Revista de Enfermagem UFPE On Line , 2010,
Abstract: Objective: to identify in the literature studies about the performance of the nursing team in care to patients subject to Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA). Methodology: the integrative literature review was carried out in the MEDLINE and LILACS databases, through the guiding question: how is nursing care performed during Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty? The inclusion criteria were articles published in English and Portuguese between 1999 and 2009. Results: of the 20 articles found, four were selected in MEDLINE and analyzed using a data collection instrument. All of them were published in the last five years, three in European journals and one in an American, and 50% presented low level of evidence. The subjects studied were the withdrawal of the introducer, nursing care and different protocols, variants of the time spent in nursing activity according to the type of access in PTCA, and nurses’ educative actions. Conclusion: nursing has a very important role in patient care in PTCA and there is need for more and deeper studies regarding this subject.

Abstract: studies have shown relation between the incidence of chronic diseases in adults and obesity in infancy. this research aimed to determine and compare the indexes of overweight and infant obesity in the years 1983/1984 and 2003/2004. secondary data related to child growth and development were collected through consults in patient files, of users who had been under follow-up at the pediatrics service in the unit located in the state of s?o paulo, brazil. the percentile was adopted for classification of the nutritional status. absolute and percentage frequencies were considered for descriptive analysis. data analysis was done using t test for comparisons of means. it was observed greater risk of overweight and significant difference in the weight of children born in 2003/2004 compared to users born in 1983/1984. anthropometric assessment carried out by nurses has a fundamental importance in child nutritional diagnosis, to accurately identify abnormalities and define efficient action strategies.

Revista da Sociedade Brasileira de Fonoaudiologia , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-80342007000400007
Abstract: purpose: people that suffer from diabetes mellitus (dm) type ii constitute a risk population for hearing disorders, since metabolic disease can affect nerve and vascular tissues that attain directly the auditory system. the present study investigated the audiologic profile of patients with dm type ii. methods: a descriptive study was carried out, where 44 patients (88 ears) were evaluated. the ages of the subjects ranged from 25 to 65 years. all subjects underwent an audiological evaluation that included pure tone audiometry, speech audiometry and acoustic immittance measures. results: the prevalence of patients with dm type ii was higher among female (77.3%). thirty one (70.4%) patients had dm type ii for less than 10 years. thirty three ears (37.5%) had sensorineural hearing loss ranging from low to moderate degree, predominantly in high frequencies. in the acoustic immittance measures, 71 (80,7%) ears showed type a tympanograms and 83 (94,3%) ears had presence of acoustic reflex. conclusion: the occurrence of hearing loss was observed in patients with dm type ii; consequently, the auditory evaluation of these patients is important to the follow up of the hearing loss.
THOMAS HOBBES: A NECESSIDADE DA CRIA O DO ESTADO.
Jecson Giro Lopes
Reconstru o do clima no nordeste brasileiro. Secas e enchentes do século XIX
Osvaldo Giro
Finisterra - Revista Portuguesa de Geografia , 2012,
Abstract: Climate reconstruction in northe astern Brazil. Floods and droughts in the 19th ce ntury. The temporal evolution of the natural environment dynamics, and its consequences for societies affected by natural phenomena, has been included in the syllabus of Historical Climatology since the Annales School. This article assesses the evolution of such studies concerning the Brazilian instrumental series and the evaluation of extreme weather events (droughts and floods), as well as their impact on the socio-economic dynamics of the nineteenth century northeastern Brazil.
Rank gradient of small covers
Darlan Giro
Mathematics , 2013,
Abstract: We prove that if $M \longrightarrow P$ is a small cover of a compact right-angled hyperbolic polyhedron $P$ then $M$ admits a cofinal tower of finite sheeted covers with positive rank gradient. As a corollary, if $\pi_1(M)$ is commensurable with the reflection group of $P$, then $M$ admits a cofinal tower of finite sheeted covers with positive rank gradient.
A sharp inequality for Sobolev functions

Mathematics , 2014, DOI: 10.1016/S1631-073X(02)02215-X
Abstract: Let $N\geq 5$, $a>0$, $\Omega$ be a smooth bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^{N}$, $2^*=\frac{2N}{N-2}$, $2^\#=\frac{2(N-1)}{N-2}$ and $||u||^2=|\nabla u|_{2}^2+a|u|_{2}^2$. We prove there exists an $\alpha_{0}>0$ such that, for all $u\in H^1(\Omega)\setminus\{0\}$, $$\frac{S}{2^{\frac 2N}}\leq\frac{||u||^2}{|u|_{2^*}^2}\left(1+\alpha_{0}\frac{|u|_{2^\#}^{2^\#}}{||u||\cdot|u|_{2^*}^{2^*/2}}\right).$$ This inequality implies Cherrier's inequality.
A family of sharp inequalities for Sobolev functions
Pedro M. Giro
Mathematics , 2014,
Abstract: Let $N\geq 5$, $\Omega$ be a smooth bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^{N}$, ${2^*}=\frac{2N}{N-2}$, $a>0$, $S=\inf\left\{\left. \int_{\mathbb{R}^{N}}|\nabla u|^2\,\right|\,u\in L^{2^*}(\mathbb{R}^{N}), \nabla u\in L^2(\mathbb{R}^{N}), \int_{\mathbb{R}^{N}}|u|^{2^*}=1 \right\}$ and $||u||^2=|\nabla u|_{2}^2+a|u|_{2}^2$. We define ${2^\flat}= \frac{2N}{N-1}$, ${2^\#}=\frac{2(N-1)}{N-2}$ and consider $q$ such that ${2^\flat}\leq q\leq{2^\#}$. We also define $s=2-N+\frac{q}{{2^*}-q}$ and $t=\frac{2}{N-2}\cdot \frac{1}{{2^*}-q}$. We prove that there exists an $\alpha_{0}(q,a,\Omega)>0$ such that, for all $u\in H^1(\Omega)\setminus\{0\}$, $$\frac{S}{2^{\frac 2N}}{|u|_{{2^*}}^2}\leq||u||^2+\alpha_{0} \left(\frac{||u||}{|u|_{{2^*}}^{2^*/2}}\right)^s|u|_{q}^{qt},\qquad{(I)_{q}}$$ where the norms are over $\Omega$. Inequality $(I)_{{2^\flat}}$ is due to M. Zhu.
Convergence of a crystalline algorithm for the motion of a simple closed convex curve by weighted curvature
Pedro M. Giro
Mathematics , 2014, DOI: 10.1137/0732041
Abstract: Motion by weighted mean curvature is a geometric evolution law for surfaces and represents steepest descent with respect to anisotropic surface energy. It has been proposed that this motion could be computed numerically by using a "crystalline" approximation to the surface energy in the evolution law. In this paper we prove the convergence of this numerical method for the case of simple closed convex curves in the plane.
