Traditional Material Resources versus Digital Resources: The Choice of Information Sources of the FCMS Nursing Interns  [PDF]
Rino S. de Sagun, William D. Taala, Filoteo B. Franco Jr., Rock P. Cordero
Creative Education (CE) , 2019, DOI: 10.4236/ce.2019.104049
Abstract: This paper?seeks to determine the choice of information source among FCMS nursing interns using the three-dimensional?evaluation method namely; reliability, accessibly and purpose between the traditional and digital resources. Appropriate cross tabulations were used in the study to present the results using actual numbers, percentages and means. The results showed that there is no significant difference on the perception among respondents with regard to reliability, accessibility and purpose of the traditional and digital sources of information albeit that digital resource has just been recently introduced in the kingdom. Furthermore, the study also presented the respondent’s perception?on?the relationship of the two sources of information, specifically books and the Internet. The respondents mostly answered “highly accepted” as indicated by the high averages with a mean score nearly 5.
Library Literacy Program: Library as Battleground for Fighting Fakenews  [PDF]
William Taala, Filoteo B. Franco Jr., Parisa H. Sta. Teresa
Open Access Library Journal (OALib Journal) , 2019, DOI: 10.4236/oalib.1105296
Abstract:
Library literacy programs have continued to play a pivotal role in ensuring that students only consume the information necessary to their studies in the wake of fake news. Before the introduction of the Internet as an information tool, fake news was dealt with amicably before reaching out to numerous persons. Nevertheless, the advent of the Internet has contributed to the spread of fake news to unparalleled levels. Educational institutions of higher learning should ensure that their literacy programs meet the required threshold and equip the learners with prerequisite skills to differentiate between fake news and factual academic content as well as promote a reading culture and critical thinking skills. The research paper also highlights the medical student situation in Saudi Arabia that has been transformed from five institutions to approximately 21 institutions illustrating the need for library literacy skills to students in the quest to improve the quality of medical studies in the country. Cognizant of the fake journals accessed at the click of a button with unlimited access, the need for library literacy programs is timely. The social, economic and political development of a country highly depends on the educational competence of its population. For this reason, countries across the world have continued to allocate a substantial amount of money towards educational development by opening up new academic facilities as well as enhancing teacher population.
Impact of Saudi Digital Library (SDL) to Saudi Research Output: A Review  [PDF]
William Taala, Filoteo B. Franco Jr., Rino S. De Sagun
Open Access Library Journal (OALib Journal) , 2019, DOI: 10.4236/oalib.1105331
Abstract:
A paper that has hypothetically illustrated the need for the digital libraries in modern learning environments primarily because of their reach effectiveness in the dwindling physical space available. In essence, the utilization of digital li-braries in Saudi Arabia has opened more room for research thus ensuring that students are properly informed while compiling academic content. It further focused on the positive impacts as well as the negative to illustrate the needs to further improve the said digital space. To date the Saudi Digital Library fondly called to locals as SDL has revolutionized researching inside the kingdom making it at par with other first world countries in spite of late coming.

Laner B. Rosa, Cesar Bataglion, Selma Siéssere, Marcelo Palinkas, Wilson Mestriner Jr., Osvaldo de Freitas, Moara de Rossi, Lígia Franco de Oliveira, Simone C. H. Regalo
Open Journal of Stomatology (OJST) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/ojst.2012.21004
Abstract: Objective: This study was analyzed adult individuals rehabilitated with different types of dentures, with the purpose of verifying the effect that different types of denture rehabilitation have on maximal bite force and masticatory efficiency. The aim of this study is to facilitate diagnosis and prognosis, bringing contributions to the quality and stability of treatments Materials and Methods: Fifty individuals were divided into five groups: one control group with ten dentate individuals and another four groups formed according to the type of rehabilitation treatment. Maximal bite force was recorded on the first molar regions, and masticatory efficiency rates were recorded on the right, left and habitual sides. Results: Data related to the maximal bite force recordings were statistically significant across the analyzed groups [ANOVA for p ≤ 0.01]. The data related to masticatory efficiency rates also showed statistical significance across all groups [ANOVA for p ≤ 0.05] in the three tested conditions [mastication on the right, left and habitual sides]. Conclusion: The group of individuals rehabilitated with implants and single crowns showed greater bite force values and masticatory efficiency rates compared to the other groups, and the treatment with implantsupported mandibular overdenture improved the function compared to conventional complete dentures, thus evincing that the stomatognathic system has different functional behaviors depending on the type of oral rehabilitation.

Disability, Social Policy and the Burden of Disease: Creating an “Assertive” Community Mental Health System in New York  [PDF]
Mark B. Borg, Jr.
Psychology (PSYCH) , 2010, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2010.12018
Abstract: One conclusion of the decade-long epidemiological Global Burden of Disease Project is that five of the top 10 disease “burdens” the world will face by 2020 will be related to mental disabilities. Therefore, developing social policy and community responses to the ways that people with mental disabilities are treated is becoming an important focus for community practitioners, political activists and legislators. The author explores some of the dynamics of our culture’s approach to dealing with difference, especially when manifested in disenfranchized individuals. He discusses a community development project created by a New York City advocacy and social policy organization following the 1999 murder of a woman by an individual whose mental health disability was never treated. Parallels are drawn between the civil rights and community mental health movements, which created a precedent for the 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act. Also examined are the ways in which community mental health systems manifest social policy that alternately resists, repeats and colludes with power operations. The unexamined assumptions that drive this dynamic are examined as ableism or disability oppression.

Jornal de Pediatria , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S0021-75572003000100016
Abstract: objective: to discuss clinical signs, diagnostic tools and therapeutics of anterior urethral valves, an obstructive anomaly of the urinary system in males. description: signs of urinary tract obstruction were identified on pre-natal ultrasound in two male fetuses and the diagnosis of anterior urethral valves was made through post-natal evaluation. as an initial treatment, vesicostomy was performed in both patients. later, the valves were fulgurated using an endoscopic procedure. during the follow-up period both patients presented normal renal function. comments: anterior urethral valves are a rare form of urethral anomaly that must be ruled out in boys with pre-natal ultrasound indicating infravesical obstruction. vesicostomy used as an initial treatment rather than transurethral fulguration may prevent potential complications that can occur due to the small size of the neonatal urethra.
