Psychology (PSYCH) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2014.59121

This present article was constructed from an empirical work of intervention-research in a support group for transgender people which worked at the Clínica de Psicologia Aplicada (CPA) [Applied Psychology Clinic] of the Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora (UFJF), in Minas Gerais, Brazil. It aimed at analyzing psychosocial aspects of the interventions that such people made to their bodies, investigating process of health and sickness involved in these contexts. The analysis of the participants’ reports of the support group identified itself with a deep relation between the construction of the bodies and subjectivities of travesty and transgender people belonging to the lower classes and the utilization of the Brazilian public health system, called Unified Health System (SUS). As results, it found that in Brazil, the travesty and transgender population is neglected when accessing the public health services, which causes many damages and, in some cases, irretrievable consequences to the health of these people. The treatment model in the public health system in Brazil concerning the travesty and transgender population is reductionist and precarious, considering health only under the biological view and disregarding the complexity of this phenomenon. This way, SUS neglects the psychic losses that transgender brings related to their bodies, something which contradicts the broad health concept defined by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Abstract: the aids epidemic is considered a phenomenon of large proportions and for its character and severity pandemic represents a major public health problem and would require public policies more humane and efficient. psychology, considering the subjectivity and ethical principles related to human rights, appears as the key agent in developing effective public policies in the context of aids. this study intends to rise up a discussion about the inclusion of psychology in this field and what can be done to promote a reflection on the part of (the) psychologists (as) about their practices, allowing for new perspectives and interventions. on this purpose, we performed a non-systematic literature review on the subject. from this, it was concluded that psychology can play a relevant role in the development and implementation of public policies on hiv/aids and act beyond a healthcare practice that contributes to the promotion of human rights and citizenship.

New PHA products using unrelated carbon sources
Matias, Fernanda;Rodrigues, Maria Filomena de Andrade;
Brazilian Journal of Microbiology , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1517-83822011000400017
Abstract: polyhydroxyalkanoates (pha) are natural polyesters stored by a wide range of bacteria as carbon source reserve. due to its chemical characteristics and biodegradability pha can be used in chemical, medical and pharmaceutical industry for many human purposes. over the past years, few burkholderia species have become known for production of pha. aside from that, these bacteria seem to be interesting for discovering new pha compositions which is important to different industrial applications. in this paper, we introduce two new strains which belong either to burkholderia cepacia complex (bcc) or genomovar-type, burkholderia cepacia sa3j and burkholderia contaminans i29b, both pha producers from unrelated carbon sources. the classification was based on 16s rdna and reca partial sequence genes and cell wall fatty acids composition. these two strains were capable to produce different types of pha monomers or precursors. unrelated carbon sources were used for growth and pha accumulation. the amount of carbon source evaluated, or mixtures of them, was increased with every new experiment until it reaches eighteen carbon sources. as first bioprospection experiments staining methods were used with colony fluorescent dye nile red and the cell fluorescent dye nile blue a. gas chromatography analysis coupled to mass spectrometry was used to evaluate the pha composition on each strain cultivated on different carbon sources. the synthesized polymers were composed by short chain length-pha (scl-pha), especially polyhydroxybutyrate, and medium chain length-pha (mcl-pha) depending on the carbon source used.

