Acta Scientiarum : Health Sciences , 2006,
This study aimed to evaluate the influence of the use of contraceptive methods, such as the intrauterine device (IDU), the hormonal contraceptive (HCP) and the preservative (PRESER), on the results of Papanicolaou smears (Pap). A retrospective analysis was conducted based on Papanicolau results and on information from2251 women's contraceptive methods, distributed in: IDU (n=80), HCP (n=172), PRESER (n=40) and non-users (n=1959). Non-users presented more normal results; and IDU users presented benign alterations. Among the three groups, the IDU users manifested more squaly squamous metaplasia than the non-users. There was no notice of ASCUS/SIL or cancer in the users of contraceptive methods. The infections withcandidiasis and bacterial vaginosis prevailed. Particularly in IDU users, there was more vaginosis. Actinomyces sp. was only noticed in IDU users, and Trichomonas vaginalis in nonusers. Thus, submitting to Pap examination is mainly important for the users of IDU and HCP due to the benign alterations, because these can be predisposed to and/or facilitate infections, including HPV.

Jornal Brasileiro de Pneumologia , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S1806-37132012000600016
Abstract: macrolides are drugs that have antimicrobial effects, especially against intracellular pathogens. various studies have shown that macrolides might also have anti-inflammatory effects. macrolides inhibit the production of interleukins and can reduce pulmonary neutrophilic inflammation. clinical trials have demonstrated beneficial effects of macrolides in various chronic lung diseases. the objective of this study was to review recent data in the medical literature on the anti-inflammatory effects of macrolides in childhood lung diseases by searching the medline (pubmed) database. we used the following search terms: "macrolide and cystic fibrosis"; "macrolide and asthma"; "macrolide and bronchiolitis obliterans"; and "macrolide and acute bronchiolitis". we selected articles published in international scientific journals between 2001 and 2012. clinical studies and in vitro evidence have confirmed the anti-inflammatory effect of macrolides in respiratory diseases. some clinical trials have shown the benefits of the administration of macrolides in patients with cystic fibrosis, although the risk of bacterial resistance should be considered in the analysis of those benefits. such benefits are controversial in other respiratory diseases, and the routine use of macrolides is not recommended. further controlled clinical trials are required in order to assess the efficacy of macrolides as anti-inflammatory drugs, so that the benefits in the treatment of each specific clinical condition can be better established.

Schochat, Eliane;Andrade, Adriana Neves de;Takeyama, Fernanda Colu?o;Oliveira, Juliana Casseb;Sanches, Seisse Gabriela Gandolfi;
Revista CEFAC , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-18462009000200017
Abstract: purpose: to check the concordance between the middle latency response and temporal processing tests. methods: 155 normal hearing subjects of both genders (age group range between 7 to 16 years) were evaluated with the pitch and duration pattern tests (behavioral) and middle latency response (electrophysiologic) and divided into two groups: normal and abnormal, according to their test results. results: among all subjects, 30% showed abnormality in the tests, except for the middle latency response that was under 17.4%. the pitch and duration patterns (right and left ears) agreed until 12 years of age. from 13 years, there was a greater number of alteration in the pitch patterns than in the duration patterns. the pitch and duration patterns (right and left ears) and mlr did not show concordance. for the 7 and 8-year-old group, the combination pitch and duration patterns normal/abnormal middle latency response had greater occurrence than the combination pitch and duration patterns abnormal / normal middle latency response. for the other groups the opposite occurred. there was not statistical difference among the age groups regarding normal and abnormal results for the pitch patterns (right and left ears) and middle latency response, the duration patterns showed more abnormal results for the 9, 10 years old group. conclusion: it was not possible to verify concordance between the middle latency response and behavioral evaluation of frequency and duration patterns test.
Dilatare la presenza del vivente: etiche ed estetiche dell’azione teatrale
Roberta Gandolfi
Ricerche di S/Confine , 2013,
Abstract: This essay looks at the path of theatres in natural environments within the more general context of experimentation in contemporary theatre. The hendiadys ‘city and country’ is assumed, in the first part,to question how they place themselves in the complex dynamics of the local and the global. The second part focuses on those devices that underpine their aesthetics: their strategies for expanding the perception of the living, beyond the human, sweep from the narrative level, to the mise-en-scène, to the level of corporeal presence.
For a metaphorical tool to evoke identity: the tomen
Enrico Gandolfi
Academicus : International Scientific Journal , 2013, DOI: 10.7336/academicus.2013.07.05
Abstract: In my contribution I want to investigate, from a theoretical point of view but also with methodological and practical consequences, the qualitative role of metaphor in social research. As tool able to improve and facilitate the visualization of complex ideas and states of mind, this rhetorical figure permits to obtain more information from interviewed people about topics hard to access in common interviews. This goal can be achieved by the build of the so called “tomen”, an artifact/experience design created by the subject(s) interviewed which represents a gate point from which explore hidden dimensions, individual as diffused. Furthermore, the metaphor offers a strong link to another concept that now in sociology needs an operative dimension, the game: a buzz word that I intend as social frame of experience positioned in an artificial setting, a “magic circle”, able to represent in its operations a collective metaphor which gives us enormous possibilities to configure and set the ground of analysis.

