Justicia global, pobreza y mortalidad materna
Cáceres M,Flor de María;
Revista Facultad Nacional de Salud Pública , 2010,
Abstract: global justice is currently situated in an ambiance of tension and debate, facing a series of statements attempting to explain relationships among countries, based on the background of agreements already accomplished by supranational agencies. this network of relationships, not always fair nor equitable, has resulted in an increased accumulation of wealth in just a few hands and poverty in a growing number of people in poor countries and geographic areas with restrictions to access both to resources and to technological and scientific advances. poverty, exclusion and inequalities limit all together the opportunities for development in these communities, with the outcome of serious consequences such as the deterioration in basic indicators of development. maternal mortality rate (mm) is considered a sentinel indicator since it belongs in most cases to premature deaths which would be avoidable through proper measures in education, health promotion and timely access to quality health services. the purpose of this essay is to defend the thesis that the lack of global justice has limited the scope of the goals related to poverty and mm reduction.
Risk factors to non-compliance with TB treatment.
Flor de María Cáceres
MedUNAB , 2004,
Abstract: Tuberculosis (TB),at present declared as a world emergency, faces a very importantobstacle for their control which is the abandonment of treatment. It′salso called “no compliance”, no adherence, or, simply, the “patientmisses his medication”. This has a serious consequences as forthe sick person,as wells as for the community, because the patientis not treated and the transmission chain continues; in addition,the bacteria may develops resistance to current medications. Thiswill Increases treatment costs, as well as, patient morbidity andmortality. The abandonment rates in the world are reported, being,among 0 to 85%. For 1995, WHO reported a general proportion ofabandonment for the Americas, being of 6%;. In Colombia, we have aregistered 24% of abandonment between the years of 1982 to 1983and 10% among 1988 to 1989. These rates are above the WHO′sexpectations which are less than 5%. The abandonment associatedwith high incidence becomes a problem for public health of such asbig dimensions. In this article we discuss the epidemiology of noncompliance, the risk factors related with the patient, the patient’streatment, the social environment and the health services.

Creative act: Metaphor, act, metamorphosis… Abstract The image has a function of veil, of translucent surface in the presence of death. Just like the inaugural metaphor founds the speaker’s universe, the image establishes the bar of repression while pointing at what founds it. In the creative act, the constitution of the metaphoric image would function as a device that, starting from an act of the subject and the incision this one creates, reorients the subject towards a reconstruction, a new structuration correlated to the created object. Keywords: metaphor, act, creation, image, emptiness.
Yépez,Florángel; Arboleda,María Elena;
Bioagro , 2009,
Abstract: the selection of the suitable species is fundamental for the forestry of cities; however, the supply of appropriate ornamental trees suitable for tropical conditions is scarce; so it is important to develop the most convenient production techniques. the objective of this investigation was to evaluate the effects of different pre-germinative treatments on the plantlet emergency, following the germination of pink orchid tree (bauhinia monandra kurz) and yellow oleander (thevetia peruviana (pers) schum). in pink orchid tree, treatments of soaking the seeds in hot water and sulphuric acid for different times were evaluated, along with mechanical scarification in electric blender for two different times, and a control of intact seeds. in yellow oleander, the treatments were partial or total mechanical removal of epicarp, along with a control consisting in the intact fruits. two experiments (one for each species) were established in completely randomized design with four replications and 75 seeds per plot. emergency curves were developed, and the beginning time of the process (ti), number of days to 50 % of total emergency (te50) and the lapse between the occurrence of 10 and 90 % of emergency (te10-90) were determined. in pink orchid tree the chemical scarification with sulphuric acid by 5 minutes of soaking favored the emergence (95.6 %) and the speed of the process (1 day for te10-90), whereas the treatments with hot water did not allow any emergency. in seeds of yellow oleander, the complete removal of pericarp allowed a maximum of 61.6 % emergence, while very low values were found when using intact fruits.
Cáceres,Flor de María; Orozco,Luis Carlos;
Biomédica , 2007,
Abstract: incidence of and factors for non-compliance to antituberculous treatment introduction. tuberculosis is a public health problem. non-compliance with treatment regimes increases morbidity-mortality, perpetuates transmission and generates bacterial resistance. it is necessary to know incidence and associated factors to non-compliance for performance interventions. objective. the incidence of and associated factors associated with non-compliance to antituberculous treatment were investigated. materials and methods. a follow-up study was conducted in an adult cohort with tuberculosis, living in an urban area. non-compliance was defined as treatment default of 30 days or more. patients were interviewed at the initiation of treatment and and re-interviewed in subsequent intervals. outcome was defined as the period of time until treatment abandonment. non-compliance rates were calculated, as well as survival curves; the cox regression model was used to adjust for associated variables. results. of the 261 patients who were interviewed, 39 (14.9%) had abandoned treatment (rate 0.4 episodes/1,000 days-person, 95%ci 0.2-0.8). factors associated with compliance were family support (hr=0.4, 95%ci 0.2-0.9), secondary drug effects (hr=0.2, 95%ci 0.1-0.6) and opportunity to receive treatment at the clinic where tuberculosis was diagnosed (hr=0.3, 95%ci 0.1-0.6). risk factors for non-compliance were as follows: treatment requiring >2 months (hr=14.3, 95%ci 1.8-112.7), low socioeconomic status (hr=3.90, 95%ci 2.1-9.3), age between 21-30 years (hr=20.6, 95%ci 2.4-175.4), history of incarceration (hr=2.2, 95%ci 1.0-5.4), skipping treatments more that twice (hr=6.6, 95%ci 2.8-15.6) and co-infection with hiv/aids (hr=2.9, 95%ci 1.6-5.4). conclusion. non-compliance rate is higher than previously reported. the data recommend the following strategies for improving compliance with antituberculosis treatment: (1) early diagnosis, (2) opportune treatment, (3) improved family support and (4) imm
