The Effects of a Single Bout of Exercise on Mood and Self-Esteem in Clinically Diagnosed Mental Health Patients  [PDF]

Abstract: Objectives: Research has highlighted the importance of regular exercise within the general population and mental health groups in regard to mood and self-esteem, as well as single bout exercise within the general population. However, research into single bout exercise in mental health population is lacking. This study investigated the impact of a single bout of exercise, on mood and self-esteem, in patients with a wider clinical mental health diagnosis. Design: A quantitative questionnaire was completed immediately pre and post a single, 45 minute bout of moderate intensity exercise, consisting of the Brunel Universal Mood States (BRUMS) questionnaire and the Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale (RSE). Methods: Participants attending a mental health hospital with a clinical mental health diagnosis (N = 54) completed the questionnaire. Information regarding physical activity levels, mental health diagnosis and length of hospital stay were collated. Results: A significant improvement was identified on the RSE as well as the BRUMS (depression, anger, confusion, anxious tension and vigour) over time. Conclusion: The significant findings highlight the importance of exercise promotion within this population group, and the potentially beneficial role that a single bout of exercise can have on mood and self-esteem in patients experiencing mental health problems.

A Cinematic Lens on Talent Development in Piano Prodigies: Considerations for Positive Psychology  [PDF]

Abstract:

This article examines talent development in piano prodigies through a case study of the life of Australian pianist David Helfgott as depicted in the film Shine. Utilizing theory from positive psychology, especially Csikszentmihalyi’s flow theory of motivation and optimal experience, and his sociocultural systems model of creativity, Helfgott’s development as a musical prodigy, his subsequent psychological challenges, and his ultimate psychological resilience are detailed. This case of Helfgott serves as a cinematic lens through which to explore optimal talent development more broadly. Thus, this article also makes refer- ence to other cinematic depictions of prodigies, as well as to autobiographical and biographical source materials from other talented musicians. Implications for the optimal development of talented musicians are discussed.

Experimental Examination of Fluid Flow in Fractured Carbon Storage Sealing Formations  [PDF]

Abstract:

This report describes a series of experiments where CO2-saturated-brine flow through fractured seal rocks from three sites within the continental United States that are being considered, or are actively being used, for CCUS pilot studies were examined. The experiments were performed over multiple weeks by injecting CO2 saturated brine through fractured samples, and were scanned with a computed tomography scanner at regular intervals over the course of the experiment while kept at representative reservoir pressures. The goal was to evaluate the change in the fracture flow that would result from a CO2 leakage event so that accurate relationships can be implemented in numerical models to assess risk. Of the three different formations studied in this series of fractured seal formation CO2-saturated-brine flow through experiments, only one formation had a reaction that was greater than the noise in the system. Reactions within the Tuscaloosa claystone sample appeared to reduce the transmissivity of the fracture slightly over the 39 day experiment. The change in the geometry of the fracture was not great enough to view with the medical CT images that were captured during the experiment. All other tests showed a minimal amount of change in the fracture and fracture flow properties.

Abstract: There is an alternate cause for the decay rate defined by Edwin Hubble’s Cosmological Constant Theory. It can be proposed because inward motion is observed in the local Galaxies||Star groups around the Milky Way. The recession velocity of Galaxies farther out of is reasoned entirely from the increasing redshift in the frequency. The smaller the image of observed Galaxy/Cluster objects, the greater the downward shift in frequency of all Electro-Magnetic signals [EM]. An alternate cause for that downward shift could be through the absorption and re-emission through matter, leading to the absorption of some fraction of the energy quanta. There is nowhere in our Local Universe that is both absolutely devoid of matter and the continual formation of objects of all scales. If redshift was because of space expansion, it would increase the distance that signal had to travel. So a signal from GN-z11 stellar structure at 13.4 billion light years [LY] would take 13.4 billion years to travel. Assuming 13.8 billion years since the Big Bang would mean GN-z11 object travelled 13.4 billion LY in 400 million years. A current value for the Hubble constant is: H0=(67.8 ± 0.77) km s -1 Mpc -1 ?a frequency is shift of 67.8/c over a single Mpc. An alternate expression would be a shift factor 2.261560E-5 over a distance of 3.08567E22 m or a redshift of 7.32923E-28 over a metre because of passage through a medium. Dark matter is a currently accepted phenomenon. It is proposed that properties include redshift’s all normal matters that are put upon EM||Boson signals at the fraction stated above. The signal reduction|| frequency distortion happens at a quantum level for each occurrence, and so is not detectable until passage through millions of LY of Dark Matter. Support for this alternate supposition is reasoned from the fact that the M31 Galaxy and the NGC 300 Galaxy are at distances inconsistent with their Hubble recession velocity.

