Revista Brasileira de Zootecnia , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-35982007000500011
Abstract: an experiment was conduced with the objective of evaluating the effects of diet formulation methods and supplementation of ractopamine (rac) on the performance and carcass characteristics of finishing barrows. sixty commercial hybrid swines were used, distributed in a randomized experimental block design, in a 2 x 3 factorial arrangment, with two levels of rac and three methods of diet formulation. supplementation with rac improved the final weight, daily weight gain (dwg) and feed conversion (fc) of the finishing barrows. addition of rac improved also the carcass characteristics by reducing the backfat thickness in point p1 and increase daily lean meat deposition rate. diets formulated based in the concept of ideal protein or by the increase of soybean meal provided better results on fc, but did not influence significantly daily feed intake, dwg and carcass characteristics. finishing barrows supplemented with rac during 21 or 28 days showed better performance and carcass quality. diets formulated to attend the levels of digestible lysine by the inclusion of l-lysine hcl with the adjustment of other amino acids for ideal protein relation (ideal protein) or by the greater inclusion of soybean meal (increase of cp) provided better results of feed conversion in finishing borrows supplemented with rac during 28 days.

Abstract: an experiment was carried out with the objective of evaluating the effect of different lysine levels in diets supplemented or not with ractopamine (rac) on the performance and carcass characteristics of finishing barrows. forty commercial hybrid swines were distributed to a randomized experimental block design, in a 2 x 2 factorial arrangement, with two digestible lysine levels (0.67 and 0.87%), with adjustment for the others amino acids to achieve an ideal protein relationship, and two levels of rac (0 and 5.0 ppm) in a period of 28 days. supplementation with rac resulted in a higher daily weight gain and of daily lean meat deposition rate, and better feed conversion. the lysine levels did not affect the performance of the animals, however there was a reduction of backfat thickness on p1 and p2 points and increased the daily lean meat deposition rate on the carcass of swine fed with diets containing 0.87% of digestible lysine when in vivo evaluated. in conclusion, performance and carcass characteristics of swine fed with diets supplemented with rac in the finishing phase improved; however the effect of rac on the loin depth was higher for the higher level of 0.87% of digestible lysine.

Por que morrem os cortadores de cana?
Alves, Francisco;

Abstract: the objective of this paper was to demonstrate that deaths of sugar-cane cutters in brazil are caused by the payment rules in this sector. the productive and labor processes now instituted in the brazilian sugar-cane sector had the aim of increasing productivity of labor and the main form of payment is per production. this results in the increase of the worker's efforts during the labor process. the increase of energy and effort spent by the workers to cut sugar-cane has become too depreciating for the workers, and, in the limit, is causing the death of such workers or their early loss of labor capacity.
Eleutherococcus senticosus: Studies and effects  [PDF]

Health (Health) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/health.2013.59205

Ginseng is one of the most popular herbal supplements in the world. It is a plant widely used in folk and traditional medicines for cardiovascular, immune, nervous and endocrine systems, and according to the researchers, it has the ability to increase the non-specific resistance state, which characterizes it as an adaptogenic substance. There are different species of ginseng, such as the American, Chinese, Korean and Japanese ginseng; the Korean species (Panax ginseng) is being used for thousands of years as a tonic, prophylactic and “restorative” agent, with powerful antioxidant properties. For a long time, its use was empirical, because people used to believe that it was a panacea that promoted longevity, with beneficial effects for the treatment of physical fatigues. Nowadays, the active components of Eleutherococcus senticosus are well described, however, there are no data on the quantity of a certain class of these secondary compounds produced in each species. Although the Eleutherococcus senticosus extract may contain several substances, including vitamins, minerals, cellulose, and ethanol, the substances responsible for inducing various physiological responses are the eleutherosides (in the root) and ciwujianosides (in the leaf). As Eleutherococcus senticosus receives great attention by showing that its active components can provide protection against oxidative stress, among other benefits, contributing to health and the prevention and treatment of diseases, such as diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease and inflammation. The purpose of this article is to describe the main, adverse and toxicological effects of

