Finding Multiple Length-Bounded Disjoint Paths in Wireless Sensor Networks  [PDF]

Abstract: In a wireless sensor network, routing messages between two nodes s and t with multiple disjoint paths will increase the throughput, robustness and load balance of the network. The existing researches focus on finding multiple disjoint paths connecting s and t efficiently, but they do not consider length constraint of the paths. A too long path will be useless because of high latency and high packet loss rate. This paper deals with such a problem: given two nodes s and t in a sensor network, finding as many as possible disjoint paths connecting s and t whose lengths are no more than L, where L is the length bound set by the users. By now, we know that this problem is not only NP hard but also APX complete [1,2], which means that there is no PTAS for this problem. To the best of our knowledge, there is only one heuristic algorithm proposed for this problem [3], and it is not suitable for sensor network because it processes in a centralized way. This paper proposes an efficient distributed algorithm for this problem. By processing in a distributed way, the algorithm is very communication efficient. Simulation results show that our algorithm outperforms the existing algorithm in both aspects of found path number and communication efficiency.
Construction of Sensory Transfer Model of Gustatory and Olfactory-Synaesthetic Metaphor (GO-STM) and English-Chinese Comparative Study  [PDF]

Abstract:

This paper aims to explore the synaesthetic truth of taste and smell in particular. Based on the corpus of gustatory and olfactory-synaesthetic cases, classification and statistical tasks are undertaken, in which four main characters are discovered: 1) the particular sorts of gustatory and olfactory-synaesthetic metaphors; 2) the bi-directional transfer in specific pairs; 3) the hierarchical distribution among sensory modes; 4) the transfer frequencies of sensory transfer tendencies. Thus, GO-STM of both English and Chinese is constructed. What’s more, the comparison of English and Chinese has been conducted for the first time. According to the statistic results, the percentage of English-Chinese gustatory and olfactory-synaesthetic dead metaphors is 48.1% and 48.3% respectively, and that’s why we always ignore them. Furthermore, the embodiment basis of synaesthetic metaphors is analyzed in light of recent neurological research and Cognitive Linguistics.

Abstract: For the time being, “Mandarin fever” has been warming up persistently. This article analyzes that the root cause for this phenomenon lies in the daily mightiness of China and distinctive charm of Chinese culture. At the time when we take the pride, we also have to calm down to face up with the fact and make reflections. On one hand, we should try to make a good job of economic construction in a down-to-earth manner, continue to enhance the comprehensive national strength of our country and further reinforce military and scientific strength. On the other hand, we should continuously improve quality of teaching Chinese a foreign language and connotation of teaching Chinese as a foreign language and strengthen competitive force of “Confucius Institute” as a primary channel for teaching Chinese as a foreign language. It is necessary to carry forward Chinese culture, manifest quintessence of Chinese culture and enable Chinese to become one of the languages that people from all over the world show favor for in their communication.

Abstract:

This article investigates the relationships between heart valve closure timing intervals and left ventricular systolic blood pressure (LVSBP). For this investigation, the cardiopulmonary system is modeled as an analog circuit, including heart chambers, the distal and proximal aorta, distal and proximal systemic arteries/veins, systemic capillaries, the vena cava, the distal and proximal pulmonary artery, distal and proximal pulmonary arteries/veins, pulmonary capillaries and physiological control of heart rate and cardiac contractibility. In this model, the ventricles, atria and arteries were modeled as advanced pressur-volume relationships. A vagal-sympathetic mechanism was adopted to simulate transient systemic and pulmonary blood pressure. Four intervals, i.e., the timing interval between mitral and aortic valve closure (TIMA), the timing interval between aortic and mitral valve closure (TIAM), the timing interval be- tween aortic and pulmonary valve closure (TIAP) and the timing interval between mitral and tricuspid valve closure (TIMT), are further defined in a heart cycle to illustrate their relationships to LVSBP. Simula- tions showed that the TIMA, TIAM and TIAP have strong negative correlations with LVSBP; meanwhile, the TIMT has a slightly negative relationship with LVSBP. To further validate the relationships, 6 healthy male subjects were experimentally evaluated. The intervals were extracted from non-invasively sampled heart sound signals taken from the surface of the thorax. The experiments showed relationships consistent with those obtained by simulations. These relationships may have potential applications for noninvasively accessing LVSBP in real-time with a high time resolution of one heartbeat.

 

Optimization of Water Resource Management Using Chooser Option Contracts under Uncertainty  [PDF]

Abstract: Optimization of water resource management is very important to reduce water shortage risk and increase economic benefit. Water option can be used as a flexible instrument in water resource management. In this study, chooser options are designed for water managers to buy additional water in drought periods and sell redundant water in wet periods. To make optimal decisions under uncertainties including probability distributions and intervals, an inexact two-stage mixed-integer programming (ITSMIP) model is applied. To illustrate the role of chooser options in water resource management, a case study is presented. Factors which influence the willingness of buying the chooser options are analyzed and the optimal water allocation plans are also provided. The results demonstrate that chooser options can help water managers mitigate the impact of water shortage and increase utilization efficiency of water resource greatly.

Abstract: The global financial crisis triggered by the US subprime mortgage crisis in 2008 has caused serious impact on the financial system around the world, which also aggravated the banking system. Since the banking industry is the core element of financial system, various scholars and relevant regulatory authorities have paid attention to the stability of the banking system. Unlike the traditional qualitative research, many scholars have adopted the method of computational finance based on the complex network theory to explore the banking system in recent years. Therefore, this paper has carried out a literature review of the stability of banking system under different network structures. It presents the analysis of model and results so as to have a clear understanding on the topic.

Abstract: the reaction between calcium and alizarin (alz) was investigated for the spectrophotometric determination of trace amounts of calcium. the cationic surfactant, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (ctab) was useful to increase the sensitivity. the beta-correction method was applied for the determination of the properties of the ca-alz complex instead of ordinary spectrophotometry. results showed that the complex formed, expressed as ca(alz)2, has a real molar absorptivity equal to 3.74′103 l mol-1 cm-1 at 630 nm.
Scientific research and field applications of polymer flooding in heavy oil recovery

Abstract: According to past experiences, polymer flood was not recommended for oil viscosity higher than 100 centipoises. In recent years, polymer flood becomes a promising technology for heavy oil recovery thanks to the widespread use of horizontal wells. This paper highlights the research advances of polymer in heavy oil recovery since 1977. In laboratory tests, polymer achieved tertiary recovery of more than 20% for heavy oil. A few field cases in China, Canada, Turkey, Suriname and Oman are also reviewed and analysed. Some field pilots have shown positive results. Field experiences indicate the major challenge facing polymer flooding effectiveness is to maintain good viscosity of polymer solution.
