Abstract: this work aimed to evaluate the effect of phosphorus fertilization on nodulation, litter deposition and root system development of m. caesalpiniifolia benth, before and after pruning, at the itambé experimental station of pernambuco agronomical institute - ipa in pernambuco, brazil. treatments were levels of phosphorus fertilization (0, 100 and 200 kg.ha-1 of p2o5) arranged in a randomized block design with six replicates in block i and seven in block ii, with the criterion for block formation being uniformization cut date. samplings were taken before and after pruning of the aerial part root length and root, nodule and litter dry matter had similar results before and after pruning. nodule numbers before pruning were 2, 15 and 6 for 0, 100 and 200 kg.ha-1 of p2o5, respectively, and 1, 6 and 7 after pruning. average root lengths ranged from 552 to 734 cm before and from 389 to 455 cm after pruning. the number of nodules presented variation only from august to november 2005, with values from 2 to 15 and from 1 to 7 nodules, before and after pruning, respectively.

Abstract: systemic complications are frequent in subarachnoid hemorrhage patients. among these complications, electrocardiographic abnormalities simulating ischemic cardiomyopathy may occur, possibly associated with myocardial dysfunction. this manuscript aims to report a case of subarachnoid hemorrhage associated with myocardial dysfunction and cardiogenic shock. a 45 years old woman was admitted with subarachnoid hemorrhage and coma, showing glasgow scale = 7, hunt-hess = 5 and fischer computed tomography classification = 3. on the second day, the patient underwent anterior cerebral communicant artery aneurysm embolization. the clinical evaluation revealed diffuse pulmonary infiltration, dyspnea and hypotension. additional tests showed electrocardiographic lateral wall repolarization changes and elevated creatine kinase-mb fraction (36u/l). the cardiac index was 2.03 l/minute/m2, vascular systemic resistance was 3728 dynes.sec/cm2. the non-responsiveness to volume demonstrated a cardiogenic shock pattern. the ventricular ejection fraction was 39%. the coronariography was normal, showing no obstructive lesions. six days later the patient was removed from respiratory support and after eight days the dobutamine infusion was discontinued. the ejection fraction recovered up to 65%. serial transcranial doppler evaluations did not show vascular spasm. after ten days the patient was discharged from the intensive care unit. patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage may be complicated with ventricular dysfunction and cardiogenic shock, increasing the cerebral ischemia risk. diagnosis optimization and hemodynamic stabilization are essential to minimize the risk of cerebral vasospasm and ischemia.

Abstract: the sector of business tourism is growing and its importance has been increased all over the world. in brazil, as the activity of tourism in the general sense, business tourism has not received much attention until now and the management of marketing is not so structured yet; additionally, some companies have exercised its practice based on the experience of tourism managers and on successful initiatives, without a profounder study about causes and effects. this study presents the concepts of marketing of services stated by several authors and the ways of applying them in the practice. some interviewees have been carried out with approaches of agencies / operators of business travel and some of their clients, in order to identify the critical factors of success in the business tourism.
Effects of low-dose ionising radiation on pituitary adenoma: is there a role for L-type calcium channel?
Soares, Marcella Araugio;Santos, Raquel Gouvêa dos;
Brazilian Archives of Biology and Technology , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-89132005000700028
Abstract: pituitary adenomas constitute about 6-18% of brain tumours in adults. activation of voltage gated calcium currents can account for growth hormone oversecretion in some gh-secreting pituitary adenomas that produce an acromegaly appearance and increase mortality. ca2+ ions, as mediators of intracellular signalling, are crucial for the development of apoptosis. however, the role of [ca2+] in the development of apoptosis is ambiguous. in this study, the effects of low-dose ionising gamma radiation (60co) on rat pituitary adenoma cells survival and proliferation and the role of calcium channels on the apoptosis radio-induced were evaluated. doses as low as 3 gy were found to inhibit gh3 cell proliferation. even though there was a significant number of live cells,168 hours following irradiation, they were not able to proliferate. the results indicate that the blockade of extracellular calcium influx through these channels does not interfere in the radiation-induced apoptosis in gh3 cells.
Aspectos estratégicos e econ?micos da política de bonifica??o em quantidade de produto

Revista de Administra??o de Empresas , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-75902009000100007
Abstract: this article seeks to identify the perception of industrial controller managers have in regard to strategic and economic aspects of granting bonuses on higher product quantity purchases. the premise is that the economic results generated by the decision to grant a discount or a bonus for higher product quantities is much the same, taking into account the same amount of product delivered to the client. ninety-one surveys, from the fipecafi- fea-usp database, answered by controllers working in a variety of sectors were analyzed. the results revealed the following: 1) a very significant number of companies from the selected sample adopt a product quantity bonus policy; 2) commercial departments are generally responsible for this decision; and 3) the perception of controllers in regard to decision-making aspects in regard to granting bonuses in relation to product amounts purchased.

The sector of business tourism is growing and its importance has been increased all over the world. Protective action against chemical-induced genotoxicity and free radical scavenging activities of Stryphnodendron adstringens ("barbatim?o") leaf extracts
Santos Filho, Plínio R. dos;Ferreira, Lidiane A.;Gouvêa, Cibele M. C. Paiva;
Revista Brasileira de Farmacognosia , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-695X2011005000176
Abstract: the present study describes for the first time the antigenotoxic and antioxidant properties of stryphnodendron adstringens (mart.) coville, fabaceae ("barbatim?o") leaves. the aqueous (aeb), water fraction (wfb) and ethanolic (eeb) extracts of leaves were obtained and they presented high content of phenolic compounds, flavonoids and proanthocyanidins. wfb and eeb inhibited the genotoxicity induced by cyclophosphamide. wfb inhibited the dna lesion formation and both wfb and eeb decreased significantly (p<0.05) micronucleus formation. all extracts also showed high dpph radical scavenging activity and reducing power. in conclusion all extracts presented antioxidant activity and wfb and eeb protected cells from genotoxicity induced by cyclophosphamide in rat bone marrow cells. thus, our results support the beneficial effects of the barbatim?o extracts as an anticarcinogenic agent.

Arquivos de Neuro-Psiquiatria , 1996, DOI: 10.1590/S0004-282X1996000200019
Abstract: pseudoaneurysms of the extracranial vertebral artery are extremely rare due to their deep location and the anatomical protection of this artery. they can be caused by cervical traumas (firearm injuries, sports, hyperextension of the neck and iatrogeny). the authors report the case of a patient who developed a giant pseudoaneurysm of the extracranial vertebral artery after surgery for the removal of a tumor of the cerebellopontine angle in which surgical lesion of the artery occurred. treatment was performed by endovascular approach. literature is reviewed and comments are made on the physiopathogeny of the lesion and the different forms of treatment.