Revista Brasileira de Otorrinolaringologia , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-72992007000400010
Abstract: studies have reported compatibility between hearing and electrophysiological thresholds in the auditory brainstem response (abr) with tone burst stimuli. aims: to verify waves i, iii, v and their latency times for tone bursts at 500, 1000, 2000 and 4000 hz and at 80 db hl, and to compare tone burst electrophysiological thresholds with those obtained from audiological and psychoacoustic evaluations. methods: audiological, psychoacoustic and electrophysiological evaluations of 40 male and female normal hearing individuals aged between 18 and 40 years were undertaken. results: only wave v was visualized at 80 db hl and its latency values decreased with increased frequencies in both genders. at 1000, 2000 and 4000 hz male subjects presented higher electrophysiological thresholds values than females at all frequencies. at 500, 1000 and 2000 hz, electrophysiological, hearing, and psychoacoustic thresholds were statistically different in both genders. conclusion: although abr with tone burst stimulus is clinically applicable, further research is needed to standardize test techniques and results.
Photojournalism: the assaults of PCC in the pages of Folha and the Estad o Fotojornalismo: os ataques do PCC nas páginas da Folha e do Estad o
Fernanda Rodrigues Campos,Paulo Cesar Boni
Discursos Fotográficos , 2007,
Abstract: This article addresses the photojournalistic coverage carried out by Folha de S.Paulo and O Estado de S. Paulo during the assaults of the First Command in the Capital (PCC) in May 2006. The methods used here were those of technical deconstruction - to analyze the elements of photographic language in the construction of the message – and comparative analysis - to check the creation of meaning in those messages. Through these methodological procedures, it is inferred that Folha adopted a more sensationalistic feature with spectacularization of those images than Estad o, which adopted a more neutral and realistic posture in the view of the facts.
Non discretionary variables DEA models for the segment B vehicles evaluate

Sistemas & Gest?o , 2007,
Abstract: Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) was developed to evaluate Decision Making Units -DMUs), where the financial aspect is not important or relevant. One DEA models result tothe DMUs inefficient classified are the variables targets, that is, the new consumption andproduction levels that should achieve to be efficient. This is not possible to apply in realcases any time. This paper has the objective to analyse a real case that there are nondiscretionary variables, it is, in cases that the targets for these variables are impracticable.Although it is a common situation, it has been not much broach in DEA. In the first time, ithad been done a bibliography study from the different broach used to solve this problem and,in a second time, a real case was used to check the studied broaches efficiency, where itwas done an analyse comparison between the Compact Hatches vehicles from differentproducers, considering the automotive segment B, and at the end show the best vehicles, from each mathematic model.

Abstract: The biomass sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench], is an interesting crop considering the necessity to invest in alternative sources to generate renewable energy. The objective of this experiment was to identify sorghum biomass genotypes with greatest agronomic and energetic potential, and verify if there is phenotypic association between agronomic and technological properties in the hybrids. The study was conducted in three cities of the Minas Gerais State, Brazil (Lavras, Uberlandia and Sete Lagoas). It was evaluated 16 genotypes of sorghum biomass, being 14 of them sensitive hybrids to photoperiod and two cultivars, as control, insensitive to photoperiod. The experimental design was a triple lattice 4 × 4, with plots formed by four linear rows of 5.0 m. The morphoagronomic characteristics evaluated for the three environments were: days to flowering (FLOW), plant height (PH), number of stems (NS) and green matter production (GMP). In the experiment conducted in Lavras, also it was evaluated the agronomic traits: stem diameter (SD) and dry matter production (DMP) besides the technological traits: higher heating value (HHV), crude fiber (CF), neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and acid detergent fiber (ADF). The genotype × environment interaction was significant for all traits. The hybrids had superior performance compared to the control genotypes. Biomass sorghum hybrids, sensitive to photoperiod, when compared with commercial hybrids of forage sorghum, insensitive to photoperiod, had an average production of 34 t ha-1 dry matter with 62% humidity and higher heating value of 4.400 Kcal/Kg. There was no phenotypic correlation between agronomic and technological characters evaluated.

Abstract: Given the importance of the thymus to the immune system and the limited knowledge about its development and involution processes, this study evaluated the expression of the vascular endo-thelial growth factor, a key angiogenic factor for the formation of vascular tissue bed and modulation of functions related to cell proliferation and migration, hormone synthesis, and immunomodulation. In this study, thymus samples of dog fetuses (30, 40, 50 and 60 days old), and young (180 days old) and adult (365 days old) dogs were submitted to real-time PCR and Western blot. Time-dependent changes were observed for proteins and genes associated with the development of the vascular system, such as VEGF-A, VEGF-C, Flt-1, KDR, FLT-4, and EG-VEGF. This result demonstrates that these system components play different roles during development and involution of the thymus. Possible functions, such as the modulatory effect on vasculogenesis and microenvironment, influence the proliferation and differentiation of thymocytes, T cells maturation, cell-cell interaction and hormone secretion.
