Abstract: context and objective: the diagnosis of repetitive strain injury (rsi) is subjective and solely based on clinical signs and physical examination. the aim of this paper was to assess the usefulness of three-phase bone scintigraphy (tpbs) in diagnosing rsi. design and setting: prospective study at the division of nuclear medicine, department of radiology, school of medical sciences, universidade estadual de campinas (unicamp). methods: seventy-three patients (mean age 31.2 years; 47 males) with clinical suspicion of rsi in the upper limbs were studied. a total of 127 joints with suspicion of rsi were studied. the shoulders, elbows and wrists were analyzed semi-quantitatively, using the shafts of the humeri and ulnae as references. the results were compared with a control group of 40 normal individuals. the patients? signs and symptoms were used as the "gold standard" for calculating the probabilities. results: from visual analysis, abnormalities were observed in the flow phase for four joints, in the blood pool phase for 11 joints and in the delayed images for 26 joints. visual analysis of the joints of the control group did not show any abnormalities. semi-quantitative analysis showed that most of the patients? joint ratios were normal. the exceptions were the wrists of patients with left-sided rsi (p = 0.0216). however, the sensitivity (9%) and accuracy (41%) were very low. conclusion: tpbs with semi-quantitative analysis has very low sensitivity and accuracy in the detection of rsi abnormalities in the upper limbs.

Revista Brasileira de Educa??o Especial , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-65382007000300004
Abstract: the teaching of academic skills to individuals with autism has received little attention from research literature, probably because the classical deficits in communication, reciprocal social interaction and behaviors are seen as priorities in scientific investigations. nevertheless, the development of technologies for teaching academic skills to this population is necessary, mainly in the context of brazilian school inclusion. people with autism are being included with greater frequency in regular classes and, consequently, need adequate strategies to learn academic contents for their entrance, permanence and progress in the schools. many studies describe characteristics and difficulties that people with autism have, which can influence the way they learn. these variables need to be considered when planning appropriate teaching strategies for this population. among these variables are the ways in which these individuals respond to environmental stimuli, the way they think and their typical behaviors. this study describes strategies for teaching addition and subtraction to an adolescent with autism. these teaching procedures were elaborated based on the general characteristics of autism, principles derived from applied behavior analysis, and the repertoire of the participant. the results show gradual learning of the taught skills.

Abstract: Peixes s o freqüentemente expostos a episódios de hipóxia ambiental e fisiológica, e usualmente produzem níveis elevados de espécies reativas de oxigênio. Fish are usually exposed to episodes of environmental and physiological hypoxia, and are likely to produce elevated levels of reactive oxygen species. Therefore, silver catfish (Rhamdia quelen) juveniles were exposed to different dissolved oxygen levels (severe hypoxia: 1.96 ± 0.08, moderate hypoxia: 3.10 ± 0.10 and normoxia: 6.15 ± 0.03 mg.L-1) for 30 days to verify if these conditions may induce any oxidative stress in the liver and muscle of this species. The levels of lipid peroxidation and superoxide dismutase activity in liver and muscle were higher in fish exposed to severe and moderate hypoxia than in those exposed to normoxia. This result suggests that low dissolved oxygen levels in the water lead to lipid peroxidation, but at the same time there is an increase of superoxide dismutase activity, maintaining the oxidative equilibrium. KEY WORDS: Anti-oxidant enzymes, free radicals, hypoxia, normoxia.
The Recognition of the Asymmetry: Sticky Costs and Cognitive Biases  [PDF]
Nicola Dalla Via
Open Journal of Accounting (OJAcct) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/ojacct.2018.72011
Abstract:
This paper investigates whether individuals are accurate in recognizing and predicting cost stickiness under different presentation formats. In particular, I conduct an experiment manipulating the degree of cost asymmetry (nonsticky, semisticky, sticky), which is the cost behavior when revenues increase or decrease, and the presentation of financial information (monetary amounts vs. percentages). Contrary to the expectation, participants are more likely to recognize and predict accurately sticky costs rather than nonsticky costs (i.e. cost symmetry). They mentally apply a sticky model also to predict changes of nonsticky costs. Moreover, the presentation of variations expressed as percentages allows more accurate forecasts. Further, a significant interaction effect between the two manipulations is found. The cognitive ability and the cognitive style of the participants are measured in order to disentangle possible confounding effects. The findings of this study suggest that the mental models of the individuals and their cognitive biases influence cost forecasts and adjustments decisions.

The study was conducted to evaluate the effect of supplemental Arginine (Arg) on the humoral immune response and development oflymphoid organs of broiler chickens vaccinated against Gumboro disease. Six hundred and forty broilers were reared in a complete randomized design with four treatments (1. Control, 2. Immunization, 3. Immunization and supplementation of L-Arg, and 4. Supplemental L-Arg.) and eight replications of 20 birds each. Birds in treatments 3 and 4 were vaccinated at 16 days against Gumboro disease (intermediate plus strain). Serum samples from birds at 14, 21, 28 and 35 days old were analyzed by ELISA for detection of antibody titers against Gumboro disease, and at these same ages, lymphoid organ weight was determined and the height of the primary folds of lymphoid tissue in the cloacal bursa was measured. There was no significant difference (p > 0.05) among treatments. Arg supplementation did not improve the immune response of broilers immunized against Gumboro Disease. The lack of response to immunization may be attributed to the low virulence of the vaccine strain used and the presence of environmental virus.

Díaz,Graciella; de la Vega,R;
Revista de Salud Animal , 2007,
Abstract: an important subject of parasite biology is the influence of host on biological parameters. the work was carried out with two groups of engorged anocentor nitens ticks, one of them fed on bovines ( 93 ticks) and the other on equines (99 ticks). the ticks were weighed in an analytical balance. each group was divided in eight subgroups (10 to 12 ticks per subgroup) and incubated at two temperatures, 26 °c and 32°c and four relative humidities, 100, 80, 75.5 and 70 %. in each subgroup, laying efficiency (total egg mass weight/female weight, in percentage) and pre-eclosion period (from the beginning of incubation to the eclosion of the first larvae) were studied. the layer efficiency of the two main groups was compared by a three factor variance analysis, being the factors temperature, relative humidity and host species. a similar test was carried out to compare pre-eclosion. duncan test was employed for multiple mean comparisons in both variables. the host species had an influence on the weight of engorgement and on the laying efficiency. pre-eclosion was not afected by the host.

Abstract: This research aims to build a model for performance evaluation of the implementation phase of a technology park, through the multicriteria methodology for constructivist decision aid (MCDA-C). This is a survey based on the constructivist paradigm, in a form of case study, of an exploratory nature, with qualitative and quantitative approach. For data collection, interview techniques, direct observation and review documents were used. As results the model enabled: i) identify four Areas of Concern, sixteen Fundamental Points of ViewFPVs and seventy-one descriptors (performance indicators) that integrate the evaluation model; ii) demonstrate the performance profile of the current situation (statusquo) of the Technology Park implementation process, which resulted in 62 points; iii) explain a structured process for the identification of strengths and opportunities for performance improvement. Thus, the research generated knowledge regarding the Technology Park implementation process and the evaluation model is a tool to support the management in decision-making activities.
