Delbem, Alberto Carlos Botazzo;Tiano, Gilberto Carlos;Alves, Karina Mirela Ribeiro Pinto;Cunha, Robson Frederico;
Journal of Applied Oral Science , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S1678-77572006000400004
Abstract: objetives: the aim of this study was to verify the anticariogenic effect of acidulate solutions with low naf concentration, using ph-cycling model and bovine enamel. material and methods: enamel blocks were submitted to the surface microhardness (smh) test and randomly divided in 12 experimental and one placebo groups. the blocks were submitted to ph cycling for 7 days, with daily applications once/day of 0.05% naf and 0.1% naf and twice/day of 0.02% naf solutions. four different ph: 4.0, 5.0, 6.0 and 7.0 were used. next, smh test was again used to determine the surface microhardness percentage change (%smh). data obtained for %smh were homogeneous and passed through variance analyses and tukey's test (5%) as far as fluoride concentrations and ph. results:the results showed that ph influenced %smh in 0.02% naf and 0.05% naf solutions with ph 4.0, which had less mineral loss compared to ph 7.0 (p<0.05). the 0.02% naf - ph 4.0, and 0.05% naf - ph 7.0 groups showed similar results (p>0.05). a dose-response relationship was observed among the tested solutions, with better anticariogenic effect for the 0.1% naf solution. conclusion: the results suggest that the addition of citric acid to acidulate mouth rinses reduce mineral loss.

Revista Brasileira de Engenharia Agrícola e Ambiental , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S1415-43662007000200010
Abstract: the degraded soil shows, in general, poor biological activity, considering its physical characteristics, low fertility and organic matter, mainly due to removal or degradation of its superficial layer. the sewage sludge, due to its high content of easily decomposed organic matter can be an alternate source of organic residues and combined to its high content of the principal nutrients for the plants can be an important factor to promote biological activities in degraded soil. in order to study the actions of the sewage sludge in the recovery of a degraded latosol, the carbon in the microbial biomass (cmic), the carbon released co2 (c-co2) and the relation between microbial and organic carbon (cmic/corg) were used as indicators of the effects. to do so, two doses (30 and 60 mg ha-1) of sewer slime applied in topdressing and incorporated together with a mineral fertilizer treatment, using the eucalyptus as a test crop. a completely randomized design with 4 treatments and 4 repetitions was used. the sewage sludge promoted increase of liberated c-co2 and the cmic, which constitute the adequate quality indicators for monitoring the soil recovery.

Acta Scientiarum : Technology , 2006,
Activated carbons were prepared from mixtures of sugar cane bagasse and molasses in bagasse:molasses mass ratios from 1:0 to 1:2. The mixture was pressed to form pellets, and pyrolyzed under N2 flow of 150 mL·min-1, at 850°C, for 1 hour. The pyrolyzed carbons were activated with CO2, under the flow of 75 mL·min-1 at 850°C for 30 min. The activated carbons were characterized by an analysis of nitrogen adsorption isotherms (77 K), pH, and solutions decolorization of sugar cane molasses (1% w/v). Results showed that the activated carbons presented yield of 23% in relation to the initial pellets, surface areas from 272 to 455 m2·g-1, and that micro and mesopores were predominant in the pore size distribution. Activated carbons made with a smaller amount of molasses in the mixture were as efficient in the decolorization as a commercial reference carbon.

Carvalho, Daniel Fonseca de;Soares, Ant?nio Alves;Ribeiro, Carlos Ant?nio Alvares Soares;Sediyama, Gilberto C.;Pruski, Fernando Falco;
Revista Brasileira de Engenharia Agrícola e Ambiental , 2000, DOI: 10.1590/S1415-43662000000200012
Abstract: this research was developed with the objective of selecting the crops and planting dates in order to maximize the farmers income and the water resources in the gorutuba irrigation district. a linear programming model was used with an objective function to maximize the monthly income as a function of the cultivated area with the crops used in the region, subjected to the restrictions of the irrigated area and the availability of water. the net income differences obtained in the optimization with and without restriction in the cultivated area of yearly crops were 15.2% and 10.2%, for the large and the small farm plots, respectively. the water distribution system does not limit the crop selection in the irrigation district. the difference in the net income caused by the crops used was influenced more by the type of irrigation systems than by the soil water holding capacity.