Princesa: The Textual Space Between Translation and Divergence
Gandolfi, Laura
Ellipsis , 2010,
Abstract: This article examines Princesa, a testimonial text in which Fernanda Farias de Albuquerque, a Brazilian transvestite who emigrated to Italy in the early 1990s, narrates her life, from her childhood and adolescence in Brazil and through her trip to Europe. In the Roman prison of Rebibbia, Fernanda meets Maurizio Jannelli, a former member of the Italian Red Brigades sentenced to life for crimes related to the fighting of the seventies, and Giovanni Tamponi, a Sardinian shepherd imprisoned for various armed robberies. Fernanda, Maurizio and Giovanni will give life to this peculiar and hybrid text, Princesa, considered one of the first examples of the so called “Italian literature of migration”.
The Auxiliary Field Diffusion Monte Carlo Method for Nuclear Physics and Nuclear Astrophysics
Stefano Gandolfi
Physics , 2007,
Abstract: In this thesis, I discuss the use of the Auxiliary Field Diffusion Monte Carlo method to compute the ground state of nuclear Hamiltonians, and I show several applications to interesting problems both in nuclear physics and in nuclear astrophysics. In particular, the AFDMC algorithm is applied to the study of several nuclear systems, finite, and infinite matter. Results about the ground state of nuclei ($^4$He, $^8$He, $^{16}$O and $^{40}$Ca), neutron drops (with 8 and 20 neutrons) and neutron rich-nuclei (isotopes of oxygen and calcium) are discussed, and the equation of state of nuclear and neutron matter are calculated and compared with other many-body calculations. The $^1S_0$ superfluid phase of neutron matter in the low-density regime was also studied.
Quantum Monte Carlo study of strongly interacting Fermi gases
Stefano Gandolfi
Physics , 2013, DOI: 10.1088/1742-6596/529/1/012011
Abstract: In recent years Quantum Monte Carlo techniques provided to be a valuable tool to study strongly interacting Fermi gases at zero temperature. We have used QMC methods to investigate several properties of the two-components Fermi gas at unitarity and in the BCS-BEC crossover, both with equal and unequal masses corresponding to the $Li-K$ Fermi mixture. In this paper we present several recent QMC results, including the energy at zero and finite effective range, the contact parameter and the static structure factor, which, at low momentum, depends strongly on the phonons in the unitary Fermi gas.
The equation of state of neutron star matter and the symmetry energy
Stefano Gandolfi
Physics , 2012, DOI: 10.1088/1742-6596/420/1/012150
Abstract: We present an overview of microscopical calculations of the Equation of State (EOS) of neutron matter performed using Quantum Monte Carlo techniques. We focus to the role of the model of the three-neutron force in the high-density part of the EOS up to a few times the saturation density. We also discuss the interplay between the symmetry energy and the neutron star mass-radius relation. The combination of theoretical models of the EOS with recent neutron stars observations permits us to constrain the value of the symmetry energy and its slope. We show that astrophysical observations are starting to provide important insights into the properties of neutron star matter.
