El sistema ferroviario en el noroeste argentino: Arquitectura e instalaciones complementarias

Abstract: as in many countries of the world the railway was in argentina, in the late nineteenth century, the main agent of change in the territory. especially in northwest argentina, it was installed a system of settlements that produced an important impact at the geographic, urban - territorial, political, economic and social level. the last link in this system was the architecture and complementary buildings that allowed the development of new spaces to perform the functions of loading and unloading of raw materials and the rise and drop off passengers. it was one of the new nineteenth-century architectural programs, and perhaps the most variety of scales and types reached.this study identifies the types of architecture, functional elements and components of the railway system in the different seasons of the provinces. as a result we give the architectural features of the system as a model employed, who was part of a functional interconnection. the research was based on a fieldwork and consultation of disjointed railway files, interviews with key informants and the preparation of an inventory of railway architecture in which we has been detected 208 stations in the region.
Los asentamientos urbanos producidos por la instalación del ferrocarril en el noroeste argentino

Abstract: the impact produced by the railway in the argentina territory has no similarities in history, before or since. the occupation model involved a new spatial ordination based on the insertion of an extractive network for economic purposes. this work responds to an analysis of the settlement emerged as a result of the installation of the railway in the northwest of argentina, the urban structure that have the new towns and the urban transformation of existing towns and cities. the settlement system is explained by an urban phenomenon that involves two aspects: the form, -referring to the morphology of the urban weft- and function -related with the activities that took place in the towns that were born as a result of railway network-. as results we have obtained the components of the settlement system as a model employee. the research was based on fieldwork carried out over 200 railway stations in the argentina northwest region comprising the provinces of tucumán, salta, jujuy, santiago del estero, and catamarca. we have also worked with various documentary sources such as census mapping, satellite photography, provincial legislation and current maps from the late nineteenth century.

Microstructural and Mechanical Characterization after Thermomechanical Treatments in 6063 Aluminum Alloy  [PDF]

Abstract: The aim of this work is the mechanical and microstructural characterization by optical and electron microscopy as well as microhardness of Al 6063 alloy after mechanical and thermal treatment. Al-Mg based alloys have special attention due to the lightness of the material and certain mechanical properties and recyclability. Such alloys produce good mechanical properties in moderate mechanical efforts (up to 700 MPa) and good resistance to the corrosion. Cold rolling steps (30%, 60% and 90% in area reduction) in Al 6063 alloy were employed for the recrystallization studies, followed by thermal treatment using four isothermal heating (423K, 523K, 623K and 723K) during 1800, 3600, 5400 and 7200s. The direct observation and chemical microanalysis were made in a JEOL200C and JEOL2010 transmission electron microscopes combined with mechanical characterization utilizing Vickers microhardness measurements. Normally classified as non-heat-treatable these alloys obtain higher strength either by strain-hardening or by solid solution. The nucleation of new grains is a non stability of the deformed microstructure, depending on subgrain size heterogeneities present as potential embryos in the deformed state adjacent to high local misorientation. The results indicate a significant effect of second-phase particles on recrystallization and how to control the resulting microstructure and texture by the use of particles. It may be a preferential growth in the early stage due to their local environment or a selection of certain orientations from among those produced by particles stimulated nucleation or a preferential nucleation at particles in favored sites such as grain boundaries.
Opal-Based Photonic Crystal Heterostructures  [PDF]

Abstract: The fabrication of photonic crystal heterostructures is important for the applications in the fields of integrated photonic crystal chips and multi-frequency optical Bragg filters or mirrors; here we report on the fabrication and characterization of opal-based photonic crystal heterostructures. These heterostructures are created by using multilayer deposition of silica and polystyrene spheres. In the specific the fabricated structures involved both different lattice constant and dielectric function. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and VIS-NIR transmittance and reflectance spectroscopy are used to characterize the systems. The SEM images show good ordering of the two-layer colloidal crystals constituting the heterostructures. The transmittance and reflectance spectra measured from the (111) plane of the heterostructure show that the composite colloidal photonic crystals have double photonic stop bands that matches the stop bands of the individual photonic crystals. This behaviour can be seen as a superposition of the properties of each individual layer.
Die vasodilatatorischen Eigenschaften von Testosteron

Abstract: Bei M nnern besteht ein erh htes Risiko für die Entwicklung einer koronaren Herzerkrankung. Frauen hingegen besitzen bis zur Menopause einen Schutz. Dies führte zu der Hypothese, dass sich Androgene nachteilig auf die Entwicklung einer koronaren Herzerkrankung, aber auch auf die Entwicklung einer arteriellen Hypertonie auswirken. Testosteron besitzt interessanterweise wie strogene eine vasodilatatorische Wirkung. Diese wird aber, im Gegensatz zu den strogenen, nicht durch Stickstoffmonoxid vermittelt. Diese vasodilatatorische Eigenschaft wird akut induziert. Der Mechanismus scheint aber nicht über die klassischen Androgenrezeptoren vermittelt zu sein, viel mehr werden wahrscheinlich Testosteron-abh ngige Kalium- oder Kalziumkan le aktiviert. Klinisch konnte nachgewiesen werden, dass die akute Gabe von Testosteron ST-Streckensenkungen bei Patienten mit Angina pectoris mindert. Auch die chronische Testosteronverabreichung führt zu verbesserten Angina-freien Laufstrecken bei Patienten mit koronarer Herzerkrankung. Studien müssen zeigen, ob Testosterongaben zu einer symptomatischen oder prognostischen Verbesserung der koronaren Herzerkrankung bei m nnlichen Patienten führen.
Co-doped Ceria: Tendency towards ferromagnetism driven by oxygen vacancies

Abstract: We perform an electronic structure study for cerium oxide homogeneously-doped with cobalt impurities, focusing on the role played by oxygen vacancies and structural relaxation. By means of full-potential ab-initio methods, we explore the possibility of ferromagnetism as observed in recent experiments. Our results indicate that oxygen vacancies seem to be crucial for the appearance of a ferromagnetic alignment among Co impurities, obtaining an increasing tendency towards ferromagnetism with growing vacancy concentration. The estimated couplings cannot explain though, the experimentally observed room-temperature ferromagnetism. In this systematic study, we draw relevant conclusions regarding the location of the oxygen vacancies and the magnetic couplings involved. In particular, we find that oxygen vacancies tend to nucleate in the neighborhood of Co impurities and we get a remarkably strong ferromagnetic coupling between Co atoms and the Ce^{3+} neighboring ions. The calculated magnetic moments per cell depend on the degree of reduction which could explain the wide spread in the magnetization values observed in the experiments.
