Abstract: The effects of the addition of calcium oxide (0.75; 1.5 and 2.25%) in the sugarcane bagasse were studied with the objective of evaluating characteristics of the carcass in crossbred Santa Ines lambs. Twenty animals, with average live weight of 14 ± 4,5 kg were distributed in a completely randomized experimental design. The animals received concentrated containing corn, soybean meal and urea, and also the sugar cane bagasse. The slaughter reached 81 days of confinement. Means for hot and cold carcass weights, hot and cold carcass revenues, and chilling lost were 14.66 kg, 14.35 kg, 46.62%, 45.45% and 2.09%, respectively. Treatments did not affect the subjective measures, degree of fat covering and shape form, and the objective measures, ribeye area and kidney and cavity fat. The treatment of the sugar-cane bagasse with CaO increased the live weight, but did not affect the carcass characteristics in sheep. KEY WORDS: Carcass quality, co-products, ruminant.

Thirty-six animals (Nelore and crossbred) were confined, with age average of 24 months and initial average weight of 448.10kg. The slaughter occurred after 15 days adaptation and 50 days of experimental evaluation, totaling 65 days of confinement, with final average live weight of 512.25kg. The daily weigh gain and final live weight were similar between Nelore and crossbred, just like hot and cold carcass weights. Nevertheless, hot and cold carcass yields were bigger in Nelore animals (52.96 versus 51.53 and 52.12 versus 50.75%, respectively). Nelore exhibited hindquarter weight of 6.95kg more, which reflected directly in percentage of hindquarter cut, being 51.63% for Nelore and 49.10% for crossbred. The forequarter percentage was bigger in crossbred (40.56 versus 38.35%). The top sirloin cap of Nelore animals was 0.11kg heavier. There were no differences for fat thickness and loin eye area. About fat score and muscularity, Nelore had superior valuations (2.33 versus 1.93 points and 1.95 versus 1.71 points, respectively). Cold carcass pH was not different. Crossbred and Nelore animals, confined at a 65 days period, have satisfactory carcass weight, but did not present minimal fat finishing of 3mm.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate weight gain and carcass traits of finishing Nellore bulls fed different levels of sugarcane or sugarcane bagasse ammoniated with urea replacing sorghum silage. Thirty five young bulls were used with an average of 2 years old and initial body weight of 448,2 kg, being distributed into 7 treatments: T1 – 100% sorghum silage; T2 – 70% sorghum silage + 30% sugarcane; T3 – 30% sorghum silage + 70% sugarcane; T4 – 100% sugarcane; T5 – 70% sorghum silage + 30% sugarcane bagasse ammoniated with urea; T6 – 30% sorghum silage + 70% sugarcane bagasse ammoniated with urea and T7 – 100% sugarcane bagasse ammoniated with urea. Concentrate was provided in the amount corresponding to 1.2% of body weight. The replacement of sorghum silage by sugarcane did not affect (P>0.05) the average daily gain (ADG), but the replacement by sugarcane bagasse ammoniated with urea had a linear decreasing effect (P<0.05) on ADG. Hot carcass dressing percentage decreased linearly (P<0.05) as sorghum silage was replaced by both sugarcane and sugarcane bagasse. The replacement of sorghum silage by sugarcane had a linear effect on beefplate weight, which decreased, but a positive effect on ribeye area (REA), which increased linearly (P<0.05). Increasing levels of sugarcane ammoniated bagasse led to a linear reduction on hot carcass weight, cold carcass weight, hindquarter and forequarter weight, beefplate weight, but a linear increased on REA (P<0.05). Nelore bulls produced carcasses with similar quality when fed sorghum silage or sugarcane. However, carcass quality in terms of some quantitative characteristics decrease a sugarcane bagasse ammoniated with urea increase in the diet as roughage source. O concentrado fornecido correspondeu a 1,2% do peso corporal.

Abstract: To guarantee the reservoirs water use efficiency, because of hydrological uncertainties, has become a great concern for the water resources planning and management in recent years, due to increasing water demands for several uses and environmental degradation, which diminishes the water availability. The objective of this work is to analyze and to compare the performance 2 scenes of agricultural planning for the system of reservoirs Catolé II and Po o Redondo, in the Piancó’s river basin, located in the semiarid region of Paraíba state, through the combination of the optimization and simulation models, both based on sequential linear programming. Each model gets, respectively, from the dry scenario, the performance indicators (reliability, resilience and vulnerability) and the settings for an Optimal Agricultural Planning (POA) of the system, which is compared with the Agricultural Planning proposed by the State Water Resources Policies for the Piancó’s basin river (PAPD). The results showed that PAPD estimated irrigation water demand is not sustainable to attend during years of drought, failing up to 3 consecutive months, in which the attendance was 20% of the required demand. There were no failing events for the fulfillment of POA estimated irrigated water demand due the reduction of 11,5 % of the plantation area.

Engenharia Ambiental : Pesquisa e Tecnologia , 2010,
Abstract: In the northeastern Brazil great part of the reservoirs presents great taxes of evaporation, high shed outflows and me the quality of its waters. This occurs, in the majority of the cases, had to the favorable climatic situations, due to a rational planning or, even though, for the bad sizing of the water structures. Based in this context, the objective of this research is to choose and to analyze the efficiency of four rules for operation of the reservoirs Engenheiro ávidos and S o Gon alo, considering or not it happened outflow of the river San Francisco. The operation rules, had been evaluated way the application of a simulation model, that uses techniques of sequential programming linear, that they minimize the losses for evaporation and vertimento and maximize the satisfaction of attendance of the demands. The results had demonstrated that the operation rule more efficiency for the system was with the volume the equal goal 75% of the capacity of the reservoirs, disclosing that the reservoirs look for to store water of the period of rain. Considering the happened outflow of the transposition of the River San Francisco, we can conclude that the adjusted rules of operation more, had been those that had presented the biggest synergetic profits