Abstract: There are parallels between the time distortion equations of General and Special Relativity. The time distortion in Special Relativity limits the “Real” velocity of a particle to the speed of light |c| by slowing the velocity of bosons/energy and increasing the mass of fermion||lepton (or matter) particles. In General Relativity, the gravitational slowdown of bosons/gravitons limits the escape velocity |v Esc| to light speed. |v Esc = (2GM/r)0.5| can also be written as |v Esc2 = 2GM/r|. So an alternate grammar for the equation could be

The above contests currently held properties of Schwarzschild Objects. Relativistic theory predicts the slowdown of gravitons/bosons, while their velocity only approaches zero. The different mathe-matical logic of Gravitational Force ||GF|| GF = GMm/r2 would mean no limit on the force. Matter formed through compression of bosons can escape after formation by absorbing kinetic energy from the slowing photons/bosons in its surroundings. So matter formation can occur via a steady-state mechanism. The limit on v Esc allows matter to escape in events that parallel both the Big Bang and Cyclic cosmology. Additional arguments are made as to the validity of relativity.
The Relativistic Space-Time Perspective  [PDF]

Abstract: Equations developed in this paper show the relationship between Real values measured from a Special Relativity Perspective with no Distortion [noSRPD] and the values measured from the same perspective when those values are distorted. Inverse equations using the values measured from distorted perspective [SRPD] are also reasoned. Equation logic proceeds from the original Real Time distortion equations from Einstein’s On the Electrodynamics of Moving Bodies. An alternate Time equation using the distorted velocity measured from a Relativistic Perspective is presented. Since the time distortion range is unlimited, velocity from a Relativistic Perspective can have an infinite value. Eight additional formulas for velocity, mass, time, and linear deformations are reasoned. Relativistic Perspective equations have confirmed consistency with Classic Relativity equations to 2000 significant digits for 37 velocity values ranging from 1.0E500 m/s to (c (1.0E500) m/s.

Abstract: This paper investigates the integration of virtues into teaching programs for allied health students. It explores the notion that practitioners’ effectiveness is enhanced when they practice virtues along with their technical expertise. These virtues include wisdom and love and they imbue the practitioner’s role with a meaning that extends beyond efficient diagnosis and competent case management. Practicing virtues can deepen the clinical relationship. Allied health students may feel cautious and uncertain about what it actually means to be a virtuous practitioner. Reflexive practice and dialogic encounters are presented as teaching activities that can cultivate virtuous practice.
Agreement between a self-administered questionnaire on musculoskeletal disorders of the neck-shoulder region and a physical examination

Abstract: This study was conducted among clerical workers using video display units. Prevalent cases were workers for whom neck-shoulder symptoms were present for at least 3 days during the previous 7 days and for whom pain intensity was greater than 50 mm on a 100 mm visual analogue scale. All 85 workers meeting this definition and a random sample of 102 workers who did not meet this definition were selected. Physical examination included measures of active range of motion and musculoskeletal strength. Cohen's kappa and global percent agreement were calculated to compare the two methods of data collection. The effect on the agreement of different question and physical examination definitions and the importance of the time interval elapsed between the administrations of the tests were also evaluated.Kappa coefficients ranged from 0.19 to 0.54 depending on the definitions used to ascertain disorders. The agreement was highest when the two instruments were administered 21 days apart or less (Kappa = 0.54, global agreement = 77%). It was not substantially improved by the addition of criteria related to functional limitations or when comparisons were made with alternative physical examination definitions. Pain intensity recorded during physical examination maneuvers was an important element of the agreement between questionnaire and physical examination findings.These results suggest a fair to good agreement between the presence of musculoskeletal disorders ascertained by self-administered questionnaire and physical examination that may reflect differences in the constructs measured. Shorter time lags result in better agreement. Investigators should consider these results before choosing a method to measure the presence of musculoskeletal disorders in the neck-shoulder region.Musculoskeletal disorders are among the principal causes of activity limitation and long term disability [1-3]. Abstract: Depression has been determined to be the leading cause of disability and the 4th leading contributor to the global burden of disease and is characterized by relapse, recurrence and chronicity (WHO, 2007). A systematic review of several meta-analyses on treatment outcome supports the view that Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an effective treatment (Butler et al., 2006). However, CBT is not a single intervention, but has evolved from various theoretical perspectives, resulting in different theoretically congruent treatment techniques for depression. It is therefore important to understand which treatment approaches may be the most effective. This review provides an analysis of the evidence base comparing CBT with Behavioural Activation (Martell et al., 2010). 3rd wave approaches and the Six Cycles Maintenance & Treatment Model (Moorey, 2010) are presented in the context of how they can add to the effective treatment of depression.
