Isolation, X-ray crystal structure and theoretical calculations of the new compound 8-Eepicordatin and identification of others terpenes and steroids from the bark and leaves of Croton palanostigma Klotzsch

Abstract: phytochemical studies of the bark and leaves of croton palanostigma klotzsch (euphorbiaceae) led to the isolation of a new clerodane diterpene, 8-epicordatin (2), in addition to 12-oxohardwickiic acid methyl ester (3), aparisthman, cordatin (1), ent-trachyloban-18-oic acid, ent-13-epimanoyl oxide, ent-3-oxo-13-epimanoyl oxide, ent-3β-hydroxy-13-epimanoyl oxide, sitosterol, stigmasterol, stigmastan-3-one, 6β-hydroxystigmast-4-en-3-one, 6β-hydroxystigmasta-4,22-dien-3-one, stigmast-4-en-3-one, stigmasta-4,22-dien-3-one, 3-o-acetylaleuritolic acid, 11α-hydroxyurs-12-en-3-one, α-amyrenone, 24-methylenecycloartenone and lupenone. these compounds were isolated using typical phytochemical procedures and the structures were deduced from spectroscopic studies, including 2d nmr experiments. in addition, the crystalline structure of 8-epicordatin (2) was determined by x-ray diffraction. nmr theoretical calculations at the b3pw91/dgdzvp level were used to confirm the assignment of the chemical shifts of the h-7α and h-7β hydrogens of 8-epicordatin.
Shelf life and rheology of emulsions containing vitamin c and its derivatives

Abstract: Ascorbic acid (AA), or vitamin C, is widely used in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food industries as an antioxidant and cosmetics containing AA have been gaining popularity in the last few years for the treatment of photoageing. To solve the problem of its low stability, some esters have been synthesised, such as magnesium ascorbyl phosphate (MAP), also available encapsulated in collagen-based microspheres (EMAP). The aim of this research was to study the physical and chemical stability of O/W emulsions containing AA, MAP or EMAP, by rheological and HPLC analysis, respectively. These emulsions were stored at 25, 37 and 45°C for 28 days and samples tested weekly during storage. It was concluded that all the formulations showed pseudoplastic behaviour. The presence of MAP provoked an initial rise in thixotropy. The formulation containing AA did not show any marked change in rheological behaviour. In the chemical analysis, the formulation with EMAP was more stable than those with MAP and AA. Hence, replacement of AA with EMAP in this cosmetic formulation may be a viable way to enhance the stability of the active principle. Keywords: Ascorbic acid. Magnesium ascorbyl phosphate. Uso do alimento por duas espécies simpátricas de Moenkhausia (Characiformes, Characidae) em um riacho da Regi?o Centro-Oeste do Brasil

Abstract: this study evaluated the seasonality in the diet of moenkhausia dichroura (kner, 1858) and m. sanctaefilomenae (steindachner, 1907), sympatric species of the cancela stream, state of mato grosso, brazil. regardless of the seasonal period, allochthonous food source predominated in the diet of both species (>50% of all items consumed) and among these terrestrial insects were the dominant resource. however, aquatic insects were important in the diet of m. dichroura as well. hymenoptera (formicidae) was the dominant item to both species, thus they were characterized as terrestrial insectivorous. the restricted diet of these species is confirmed by the trophic niche breadth, whose values were in general low: ba=0.26 to m. dichroura in both periods and ba=0.41 and 0.38 in the dry and rainy period, respectively, to m. sanctaefilomenae. the feeding overlap was high in the rainy period (ojk=0.75) and intermediate in the dry period (ojk=0.41), showing that the food partitioning between species was larger in this period.
Optimal configurations of composite multiple mass dampers in tall buildings

Abstract: the effectiveness of multiple tuned mass dampers (mtmd) for suppressing harmonically forced oscillations is studied in the paper. in particular the influence of possible connections between the masses of the damper on the main system performance is investigated using four different configurations of a double mass damper. for this, a minimax procedure, which considers all dampers parameters and variables, is used to optimize each configuration and compare their influence on the minimum value of the maximum magnification factor of the main system. a parametric study shows that small variations in the mtmd parameters and the way in which the masses are connected have a marked influence on the main system response. this sensitivity gives the designer more freedom in choosing the proper damper configuration in a practical situation.

Abstract: the search for software quality results in the adoption of best practices in the software development process, such as the practices specified by the cmmi maturity model. however, the cmmi implementation constitutes a difficult and slow process. besides, the quality of such a process directly affects the results obtained. this article explores the possibility of formalizing the cmmi practices via their mapping into business rules. this proposal viability was studied through the mapping of the cmmi part that concerns the requirements management area. this approach implies in an improvement of the cmmi certification/audit process and of the information system that supports the software development process.
Saturation and the Ratio sigmadiff/sigmatot in an electron-ion collider

Abstract: in this paper we investigate the saturation physics in diffractive deep inelastic electron-ion scattering. we estimate the energy and nuclear dependence of the ratio sdiff/stot. we show that saturation physics predicts that up to 37 % of the events observed at erhic should be diffractive. we have also studied how our results depend on the prescription to extend the saturation scale to the nuclear case.

Abstract: we study the predictions of cgc physics for electron-ion collisions at high energies. the nucleus at high energies acts as an amplifier of saturation effects. we have investigated some observables, using a generalization for nuclear targets of the iancu-itakura-munier model, and our results indicate that the experimental analysis of these observables in the future electron-ion collider could discriminate between linear and saturation physics, as well as constrain the behavior of the saturation scale.
The shape theorem for the frog model

Abstract: In this work we prove a shape theorem for a growing set of Simple Random Walks (SRWs), known as frog model. The dynamics of this process is described as follows: There are some active particles, which perform independent SRWs, and sleeping particles, which do not move. When a sleeping particle is hit by an active particle, it becomes active too. We prove that the set of the original positions of all the active particles, rescaled by the elapsed time, converges to some compact convex set. In some specific cases we are able to identify (at least partially) this set.

Abstract: We study a system of simple random walks on graphs, known as frog model. This model can be described as follows: There are active and sleeping particles living on some graph G. Each active particle performs a simple random walk with discrete time and at each moment it may disappear with probability 1-p. When an active particle hits a sleeping particle, the latter becomes active. Phase transition results and asymptotic values for critical parameters are presented for Z^d and regular trees.
