Nesting and use of pollen resources by Tetrapedia diversipes Klug (Apidae) in Atlantic Forest areas (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) in different stages of regeneration

Abstract: nesting and use of pollen resources by tetrapedia diversipes klug (apidae) in atlantic forest areas (rio de janeiro, brazil) in different stages of regeneration. the nesting in trap-nests and use of pollen sources in larval food by tetrapedia diversipes klug, 1810 (apidae) was compared between regenerating areas of atlantic forest. the study was conducted between april 2008 and october 2009 at uni?o biological reserve, rio de janeiro, brazil. t. diversipes nested in 66 trap-nests and showed a peak of nesting during the months of highest rainfall. the most frequent pollen type in brood cells during the wet season was dalechampia sp. 1. during the dry season, the type ludwigia sp. was the most frequent, followed by dalechampia sp. 2. the high frequency of dalechampia and ludwigia species in the larval food, observed in both habitats and in the two seasons could be considered relevant for t. diversipes, suggesting highly selective diet based primarily on two plant species unrelated, but similar in size of pollen grains.
Palynotaxonomy of Vernonanthura H. Rob. (Vernonieae, Asteraceae) species from Southeast Brazil

Abstract: the present work studied the pollinic characteristics of 22 species of vernonanthura from southeast brazil. the pollen grains were acetolysed, measured, described and ilustrated under light, scanning and transmission electron microscopy. based on the results, vernonanthura was considered an euripolinic genus as pollen grains presented distinctive characteristics, mainly related to the ornamentation, the size and apertures of the pollen grains, which may serve as a further tool in the delimitation of the species.

Abstract: the palynotaxonomic study of cheiloclinium miers was conducted in order to contribute to a better characterization of this genus, represented in latin-america by 20 species. pollen grains from 38 specimens representing 14 brazilian species were examined. the pollen material was acetolyzed, measured, described and illustrated using ligth and scanning electron microscopy (sem). the data obtained were statistically analysed. the pollen grains of cheiloclinium are small in size (medium size only in c. pedunculatum a.c. sm.), isopolar, suboblate, oblate-spheroidal or subprolate, amb subtriangular or triangular, polar area small or very small (only in c. pedunculatum and c. podostemmum (sandw.) a.c. sm.), 3-colporate with lalongate endoaperture (circular only in c. diffusiflorum (miers) a.c. sm.) and microreticulate, reticulate or granulate. cheiloclinium is a stenopalynous genus. however it was possible to elaborate a pollen type key based upon light microscope observations and to distinguish between cheiloclinium species or species group showing that the pollen characteristics are useful for the taxonomic study of this genus. pollen grains of cheiloclinium were never analized before.

Abstract: the palynotaxonomic study of peritassa miers aimed to contribute to a better characterization as well as the circumscription and delimitation of this genus. the pollen grains of 10 species of the peritassa were studied. the pollen grains were acetolyzed, measured, described and illustrated using light microscopy (lm) and scanning eletronic microscopy (sem). the analysis in sem was used in order to elucidate the exine sculpture. the data obtained were statistically analysed according to sample sizes. p. calypsoides (camb.) a.c. sm. was the only species studied that showed tetrads. the species with pollen grains in monads are generally of small size, microreticulate (with smooth or undulate muri) or granulate, 3-colporate, with a prominent or not apertural area. pollinic key is presented using results obtained in light microscopy. peritassa is euripollinic genus and its palynological characteristics can help in taxonomic studies of this group.
Palinologia de espécies da tribo Eupatorieae (Compositae Giseke) ocorrentes na Restinga de Carapebus, Carapebus, Rio de Janeiro

Abstract: seven taxa belonging to the tribe eupatorieae have been studied palynologically. this tribe is represented by the following species: barrosoa atlantica king & robins., b. betonicaeformis (dc.) king & robins., mikania belemii king & robins., m. cordifolia willd., m. glomerata spreng., m. micrantha h.b.k., m. trinervis hook & arn. and trichogoniopsis podocarpa (dc.) king & robins. which were found in the "restinga" of carapebus, rio de janeiro, rj, brazil. the results showed that the tribe presented small or medium, oblate spheroidal to prolate spheroidal, tricolporate pollen grains, sexine with spines and cavea. these taxa could be separated when the pollinic shape and the dimensions of the spine (width, height and distance between them) were considered. after this, two groups were formed: the first one presented pollen grains with oblate spheroidal shape (barrosoa atlantica, mikania micrantha, m. trinervis) whereas in the second one the species showed prolate spheroidal shape (barrosoa betonicaeformis, mikania belemii, m. cordifolia, m. glomerata and trichogoniopis podocarpa). considering the results obtained and current literature, it is concluded that this tribe is palynologically homogeneous, although most of the species could be sorted out according to the pollen grains, except m. glomerata from t. podocarpa and m. belemii from m. cordifolia.

