Abstract: female genital ulcer is a disease that affects a large number of women, and its etiologic diagnosis can be difficult. the disease may increase the risk of acquiring hiv. genital ulcer may be present in sexually transmitted diseases (std) - syphilis, chancroid, genital herpes, donovanosis, lymphogranuloma venereum and other non-std disorders (nstd) - beh?et's syndrome, pemphigus, crohn's disease, erosive lichen planus and others. this study evaluated the clinical-histopathologic-microbiologic characteristics of female genital ulcers. a cross-sectional descriptive prospective study was conducted during a six-month period to investigate the first 53 women without a definitive diagnosis, seeking medical care for genital ulcers at a genital infections outpatient facility in a university hospital. a detailed and specific history was taken, followed by a dermatologic and gynecologic examination. in addition to collecting material from the lesions for microbiologic study, a biopsy of the ulcer was performed for histopathologic investigation. the average age of the patients was 32.7 years, 56.6% had junior high school education and higher education. the most frequent etiology was herpetic lesion, followed by auto-immune ulcers. at the time of their first consultation, around 60% of the women were using inadequate medication that was inconsistent with the final diagnosis. histologic diagnosis was conclusive in only 26.4% of the patients (14/53). cure was obtained in 99% of the cases after proper therapy. the female genital ulcers studied were equally distributed between sexually transmitted and non-sexually transmitted causes. herpes was the most frequent type of genital ulcer, affecting women indiscriminately, mostly between the ages of 20 and 40 years. the etiologic diagnosis of herpetic ulcers is difficult to make even when various diagnostic methods are applied. it is imperative that nstd should be included in the differential diagnoses of female genital ulcers. the histo

Revista Cultura y Religión , 2008,
Abstract: The aim of this article is to carry on a comparative analysis of two missionary activities with deaf people in Brazil, namely, Baptist Churches linked to the Brazilian Baptist Convention and Igreja Internacional da Gra a de Deus (IIGD), in its temple headquarters. In this comparison, we will analyze the way this two protestant experiences shape categories such as deafness and cure. Firstly, we shall analyze the logic of the missionary practices at Baptists churches, in which the cure of deafness is understood as both a metaphor of conversion and a diacritical sign of a so-called “unreached people”. Secondly, we analyze the practice of IIGD, where the search for the biological cure of deafness seems to be the main reason of insertion of deaf people in this institution. Our goal is to demonstrate the different meanings that deafness and cure have in the relations which are established among the agents who configure these practices. Such meanings inform us about broader social and political processes.

Abstract: Thirty six lambs were used, with twelve of each genotype: Santa Inês, Dorper-Santa Inês e White Dorper-Santa Inês were slaughtered with 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0mm of subcutaneous fat thickness. They were evaluated through ultrasound to verify the effect of the genotype and fat thickness on the performance, economic yield and carcass characteristics. The weight gain was greater for Dorper-Santa Inês (0.311kg/day) and White Dorper-Santa Inês (0.319kg/day). The final live weight was lower for the animals slaughtered with 2.0mm (26.20kg), intermediate for those with 2.5mm (28.23kg) and higher for those slaughtered with 3.0mm (32.00kg). The variables: weight gain, ration intake and confinement period were higher for the lambs slaughtered with 3.0 mm. The confinement of the White Dorper-Santa Inês (R$2,301.60) and Dorper-Santa Inês lambs (R$1,911.75) resulted in larger net income than that of the Santa Inês (R$856.60). The Dorper-Santa Inês and White Dorper-Santa Inês lambs had better productive performance. The confinement of the Dorper-Santa Inês and White Dorper-Santa Inês lambs, as well as the slaughter with 3.0mm of fat thickness, result in greater income. Carcasses of White Dorper-Santa Inês lambs had better conformation than those Santa Inês and lambs slaughtered at 3.0mm of fat thickness had a greater fat cover in the carcass. As carca as de cordeiros White Dorper-Santa In
