Ecophysiological Effects of Nitrogen on Soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.]  [PDF]

Abstract: Soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] is a leguminous plant with high nutritional and medicinal value. The goal of this research was to determine the optimal concentration of nitrogen, using Hoagland nutrient solution, which will enhance the productivity of soybeans. The specific objective of the study was to assess the effect of variation of nitrogen concentration on soybean growth and leaf chlorophyll concentrations. Soybeans were grown under three soil nitrogen amendments: low, medium, and high concentration of Hoagland nutrient solution and a control group. Soybeans were grown under controlled environmental conditions in the Biotronette? environmental chamber. Temperature of the environmental chamber was regulated at 27 and the photoperiod was set to 10 L: 14D. Soybeans grown in the low treatment group had the highest growth rate (1.03 ± 0.03 cm/day) compared to the control, medium, and high treatment groups. During the first chlorophyll analyses, the control group had the highest total chlorophyll concentration (216.25 ± 4.09 μg/mL/g). During the second chlorophyll analyses, the low treatment group had the highest total chlorophyll concentration (102.81 ± 14.54 μg/mL/g). Although no finding was statistically significant between groups, the low nitrogen treatment conditions had a trend towards producing more favorable physiological outcomes on soybeans.

Abstract: Se hace una revisión de los mecanismos moleculares involucrados en la enfermedad de Alzheimer. En ésta participa un grupo de proteínas que llevan a la formación de las lesiones cerebrales; ellas son: la proteína precursora de Amiloide (PPA), directamente productora del péptido p Amiloide, que produce las placas seniles; la Apolipoproteína E (Apo E), Como factor de riesgo para el desarrollo de la enfermedad; la Proteína 1:, desencadenante de las tramas neurofibrilares y la Presenilinas (PS1 y PS2) cuyo papel está por dilucidarse. Se hace énfasis especial en una mutación de PS1 (E280A) detectada en familias antioque as y se plantea la probable relación de mutaciones de PS con el desarrollo de la enfermedad.

Abstract: Hydrosilylation of 2-chloroethylvinyl ether by octahydridosilsesilsesquioxane catalyzed by hexachloroplatinic acid gives a quantitative yield of 3 as white crystals. Thermogravimetric analysis of Si8O12(CH2CH2OCH2CH2Cl)83 revealed that it is thermally reasonably stable. Spectroscopic data and a crystal structure determination have been used to confirm the integrity, structural and molecular connectivity of the novel compound. Abstract: La Enfermedad de Alzheimer (EA) es un trastorno neurológico con devastadores efectos físicos, económicos, familiares y sociales. En la actualidad es considerada como un problema de salud pública y las perspectivas para los próximos a os son poco alentadoras, teniendo en cuenta que aún no se cuenta con un tratamiento efectivo contra ella. Aproximadamente el 15% de los afectados con EA presentan agregación familiar, de los cuales la gran mayoría son heterocigóticos para una mutación en el gen de la Presenilina 1 (PS1) (1).

Abstract: Uno de los ácaros más ampliamente distribuidos y que causan pérdidas en cultivos bajo Invernadero en la Sabana de Bogotá es T. urt/ca8 Koch. Utilizando la técnica del disco de hoja con follaje de rosa se determinó el ciclo de vida de esta especie y se elaboró la tabla de vida. El experimento se mantuvo en condiciones ambientales controladas con una temperatura de 23 ± 2°C y humedad relativa de 85 ± 5%. La duración de los diferentes estadios fue: Huevo 7.39 dlas, larva 1.87, nlnfocrlsállda 1.57, protonlnfa 1.53, deutocrlsállda 1.52, deutonlnfa 1.73 y tellocrlsállda 1.84 dlas. El periodo de ovlposición fue de 35 días con un promedio de 3.52 huevos/hembra/día. Se construyó la curva de supervlvlencla para todo el ciclo de vida y se calcularon algunos parámetros poblaclonales tales como tasa neta de reproducción (Ro)' tiempo medio generacional (T), tasa Intrinseca de crecimiento natural (rrn), tasa finita de multiplicación (A) y distribución estable de edades. The two spotted spider mite, tetrenychus urticae Koch is one of the most widely dlstributed mites in the world and one of the maln causes of losses in commercial greenhouses in Bogota. Using the leaf dlsc technique some basic biologlcal data were studied under laboratory conditions with a temperature of 23 ±2°C and a relative humidlly of 85 ± 5%. Life cycle was determined uslng rose leaves as host plant. Ovlposition time for females was 35 days with an average of 3.52 eggs per female per day. Net reproductlve rate (Ro), mean length of a generation (T), Intrinsic rate of natural increase (r..,.,,) finite rate of reproduction ('A) and stable age distribution were calculated.
Patrones de búsqueda y respuesta funcional del Acaro Phytoseiidae Neoseiulus anonymus (Chant & Baker), depredando a Tetranychus urticae (Koch)

Abstract: Las respuestas de hembras adultas de Tetrenychus urtieae (Koch) a condiciones variables de luz y topografía (reportadas en publicación anterior por los mismos autores). fueron comparadas con los patrones de búsqueda desarrollados por Neoseiulus anonymus (Chant & Baker) bajo las mismas condiciones experimentales. Mediante la medida de tales patrones se determinó la velocidad de búsqueda y se multiplicó por el campo de percepción con el fin de determinar el área total de búsqueda del depredador. En una segunda parte se examinó la respuesta funcional del depredador a varias densidades de huevos de T. urtieae (1,2,4,7,10, 13,19 Y 30 huevos por disco de hoja de rosa de dos centímetros de diámetro). En general el presente estudio determina los potenciales de búsqueda y depredación de N. anonymus y los compara con los de Amblyseius herbieolus (Chant) y Neoseiulus ehilenensis (Desse) determinados y publica' dos previamente. Cascade-Exciton Model Analysis of Proton Spallation from 10 MeV to 5 GeV

Abstract: We have used an extended version of the Cascade-Exciton Model (CEM) to analyze more than 600 excitation functions for proton induced reactions on 19 targets ranging from C-12 to Au-197, for incident energies ranging from 10 MeV to 5 GeV. We have compared the calculations to available data, to calculations using approximately two dozen other models, and to predictions of several phenomenological systematics. We present here our conclusions concerning the relative roles of different reaction mechanisms in the production of specific final nuclides. We comment on the strengths and weaknesses of the CEM and suggest possible further improvements to the CEM and to other models.