Abstract: the palynotaxonomic study of salacia l. aimed to contribute to a better characterization as well as the circumscription and delimitation of this genus. the pollen grains of 21 species of the salacia were studied. the pollen material was acetolyzed, measured, described and illustrated with photo or eletronmicrography (sem). the analysis in sem was used in order to elucidate the exine sculpture. the data obtained were statiscally analysed according to sample sizes. the pollen grains of salacia are generally of medium size, oblate-spheroidal, reticulate to microreticulate, 3-colporate predominantly with a characteristic prominent apertural area. salacia is a stenopalynous genus. however it was possible to make pollinic key with the results here obtained in light microscopy, and to segregate salacia species or group of species using pollen characters. the present work has corroborated, by means of the pollen grains, the circumscription and generic delimitation concerning the hippocrateaceae of south america.
Estudo polínico em plantas de restinga do Estado do Rio de Janeiro: Clusiaceae Lindl.

Abstract: this work deals with the palylonogy of eight species of clusiaceae: calophyllum brasiliense cambess., clusia criuva cambess., c. hilariana schltdl., c. lanceolata cambess., c. parviflora (sald.) engl., garcinia brasiliensis mart., kielmeyera membranacea casar. e symphonia globulifera l.f. the pollen material was acetolysed, measured, described and illustrated with photo or eletronmicrography (sem). the main features of the pollen grains were studied: shape, size, exine constitution and aperture type. the pollen grains of clusiaceae were small, medium or large in size, suboblate, oblate-spheroidal, prolate-spheroidal or subprolate, isopolar, porate (3-6) or 3-colporate, very small, small or large polar area, with rugulate or reticulate exine. it is concluded that the genera and the species can be separated by palynological characters, constituting an euripalynous group.

Abstract: O estudo palinotaxon mico de Peritassa Miers teve como objetivo contribuir para a melhor caracteriza o, circunscri o e delimita o deste gênero. Os gr os de pólen de dez espécies de Peritassa foram acetolisados, medidos, descritos e ilustrados sob microscopia de luz (ML) e microscopia eletr nica de varredura (MEV). A análise sob MEV foi utilizada visando a elucida o de dúvidas sobre a ornamenta o da exina. Apenas, P. calypsoides (Camb.) A.C. Sm. apresentou gr os de pólen em tétrades. As espécies com gr os de pólen em m nades s o, geralmente, de tamanho pequeno, microrreticulados (com muros lisos ou ondulados) ou granulados, 3-colporados, área apertural proeminente ou n o. Foi confeccionada uma chave polínica utilizando-se apenas os atributos observados sob microscopia de luz. Peritassa é um gênero euripolínico e as características palinológicas podem auxiliar os estudos taxon micos do grupo.

Constatou-se que os gr os de pólen s o predominantemente de tamanho médio, reticulados a microrreticulados, 3-colporados, geralmente com uma característica área apertural proeminente. Salacia é um gênero estenopolínico. Entretanto, o pólen permitiu a confec o da chave polínica e a separa o de diferentes espécies ou grupo de espécies de Salacia com base nos resultados obtidos sob microscopia de luz. O presente trabalho confirmou, por meio dos gr os de pólen, a circunscri o e a delimita o genérica da Hippocrateaceae da América do Sul.

Abstract: Foram estudados os gr os de pólen de sete táxons pertencentes à tribo Eupatorieae, ocorrentes na Restinga de Carapebus, Carapebus, Estado do Rio de Janeiro. S o eles: Barrosoa atlantica King & Robins., B. betonicaeformis (DC.) King & Robins., Mikania belemii King & Robins., M. cordifolia Willd., M. glomerata Spreng., M. micrantha H.B.K., M. trinervis Hook & Arn. e Trichogoniopsis podocarpa (DC.) King & Robins. A tribo apresentou em comum, gr os de pólen pequenos a médios, oblato-esferoidais a prolato-esferoidais, tricolporados, sexina espinhosa e cavada. Os táxons puderam ser separados quando foram consideradas a forma polínica, as dimens es do espinho e a distancia entre eles. Assim, foi possível formar dois conjuntos de espécies identificados pela forma polínica: o primeiro, com forma oblato-esferoidal, composto por Barrosoa atlantica, Mikania micrantha e M. trinervis e o segundo, com forma prolato-esferoidal, composto por Barrosoa betonicaeformis, Mikania belemii, M. cordifolia, M. glomerata e Trichogoniopsis podocarpa. Os resultados obtidos, em compara o à literatura corrente, permitem concluir que a tribo Eupatorieae é, palinologicamente, homogênea, porém algumas espécies podem ser separadas pelo gr o de pólen, exceto M. glomerata de T. podocarpa e M. belemii de M. cordifolia.