Pesticides Exposure: The Case of Workers on Growing Grapes in San Francisco Valley, Petrolina/Brazil  [PDF]
Francisco Alves Pinheiro, Paulo José Adissi
Agricultural Sciences (AS) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/as.2014.510085

The objective of this work is to analyze the systems of application of pesticides used in harvesting grapes of the sub-medium San Francisco valley, in relation to the risks of occupational contamination. The manual, mechanized and semi mechanized systems of application, adopted by the grape growers of the city of Petrolina/PE, have been analyzed through a method of both quantitative and qualitative evaluation. In such a way, two production units were visited: a mid-sized company and another one from of the CODEVASF. Five simulations were carried out in four systems of pesticide application using the European entire body method. Pre-application processes, such as storage and dilution of pesticides, as well as post-application processes, including equipment maintenance, cleaning and storage of clothes used for the application process were also analyzed. The results show large differences in risk among the systems that were analyzed and better conditions offered by the agricultural company, which was seeking to obtain the certification process.

Abstract: writing skills of communication students have had little attention from researchers. it has been aimed to test efficiency of a programed material based on teaching personalized system about written language for university students at the second grade in social communication, enphasizing the text teaching - leaming in academic levei. the results showed quality improvement for most individuals. this fact made us conclude that the sctructure of the applied material was positive to the individuals, but the time (10 days) was not enough for a change in the use of techniques in dissertative writings and for elimination of difficulties in the preceeding levels. remedy courses on reading and writing are suggested.
Efeito de diferentes substratos e condi??es ambientais na germina??o de sementes de Euterpe edulis Mart. e Geonoma schottiana Mart
Aguiar, Francismar Francisco Alves;
Acta Botanica Brasilica , 1990, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-33061990000300001
Abstract: two species of the family palmae: euterpe edulis mart, (palmiteiro) and geonoma schottiana mart, (guaricanga), both potentially ornamental and threatened by extinction, are being studied for seed germination. tests were undertaken in different environmental conditions (greenhouse and laboratory) and substrates (organic soil, sand, green sphagnum moss, dry, ground spahgnum and vermiculite). the effect of environmental conditions and substrates upon the germination of seeds was evaluated by the percentage germination and rate of germination (v.g.) percentages. the best substrate for the germination of euterpe edulis mart., in greenhouse was green sphagnum moss. under controlled conditions (25oc and 12 hours photoperiod), the best substrate for germination of both species investigated was vermiculite.
"Sua casinha é meu palácio": por uma concep??o dialógica de referencia??o
Alves Filho, Francisco;
Linguagem em (Dis)curso , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1518-76322010000100010
Abstract: much has been discussed about the inconsistency of the empirical referent and the need to use a processual conception of referentiation. however, the processual perspective presents inconsistencies because it does not use a methodology that really analyzes the discourse and does not take into account the dialectical perspective that involves referential stability and instability. this article aims at discussing the relations between the notions of dialogism and referentiation, trying to investigate under which circumstances one can say referentiation has a dialogical nature. the analysis tries to correlate the lexicogrammar choices to refer to the social voices that orient them, so that one can explain the discourse objects. the study indicates that the notion of referential instability can be better understood when one sees it in correlation to referential stability, since the lexicogrammatical changes found in texts can indicate not only referential instability but also referential stability.
O pé biográfico e a constitui??o da autoria em artigos de jornal
Alves Filho, Francisco;
Linguagem em (Dis)curso , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1518-76322008000200007
Abstract: this study aims at observing the constitution of authorship in newspaper articles when this constitution is produced by the article writers themselves, especially through the working out modes of 'biographic footnotes'. the corpus is composed of articles published in the newspapers o dia, meio norte and diário do povo, all of which circulate in the brazilian states of maranh?o and piauí. two regularities emerged from the researched materials: the fact that the same author creates different 'biographical footnotes' for his/her signed articles and the occurrence of 'biographic footnotes' containing data that emerge from and refer to the texts themselves. the constitution of authorship, as seen in the articles studied, points out to cultural traces of the social place where the newspapers circulate, one of the most important of them being the high value given to the academic degrees held by the article writers.
