Managerial Overconfidence and the Value Adjustment Mechanism  [PDF]

Using the M & A event of A-share listed companies from 2008 to 2013, which contains the value adjustment mechanism, as a sample, the paper is intended to explore the influence of managerial overconfidence on the performance growth rate and the relationship between the promise of profit growth rate and the performance of M & A. The results show that overconfident managers tend to accept higher performance growth rate, and this tendency is more obvious in private enterprises. The further study found that the higher the promise of profit growth rate, the better the performance of M & A., but when the overconfident manager makes a higher level of performance commitment, the market will react negatively. This mainly depends on the value adjustment mechanism to a certain extent, can alleviate the information asymmetry of both sides, and encourage the parties to participate in the process of integration after merger, but when overconfidence managers promise higher earnings growth, the investors tend to interpret it as manager’s shortsighted behavior of lack of awareness of market risk.

A New Method to Digitize DNA Sequence  [PDF]

The global description uses composition, transition and distribution to describe an amino acid sequence and has been widely adopted in various fields. Here we integrate it with properties of nucleic acid and form a new method to digitize DNA sequence. Through this method we can use a 39-dimession vector to represent a DNA sequence. We use the exon-1 of β-Globin genes of eight species to verify this method and compare with other methods. A similar result with other method proves that this method is persuading. This method provides a new strategy to digitize DNA sequence and generates DNA sequence descriptor vector. It is different from other methods and this method only produces a 39-dimession vector and not depends on the length of DNA sequence.
On a Conjecture of Kac-Wakimoto

Abstract: We prove a conjecture about mininmal index of certain representations of Coset Algebraic Conformal Field Theories under general conditions as formulated previously by us. As a by-product, the Kac-Wakimoto Conjecture (KWC) which is related to the asympotics of the coset characters is true under the same conditions. The same idea in the proof also proves a recent conjecture related to subfactors from conformal inclusions.

Abstract: All unitary Rational Conformal Field Theories (RCFT) are conjectured to be related to unitary coset Conformal Field Theories, i.e., gauged Wess-Zumino-Witten (WZW) models with compact gauge groups. In this paper we use subfactor theory and ideas of algebraic quantum field theory to approach coset Conformal Field Theories. Two conjectures are formulated and their consequences are discussed. Some results are presented which prove the conjectures in special cases. In particular, one of the results states that a class of representations of coset $W_N$ ($N\geq 3$) algebras with critical parameters are irreducible, and under the natural compositions (Connes' fusion), they generate a finite dimensional fusion ring whose structure constants are completely determined, thus proving a long-standing conjecture about the representations of these algebras.
Algebraic orbifold conformal field theories

Abstract: We formulate the unitary rational orbifold conformal field theories in the algebraic quantum field theory framework. Under general conditions, we show that the orbifold of a given unitary rational conformal field theories generates a unitary modular category. Many new unitary modular categories are obtained. We also show that the irreducible representations of orbifolds of rank one lattice vertex operator algebras give rise to unitary modular categories and determine the corresponding modular matrices, which has been conjectured for some time.
On the equivalence of certain coset conformal field theories

Abstract: We demonstrate the equivalence of Kazama-Suzuki cosets $G(m,n,k)$ and $G(k,n,m)$ based on complex Grassmannians by proving that the corresponding conformal precosheaves are isomorphic. We also determine all the irreducible representations of the conformal precosheaves.
3-manifold invariants from cosets

Abstract: We construct unitary modular categories for a general class of coset conformal field theories based on our previous study of these theories in the algebraic quantum field theory framework using subfactor theory. We also consider the calculations of the corresponding 3-manifold invariants. It is shown that under certain index conditions the link invaraints colored by the representations of coset factorize into the products of the the link invaraints colored by the representations of the two groups in the coset. But the 3-manifold invariants do not behave so simply in general due to the nontrivial branching and selection rules of the coset. Examples in the parafermion cosets and diagonal cosets show that 3-manifold invariants of the coset may be finer than the products of the 3-manifold invariants associated with the two groups in the coset, and these two invariants do not seem to be simply related in some cases, for an example, in the cases when there are issues of ``fixed point resolutions''. In the later case our framework provides a representation theory understanding of the underlying unitary modular categories which has not been obtained by other methods.
Constraining String Gauge Field by Planet Perihelion Precession and Galaxy Rotation Curves

Abstract: We performed various tests on a cosmological model in which the string gauge field, and its coupling to matter, is used to explain the rotation dynamics of stars in a galaxy. Observations used include perihelion precession and galaxy rotation curves. We solved precession motions for perturbations of 1) a Lorenz-like force and 2) a general power law central force. For the latter case, a simple rule judging pro/retrograde motions is derived. We attributed the precession of solar system planets to the force due to the string field and calculated the field strengths. We then fitted the resultant field strengths with a profile consisting one part generated by the Sun and another background due to other matter in the Milky Way. We used the Milky Way rotation curve to estimate the field strength and compared it with the one found by precession. The field strengths in another 22 galaxies are also analyzed. The strengths form a range that spans 2 orders of magnitude and contains the value found for the Milky Way. We also deduced from the model a relation between field strength, galaxy size and luminosity and verified it with data of the 22 galaxies.
