Analysis of Wavelet Compression and Seam Carving Using the Hausdorf Distance  [PDF]
S. Fernando, R. Wijesiriwardana
Journal of Computer and Communications (JCC) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/jcc.2016.43006
Abstract:

In this paper image quality of two types of compression methods, wavelet based and seam carving based are investigated. A metric is introduced to compare the image quality under wavelet and seam carving schemes. Meyer, Coiflet 2 and Jpeg2000 wavelet based methods are used as the wavelet based methods. Hausdorf distance based metric (HDM) is proposed and used for the comparison of the two compression methods instead of model based matching techniques and correspondence-based matching techniques, because there is no pairing of points in the two sets being compared. In addition entropy based metric (EM) or peak signal to noise ration based metric (PSNRM) cannot be used to compare the two schemes as the seam carving tends to deform the objects. The wavelet compressed images with different compression percentages were analyzed with HDM and EM and it was observed that HDM follows the EM/PSNRM for wavelet based compression methods. Then HDM is used to compare the wavelet and seam carved images for different compression percentages. The initial results showed that HDM is better metric for comparing wavelet based and seam carved images.

Las estrategias relacionales de los profesionales en Cali, Colombia: formas de regulación y mecanismos de protección
Sánchez,José Fernando;
Revista de Estudios Sociales , 2009,
Abstract: starting from the assumption that social relations serve a regulatory function, this article seeks to better understand three relational strategies among groups of professionals in cali, colombia -tight-knit groups, personal connections, and social contacts- and, by establishing the mechanism by which they operate, discern the meanings that actors endow them with and their consequences in the social structure. the essay is divided into four parts. the first discusses the theoretical foundation. the second provides an overview of the city where the study took place and the different kinds of risk that affect intermediate social groups. the third section describes the methodology of the investigation. the final part presents the results and conclusions of the study.
El hábito conceptual y la distinción entre los universales lógicos y reales según Tomás de Aquino
Sellés, Juan Fernando;
Diánoia , 2008,
Abstract: this paper defends that the act of the concept depends on the conceptual habit. the act of the concept knows two real causes of physical reality: material and formal. one of them, the formal cause, is the real universal (unum) which is present in a plurality of material subjects (in multis). the real universal is different from the logical universal. the habit does not know of causes, but the acts of the concept. so, it permits to distinguish between the act of knowledge that knows the real universal and the act that knows the logical universal.
Las dualidades de la educación
Sellés,Juan Fernando;
Educación y Educadores , 2007,
Abstract: this paper claims that the study method of human education cannot not assume that man is a single entity, as man is composed by multiple dualities. education is framed within radical human realities. first, a distinction is made between act of being and essence. after showing the dualities of the act of being human (or transcendental dualities) and those of essence, the paper highlights the dualities: education-personal love, education-family, male-female, masculine education-feminine education, parents-children and the consequent dualities: paternal-filial, home-school, educate-learn, enterprise-university and finally human personal education-divine personal education.
La educación de la amistad: una aproximación conceptual
Sellés,Juan Fernando;
Educación y Educadores , 2008,
Abstract: this study looks at method, topic and education with respect to the supreme human virtue: friendship. it begins with a review of the fundamental theories put forth by the prominent thinkers in the history of philosophy. secondly, it indicates the appropriate cognitive method for the study of friendship is not rational, but akin to that of an innate habit (synderesis or the ego). some of the non-ethical implications of this approach are outlined. the requirements for friendship in its two most important environments (family and education) are discussed, and the author offers a thesis on how to educate students in this virtue.
Los documentos y archivos: Una necesaria revisión histórica para afrontar el reto de la e-administración pública
Sabés Turmo,Fernando;
Enlace , 2008,
Abstract: the transformation of traditional government towards egovernment bears noteworthy consequences in several areas, as in documents and files. the creation of electronic documents and files shades doubt over many requirements of hard-copy documents or files. this paper will analyse the historical reviews of creation and conservation of documents and files, as well as the changes and problems brought about by the emergence of egovernment. this research will present a historical overview of both terms until the arrival of telematic transformation. since this analysis will be carried out in spain, definitions as for document and file will be those approved by the bill 11/2007, 22nd june, of citizen?s e-access to public services, one of the many bills passed as to launch egovernment in spain. in any case, favouring egovernment brings about a substantial change in the historical definition of document and file, as issues such as authenticity, unity, preservation... may shed doubt on the new digital era as a whole.
