Sánchez,José Fernando;
Revista de Estudios Sociales , 2009,
Abstract: starting from the assumption that social relations serve a regulatory function, this article seeks to better understand three relational strategies among groups of professionals in cali, colombia -tight-knit groups, personal connections, and social contacts- and, by establishing the mechanism by which they operate, discern the meanings that actors endow them with and their consequences in the social structure. the essay is divided into four parts. the first discusses the theoretical foundation. the second provides an overview of the city where the study took place and the different kinds of risk that affect intermediate social groups. the third section describes the methodology of the investigation. the final part presents the results and conclusions of the study.
Entendiendo la insuficiencia cardíaca
Guadalajara Boo, José Fernando;
Archivos de cardiología de México , 2006,
Abstract: heart failure is a disease with several definitions. the term "heart failure" is used by has brougth about confusion in the terminology. for this reason, the value of the ejection fraction (< 0.40 or < 0.35) is used in most meganalyses on the treatment of heart failure, avoiding the term "heart failure" that is a confounding concept. in this paper we carefully analyze the meaning of contractility, ventricular function or performance, preload, afterload, heart failure, compensation mechanisms in heart failure, myocardial oxygen consumption, inadequate, adequate and inappropriate hypertrophy, systole, diastole, compliance, problems of relaxation, and diastolic dysfunction. their definitions are supported by the original scientific descriptions in an attempt to clarify the concepts about ventricular function and heart failure and, in this way, use the same scientific language about the meaning of ventricular function, heart failure, and diastolic dysfunction.
Lazzarini, José Fernando;
Bragantia , 1970, DOI: 10.1590/S0006-87051970000100029
Abstract: a study is presented regarding the relationship between cotton fiber and field properties and three responses: cotton yield yarn, strength and yarn appearance. fiber properties such as upper half mean length, length uniformity, strength and micronaire fineness, and other characteristics such as percent lint, weight of one boll and weigth of 100 seeds are studied in relation to cotton yield, yarn strength and yarn appearance. statiscal models were developed through multiple regression analyses to show the degree of relationship between three responses (cotton yield, yarn strength and appearance) and seven independent variables. multiple regression analyses were carried out to determine the order of importance of each independent variable in relation to a specific response. the 57 cotton strains and varieties used in this study were obtained from 9 locations troughout the state of s?o paulo, in a total of 801 samples.
Lazzarini, José Fernando;
Bragantia , 1967, DOI: 10.1590/S0006-87051967000100027
Abstract: the skein strength variations of cotton yarns are related to count and irregularity variations. the present study is based on a multiple regression analysis where the yarn strength is studied as a function of two independent variables: irregularity (u%) and yarn count. equations were developed to forecast yarn strength. it was found that the count variations are more important than irregularity variations in explaining yarn strength variations.
Arrigoni, Fernando José;
Verani, José Fernando;
Cadernos de Saúde Pública , 1990, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-311X1990000300011
Abstract: this debate was organized at the epidemiology department of the national school of public health (brazil) and took place on june 28, 1989. the main reasons and factors which led the world health assembly resolution to eradicate poliomyelitis from the globe were discussed. first, it was discussed the tremendous decline in roparalytic cases due to wild poliovirus infections as a result of the immunization coverage acceleration in the americas through the national immunization days strategy as complementary to routine immunizations. second, epidemiological surveillance improvements in the opv and in the social mobilization methods were considered to be key factors for the eradication to be achieved. third, it was also discussed the impacts of immunizations on the nutritional status of children in some brazilian areas. the discussion also considered the situation of the epi and the perspectives for polio eradication in various regions of the globe. the main issues raised at the debate were discussed under the lights of the experience learned from the global smallpox eradication program. finally, a discussion was held on the importance of disease eradication and its impacts on people's health conditions.
Barreto,José Fernando;
Colombia Médica , 2008,
Abstract: partial dental prosthesis is a very important field of dental rehabilitation process that usually is not well understood, mainly because it involves the repercussion on more than 10 of the 32 functions performed by the stomatognatic system. in order to fit several very important considerations about partial removable dental prosthesis design, some discernment about the need to consider factors that could affect the temporomandibular joint (tmj) are presented, particularly when the lack of teeth is unilateral or bilateral. it is necessary to take on account that stomatognatic system performs the mastication, the oral carbohydrate digestion, the vocalization and other functions that could change drastically when there are no sufficient posterior teeth. but this lack also affects two general functions: the dynamic balance and the listening capability. all of those factors are very important to formulate and to produce high quality removable dental prosthesis; therefore, this kind of work couldn't be performed by a simple dentist or by a dental prosthetic technician without a professional guidance. since this is a very important and complex assignment, this paper is the first of a four assay being oriented to improve the rehabilitation treatment of the masticatory system as a part of the stomatognatic system.
Quimeras, Centauros e a Quest?o da Consciência Animal: Comentário a Respeito do Artigo de César Ades
Ribeiro, Fernando José Leite;
Psicologia USP , 1997, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-65641997000200008
Abstract: it is to professor ades? credit that he took the pains to address the question of consciousness: the less it is discussed the more naive will be our notions about it. ades shows that there must be objective criteria to attribute properties to animals. otherwise, the animal of science will not be different from mythological hybrids. this note suggests, however, that as the reader follows the author?s skilful efforts to undo some of the knots of the problem, he may find himself entangled amidst new viscous threads, particulary the idea that there is a kind of consciousness which is unique to man
Sinopse de Huberia DC. (Melastomataceae: Merianieae)

Rocha, José Fernando Moura;
Revista Brasileira de Ensino de Física , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S1806-11172009000100013
Abstract: the concept of a field can motivate a rich class-forum about the basic notions of physics. despite its importance, only mathematical-conceptual aspects are emphasized in the classroom, leaving out historical-conceptual aspects. we believe that only the mathematical-conceptual presentation of this concept underestimates all its strength. we show in this paper how this physics concept can be introduced from two diferent but converging ways, first, we consider the notion of the field as something responsible for the mediation of interaction between bodies and then we treat it as a mathematical function of the coordinates and time. next, we show that, in a complex process, these two conceptions have been merged towards the concept of field as we understand it nowadays.
