Abstract: belonging to lauraceae family, avocado vegetables include three races: west indian, guatemalan and mexican. molecular markers are a fast and efficient tool for genomic studies since they detect polymorphism directly at the dna level and do not suffer any kind of environmental influence. based on this polymorphism, it is possible to make inferences about the relationship between genotype and phenotype of individuals, which ultimately will increase the efficiency of breeding programs. the objective of this study was to investigate the genetic diversity among seven varieties of avocados from five loci of microsatellite molecular markers (ssr). in samples of avocado evaluated it was found a total of 18 alleles, with an average of 3.6 alleles per locus. the dendrogram generated from upgma cluster analysis grouped separately from the rest of the genotypes the "geada" cultivar an antillean race, possibly because this strain is a pure race, the remainder was divided into two principal races groups, the guatemalan and the mexican. the genotypes of the seven varieties of avocado, show genetic diversity in the five loci of microsatellite molecular markers (ssr) assessed, indicating that they are promising materials for using in future breeding programs.

Abstract: Zinc is the micronutrient that presents the greatest response in corn grain production. However, the mode of application and the dose used are decisive factors with respect to fertilizer efficiency in the crop. Thus, the objective of the present study was to evaluate the residual effect of zinc application methods and rates on corn nutrition and productivity. The experiment was conducted in the experimental area of the Teaching, Research and Production Farm of the FCAV/UNESP. Soil in the area is classified as dystrophic Dark-Red Latosol (dRL). The experimental setup consisted of a randomized complete block design with four replications. Treatments included three localized Zn doses applied to the soil (planting row); three Zn doses incorporated into the soil at depth of 0 - 20 cm; foliar application, seed application and treatment without addition of Zn. Two evaluations of growth during cultivation were performed. Grain productivity of the crop and the zinc content in soil, leaves and seeds were evaluated. Foliar spraying with Zn simultaneously promoted increased leaf Zn content and basal diameter of the plant. The Zn contents in grains and in the soil, as well as grain yield, were not affected by the Zn application methods or the applied doses. The residual effect of incorporated Zn doses was observed only in the basal diameter and number of leaves at 60 days after emergence.

Abstract: The objective of this study was to evaluate the differences in composition among six brands of conventional soybean and six genetically modified cultivars (GM). We focused on the isoflavones profile and mineral content questioning the substantial equivalence between conventional and GM organisms. The statement of compliance label for conventional grains was verified for the presence of genetic modified genes by real time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). We did not detect the presence of the 35S promoter in commercial samples, indicating the absence of transgene insertion. For mineral analysis, we used the method of inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES). Isoflavones quantification was performed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The results showed no statistical difference between the conventional and transgenic soybean groups concerning isoflavone content and mineral composition. The concentration of potassium, the main mineral component of soy, was the highest in conventional soybeans compared to that in GM soy, while GM samples presented the highest concentrations of iron.

Abstract: purpose: to evaluate the epidemiological and clinical aspects of gynecological patients seeking care in the private and public health networks. methods: in this cross-sectional study we analyzed the records of 243 patients (122 public service patients and 121 private service ones), from january 2007 to january 2008. we excluded records of pregnant patients with vaginal bleeding, history of using vaginal creams or gels at intervals of less than 15 days and patients who had sexual intercourse within less than five days before their visit and with incomplete clinical data. data were analyzed statistically using the stata software, version 9.2, with a 5% level of significance. results: the mean age of the patients attending the public health service was 27±12 years-old and 25.9±10.4 years-old for patients attending the private health service, with no statistical difference between means (f=0.5 and p=0.4). patients attending the public health service had lower education (p<0.001), they were preferentially housewives (p<0.001), began sexual life early, had a greater number of partners (p<0.001), of pregnancies (p<0.001) and of deliveries (p=0.004), and mainly used the condom as a contraceptive method (p=0.013). there was no statistical difference between groups regarding the history of sexual transmitted diseases, diagnosis of candidiasis, bacterial vaginosis, trichomoniasis, or neoplasia. conclusions: patients attending the public health service have a higher number of pregnancies and births. they are usually housewives with low educational level, their sex life begins early, and they have more partners. however, there was no difference between groups when evaluating breast diseases, gynecological infections, or cancer of the cervix, which suggests that socioeconomic status is not the only element in the determination of the disease and, therefore, other variables should be evaluated.

Abstract: The research aimed to evaluate the incidence and the populations dynamics in sugarcane crop in no-tillage system in comparison to the conventional one. The experimental design was completely random, using four replications, in a factorial 4x2 outline. The treatments were: (I) – sugarcane PC incorporated to spontaneous vegetation with manuring and (II) – the same procedure as in I without manuring; (III) – sugarcane SPD over jack bean (Canavalia ensiformis) with manuring and (IV) – the same procedure as in III without manuring; (V) – sugarcane SPD over velvet bean (Mucuna aterrima) with manuring and (VI) – the same procedure as in V without manuring and (VII) – sugarcane SPD over sunnhemp (Crotalaria juncea) with manuring and (VIII) – the same procedure as in VII without manuring. The species Cyperus rotundus and Sorghum halepense presented the highest rates of value of importance in the experimental area. Sugarcane SPD over jack bean presented the lowest similarity rate in the community of weed in relation to the sugarcane cultivated conventionally. The incidence of weed in the sugarcane PC was 531 and 525% superior in to the sugarcane SPD, and contributed to the reduction of 27% in the yield.
