Dada a agressividade do melanoma, a sobrevida depende do diagnóstico precoce.

Abstract: This article will outline a process of research-intervention carried out over a year in a Psychosocial Care Center forAlcohol and Drugs (CAPSad). This research took place on practices based on concepts that involve the InstitutionalAnalysis, thus advocating a job analysis of the complex network of knowledge and power relations present in suchservice, as well as of the institutional dynamics which causes productive or instituting forces to circulate there, inaddition to forces which tend to perpetuate themselves to what is established. We have used the method ofresearch-intervention, for it is a method of research which dissociates the act of researching from the act ofintervening, causing the route of this research to be traced in the processuality and complexity of the eventsinvestigated. In this investigative-intervening process, the clinic of the Damage Reduction became an issue, for it isa guideline for the public policies in this area. This article will outline a process of research-intervention carried out over a year in a Psychosocial Care Center forAlcohol and Drugs (CAPSad). Abstract: objective: to present a case of a child who was subjected to sentinel lymph node biopsy for cutaneous melanoma. description: a 12 year-old child with dysplastic nevus syndrome developed melanoma on the lumbar region. the excision biopsy revealed a melanoma with depth of 1.5 mm. the patient was submitted to amplification of the margins 2 cm in all directions and the sentinel node was also excised. the histopathological exam did not show residual disease. sentinel on exam did not show metastases either under hematoxylin-eosin stain or immunohistochemistry (s-100 and hmb45). therefore, rt-pcr for tyrosinase mrna was positive. the patient has been followed for twelve months without evidence of recurrence. comments: childhood melanoma is rare, corresponding to less than 1% of malignant tumors in children. data point to a worldwide increase in its incidence. melanoma occurs in melanocytic lesions in 70% and in the remaining 30% it occurs de novo. melanoma is very aggressive, so the survival depends on an early diagnosis. sentinel lymph node biopsy has selected patients to complete lymphadenectomy. some authors have been using this technique in childhood melanoma.

Abstract: Glucose metabolism was investigated throughout Aedes aegypti (Diptera) embryonic development. Both cellular blastoderm formation (CBf, 5 h after egg laying - HAE) and germ band retraction (GBr, 24 HAE) may be considered landmarks regarding glucose 6-phosphate (G6P) destination. We observed high levels of glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDH) activity at the very beginning of embryogenesis, which nevertheless decreased up to 5 HAE. This activity is correlated with the need for nucleotide precursors generated by the pentose phosphate pathway (PPP), of which G6PDH is the key enzyme. We suggest the synchronism of egg metabolism with carbohydrate distribution based on the decreasing levels of phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK) activity and on the elevation observed in protein content up to 24 HAE. Concomitantly, increasing levels of hexokinase (HK) and pyruvate kinase (PK) activity were observed, and PEPCK reached a peak around 48 HAE. Glycogen synthase kinase (GSK3) activity was also monitored and shown to be inversely correlated with glycogen distribution during embryogenesis. The results herein support the hypothesis that glucose metabolic fate changes according to developmental embryonic stages. Germ band retraction is a moment that was characterized as a landmark in glucose metabolism during Aedes aegypti embryogenesis. Furthermore, the results also suggest a role for GSK3 in glycogen balance/distribution during morphological modifications. The mosquito Aedes aegypti is vector of urban yellow fever and also the main dengue vector [1]. One of the major problems involving dengue transmission is that A. aegypti embryos enter dormancy at the end of embryogenesis, surviving and remaining viable for several months inside the egg [2-4]. This extended viability is possible due to the acquisition of embryonic desiccation resistance, a biological mechanism that is believed to involve the formation and maturation of serosal cuticle, a layer covering the embryo [5]. Abstract: helicobacter pylori is a bacterium recognized as the major cause of chronic gastritis and peptic ulcers. infection by h. pylori induces inflammatory responses and pathological changes in the gastric microenvironment. the host keywords: immune cells (especially neutrophils) release inflammatory mediators and large 5-methoxy-3,4-dehydroxanthomegnin amounts of reactive oxygen species (ros), which are associated with an increased helicobacter pyloririsk of developing gastric cancer. in this study, we evaluated the anti-h. pylori and oxidative burst antioxidantactivitiesofa1,4-naphthoquinone-5-methoxy-3,4-dehydroxanthomegnin. paepalanthus latipes the antimicrobial activity was assessed using a spectrophotometric microdilution technique, and antioxidant activity was assessed by noting the effect of 5-methoxy3,4-dehydroxanthomegnin on the neutrophil oxidative burst using luminol-and lucigenin-amplified chemiluminescence. the results showed that 5-methoxy-3,4dehydroxanthomegnin is a potent anti-h. pylori compound (mic 64 μg/ml and mbc 128 μg/ml) and a strong antioxidant. 5-methoxy-3,4-dehydroxanthomegnin decreased luminol- and lucigenin-amplified chemiluminescence, with ed50 values of 1.58±0.09 μg/ml and 5.4±0.15 μg/ml, respectively, reflecting an inhibitory effect on the oxidative burst. these results indicate that 5-methoxy-3,4-dehydroxanthomegnin is a promising compound for the prevention and treatment of diseases caused by h. pylori infection, such as gastritis, peptic ulceration, and gastric cancer, because reactive oxygen intermediates are involved in the pathogenesis of gastric mucosal injury induced by h. pylori infections.
