----- Collaboration on Research, Development and Innovation Activities: what can be learnt from the Petrobras/Coppe UFRJ model of Centers and Networks of Excellence? ----- ABSTRACT ----- The complexity of the technological innovation process in knowledge intensive activities has led to the emergence of new collaborative arrangements and new business models to deal with research, development and innovation (RD&I) activities. Abstract: the economic and productive performances of the dietary corn replacement with cassava shavings flour were evaluated in 200 lohmann lsl laying hens with 46 weeks old, kept in 25 cages. the experiment was analyzed as a complete randomized design with five treatments and five replicates of eight birds per experimental unit. the treatments consisted of five levels (0, 25, 50, 75, and 100%) of corn replacement with cassava shavings flour. quadractic effect on daily feed intake, with averages of 100.68, 101.00, 100.72, 99.42, and 99.50 g, in the respective replacement levels, was observed. viability, egg production and feeding conversion (kg/dz and g/g) showed no significant differences. it was observed treatment effect (quadractic effect) on egg weight, albumen percentage, shell percentage, shell thickness and specific gravity. egg mass and yolk percentage were not affected by the treatments. the 50% level treatment provided the lowest shell percentage in spite of presenting the highest egg weight. the egg yolk colour was affected by the treaments and showed linear decrease (7.84, 7.52, 7.35, 5.32, and 5.12) as the corn replacement level increased. from an economical viewpoint, the 100% level treatment presented higher difference on the cost per kilogram of feed, egg-dozen, and egg-box in relation to the other treatments. it is possible to replace up to 100% of corn by with cassava shavings flours with no changes on egg yield and feeding conversion. however, the replacement will depend on the relative cost of corn and pigments to be used for correcting egg yolk pigmentation.

Abstract: the objective of this work is to explore the context in which the instituto euvaldo lodi has induced university-enterprise relations within the local science and technology system in bahia, brazil, between 1996 and 1998. in order to do so, the authors analyses a few relevant aspects of the brazilian innovation system and its bahia sub-system. such analysis takes into account three basic points of view: that of the productive sector (i.e., how the intra-firm work is organized and how inter-firm exchanges affect the system), that of the state (financial support and public policies) and that of the research and higher education institutions. against this background, the authors describes the iel programs for bridging university knowl-edge and entrepreneurial practice in bahia, aiming at creating better conditions for technological innovation. among the main conclusions of this dissertation is the realization that, in spite of the limited potential of innovation in technologically fragmented environments, the bridging work of agents such as iel may promote specific interactions between enterprises and universities, creating an environment in which information exchange, cooperative projects and consulting activities may be stimulated.

Journal of Cancer Research and Therapeutics , 2009,
Abstract: Primary lymphoma of bone (PLB) is an extremely rare condition that is usually confused with other primary injuries of the bone. It is characterized by the involvement of one or more bone locations, with or without involvement of regional lymph nodes and viscera. PLB constitutes 3-7% of all malignant bone tumors and approximately 3% of all extranodal lymphomas. It is found at all ages, being most frequently seen in adult life. Any part of the skeleton can be involved, but a trend exists in favor of bones with persistent bone marrow. We report a case of PLB with an unusual presentation: involvement of the proximal phalanx of the thumb. Treatment with cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisone (CHOP) plus etoposide established complete remission. Consolidation with radiotherapy of the femur and phalanx was performed. There was no evidence of recurrence at the 14 th month follow-up.

Abstract: Accounting in Brazil has experienced changes in legislation, resulting in several changes in the set of financial statements. The objective of this research was to identify the domain of students of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the state of Bahia before the changes caused in the financial statements following the recent Accounting legislation. The methodology adopted in this study was exploratory with a quantitative approach, in which a questionnaire was used as a research tool, composed of 16 statements that addressed the changes in the financial statements on the current Accounting nature legislation. Assertion addressed the major changes in the financial statements. Students participated in the survey of 62 campuses of Bahia IES. 212 responses that did not tend to normality using a Descriptive Statistics with chi-square test were analyzed. Finally, we applied the t-Student Hypothesis Test. The research concluded that the students of Bahian HEIs did not have domain about the changes in the financial statements by Law No. 11,638 (Brazil, 2007) and 11,941 (Brazil, 2009). Therefore, it is believed that this study contributes to awaken Bahian HEIs that have the Accounting course, to assess the need to adopt measures to change the reality reached, the negative performance of their students.

Economia Aplicada , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-80502010000200007
Abstract: in brazil there are always discussions about the number of representatives in the federal camera, with indications of sub or super representativeness. this discussion has political and economic value because an amount of the public resources is defined in this body and it can be linked to the effective power of the states, which can be measured by the banzhaf index. a proposal, suggested by penrose, is analyzed for brazilian states and regions. application shows that, for the current as for the penrose system, the most favored region is the southeast. from the viewpoint of states, it is noticed that are those more developed and populous that possess larger voting power in both situations.

Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering , 2010, DOI: 10.1155/2010/819729
Abstract: We study the impact of scheduling algorithms on the provision of multiple services in the long term evolution (LTE) system. In order to measure how well the services are provided by the system, we use the definition of joint system capacity. In this context, we claim that scheduling strategies should consider the current satisfaction level of each service and the offered load to the system by each service. We propose a downlink-scheduling strategy according to these ideas named capacity-driven resource allocation (CRA). The CRA scheduler dynamically controls the resource sharing among flows of different services such as delay-sensitive and rate demanding ones. Moreover, CRA scheduler exploits the channel-quality knowledge to utilize the system resources efficiently. Simulation results in a multicell scenario show that the CRA scheduler is robust regarding channel quality knowledge and that it provides significant gains in joint system capacity in single and mixed service scenarios.
