are synthesized with Raman coupling lasers, the scheme we demonstrate employs a gradient magnetic field (GMF) with ground state atoms and is immune to atomic spontaneous emission. The effect of the SOC is confirmed through the studies of: 1) the collective dipole oscillation of an atomic condensate in a harmonic trap after the synthesized SOC is abruptly turned on; and 2) the minimum energy state at a finite adiabatically adjusted momentum when the SOC strength is slowly ramped up. The coherence properties of the spinor condensates remain very good after interacting with modulating GMFs, which prompts the enthusiastic claim that our work provides a new repertoire for synthesized gauge fields aimed at quantum simulation studies with cold atoms.
Rapid detection of pneumothorax by ultrasonography in patients with multiple trauma

Abstract: Over a 14 month period, patients with multiple trauma treated in the emergency department were enrolled in this prospective study. Bedside US was performed by emergency department clinicians in charge of the patients. Portable supine chest radiography (CXR) and computed tomography (CT) were obtained within an interval of three hours. Using CT and chest drain as the gold standard, the diagnostic efficacy of US and CXR for the detection of pneumothorax, defined as rapidity and accuracy (sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value), were compared. The size of the pneumothorax (small, medium and large) determined by US was also compared to that determined by CT.Of 135 patients (injury severity score = 29.1 ± 12.4) included in the study, 83 received mechanical ventilation. The time needed for diagnosis of pneumothorax was significantly shorter with US compared to CXR (2.3 ± 2.9 versus 19.9 ± 10.3 minutes, p < 0.001). CT and chest drain confirmed 29 cases of pneumothorax (21.5%). The diagnostic sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values and accuracy for US and radiography were 86.2% versus 27.6% (p < 0.001), 97.2% versus 100% (not significant), 89.3% versus 100% (not significant), 96.3% versus 83.5% (p = 0.002), and 94.8% versus 84.4% (p = 0.005), respectively. US was highly consistent with CT in determining the size of pneumothorax (Kappa = 0.669, p < 0.001).Bedside clinician-performed US provides a reliable tool and has the advantages of being simple and rapid and having higher sensitivity and accuracy compared to chest radiography for the detection of pneumothorax in patients with multiple trauma.Pneumothorax is a common finding in the trauma setting and affects more than 20% of major blunt trauma victims [1]. Abstract: We used 4 methods,such as ultrasonic crush(UC),ultrasonic rinse(UR),whorl surge(WS)and rubbing(RU),to isolate epiphytic bacteria from red alga Gracilaria lemaneiformis.Then,we counted bacteria numbers,detected bacterial species,observed bacterial configuration and characteristic of cell wall.Compared with these methods and with different treatments in one method,the results were drawn:the UR and RU were inferior in all methods to isolate bacterial numbers and species,the UC and WS were better,especially,the treatment 30W 30s of UC was the best in experiment,which isolated 12 of 16 bacterial species,and got 1.75 10~6 cells per gram wet weight G.lemaneiformis.

Further Control on the Grave Interference in Mobile Ambient

Abstract: In order to control the grave interference in mobile ambient (MA), Levi et al. proposed mobile safe ambients (SA). However, the coactions introduced in SA brought new security breaches. In this paper, robust ambients (ROAM) is proposed to eliminate those security breaches. In ROAM, coactions are still utilized to control the grave interference. In addition, the parameter of every coaction is explicitly specified to name the consumer of that coaction. This mechanism effectively eliminates the security breaches in SA. The firewall crossing example and the encoding of polyadic asynchronous p-calculus in ROAM show that ROAM still keeps the strong expressiveness of its ancestors. A fundamental type system for ROAM with both thread count and mobility attributes is also proposed and proved. The result in this paper shows that ROAM is a good candidate in the formalization of mobile computation.

Abstract: In this paper, an enhanced algorithm is proposed for page clustering, which considers both the content of web pages and the site topology. By introducing the content-link ratio and the group inter-link degree and modifying the computation of the support of frequently visited page group, the algorithm can increase theinterestingness of the mining result. The experimental results show that the algorithm converges more rapidly and could find out more interesting page groups than the normal algorithm.

Abstract: Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are classified as Class 4 agents by the Association of Racing Commissioners International and are banned in racehorses during competition in Pennsylvania (PA). To control the abuse of these agents in racehorses competing in PA, a forensic method for screening and confirmation of the presence of these agents is needed. Equine plasma (0.5 mL) was acidified with 75 μL 1M H3PO4 to increase recovery of the analytes by liquid-liquid extraction using methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE). Extracted analytes were separated by reversed-phase liquid chromatography using a C8 column under gradient condition. All 16 analytes were detected, quantified and confirmed using a triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometry with selected reaction monitoring (SRM) in both negative and positive electrospray ionization modes. The limit of detection, quantification and confirmation of the analytes were 1.0 - 5.0 ng/mL, 1.0 - 5.0 ng/mL and 1.0 - 20 ng/mL, respectively. The linear dynamic range of quantification was 5.0 - 200 ng/mL. The method is routinely used in anti-doping analysis to control the abuse of NSAIDs in racehorses competing in PA.
