Abstract: the objective of this study was to evaluate the technical viability of the ooplankton enriched used in the feeding of pacu (piaractus mesopotamicus) pos-larvaes. in the environmental station of itutinga of the energy company of minas gerais (cemig) this experiment was developmented, for 5 days last , the pacu larvicultura, by using 30 plastic boxes with capacity of 30 liters of water and continuous renewal, in a density of 10 powder-larvas per liter; they were appraised 6 feeding treatments: ooplankton without enrichment, ooplankton with 4 different enrichment levels (0,1; 0,5; 1,0; 1,5 g of fish oil) and artêmia náuplios, in a randomly blocks design with 6 treatments and 5 repetitions. the performance of larvaes as well as length, weight, survival and resistance to the stress were evaluated. the results shown that the ooplankton enriched is viable in the pacu (piaractus mesopotamicus) pos-larvaes performance in terms of length , survival and the resistance to the stress
Palmitato de ascorbil e acetato de tocoferol como antioxidantes metabólicos em larvas de dourado

Abstract: the objective of this work was to evaluate the effect and interaction between supplementation of tocopherol acetate and ascorbyl palmitate, in the diet of dourado larvae (salminus brasiliensis), during its initial development. the experimental design was completely randomized in split plot, as follows: in the plot, a factorial arrangement (2x3) with six diets, constituted by the combination between two concentrations of tocopherol acetate (0 and 250 mg kg-1) and three concentrations of ascorbyl palmitate (0, 100 and 1,000 mg kg-1); and in the subplot, with two periods of sampling (5 and 15 days of feeding). in the larvae, determinations were performed for the concentrations of the ascorbyl palmitate, ascorbic acid and dehydroascorbic acid, total length, weight and height of the head. ascorbyl palmitate provided an increase in the total length and in the weight of the larvae after 15 days of feeding. for head height, differences were observed among the three doses of tested ascorbyl palmitate. the supplementation of ascorbyl palmitate increased the vitamin c concentrations. although vitamin e has not influenced the development sizes, it acted as a metabolic pro-oxidant, which increased the dehydroascorbic acid.

Abstract: to evaluate the influence of benzocaine concentration on the induction and recovery from anesthesia in different sized nile tilapia (oreochromis niloticus), it was developed a random block experiment design in 4 × 4 factorial consisted of four fish lengths (6; 10; 14 and 18 cm total lenght) and four benzocaine concentrations (60; 120; 180 and 240 mg of benzocaine per liter of water). the induction and the recovery from anesthesia were divided in three stages based on the behavior of the fishes under anesthetic effect. the time spent in each stage was recorded. differences in length did not affect significantly the anesthesia and recovery time. linear plateu regressions were generated to estimate the point which increases on anesthetic doses does not imply in further effects. during the anesthesia induction, the plateu occurred in concentration time of 132 mg/l, and estimated time of 86 seconds would be necessary to achieve the complete sedation (stage 3). for permanence of the fish under total sedation, it is needed 190 g/l benzocaine and estimated time of permanence in this stage is 91.1 seconds. benzocaine concentrations above 190 mg/l do not produce any additional effects that justify its use.
Macronutrients Omission in the Growth of Cotton, BRS Topázio Cultivar Grown in Nutritious Solution  [PDF]

Abstract: With the objective to determine the probable causes of the appearance of abnormalities in BRS Topázio cotton plants, a greenhouse experiment was carried out per subtraction, in which nutrients were omitted: N, P, K, Ca, Mg and S, totalizing 21 experimental units. The omission of N, P, K and Ca in the nutrient solution reduced the biometric characteristics of the cotton crop, with K and Ca being the most affected by these characteristics. The visual symptoms in cotton plants are seen with more severity in the lack of K, P, K Ca and Mg elements. The omission of S did not affect the development of the plants.
Dry Matter Production and Nutritional Status of Sunflower Grown in Nutrient Solution under Macronutrient Omission  [PDF]

Abstract: The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of omission of macronutrients on dry matter production and on the nutritional status of sunflower cv. BRS 122. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse, in randomized blocks, with seven treatments corresponding to the Hoagland & Arnon standard solution (1950) and the individual omission of N, P, K, Ca, Mg and S, in three replicates. After 50 days of sowing, the dry matter and the nutritional status of the plants were evaluated. The omission of N, P, K, Ca, Mg and S limited the dry mass production of sunflower cv. BRS 122 in relation to the complete solution, besides causing nutritional imbalance due to the interaction between the nutrients. The omission of the macronutrients K, Ca, and Mg caused the higher imbalances in the plants, highlighting the elevated N contents in these treatments comparing to the complete solution.

Abstract: Water availability is a fundamental condition for sustainable agriculture. However, a satisfactory water condition is not always possible in terms of quantity and quality in certain regions, such as the Brazilian semi-arid region. Thus, the purpose of this extremely important research was to evaluate the growth of cv. All Big with six combinations of wastewater plus saline (WW + SW) and two nutrient solution percentages, in a low-cost hydroponic system. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse at the Department of Agricultural Engineering at Federal University of Campina Grande. A completely randomized experimental design was used, with treatments arranged in a factorial scheme (6 × 2), with 5 replications, being the treatments composed by the combination of six proportions of wastewater with saline water (50%/50%; 60%/40%; 70%/30%; 80%/20%; 90%/10%; 100% of wastewater) and two nutrient solution concentration (80% and 100%), totalizing 60 experimental units. The biometric variables were analyzed at 55 and 96 days after sowing, namely: plant height (PH), stem diameter (SD), leaf number (LN) and leaf area (LA). The interaction between the concentration of the nutrient solution and the ratio of the saline water with wastewater was influenced in the behavior of peppers (cv. All Big) biometric variables. The nutrient solution prepared at 80% of its normal concentration had better performance in the development of plants when mixed with the proportions of water containing more wastewater. The proportion 30% saline water and 70% wastewater (30/70) with concentration of 80% of the nutrient solution obtained better satisfactory results in the studied biometric variables.

Abstract: introduction and objective: the study of biological behavior of odontogenic lesions is essential to the establishment of appropriate therapeutic approach and prognosis. the production of extracellular matrix metalloproteinases (mmps), angiogenesis and cell proliferation contribute to tumor growth. this paper aims to review the literature on odontogenic tumors (ot) selected according to the new world health organization classification (who- 2005) by evaluating the expression of mmps, angiogenic and cell proliferation. furthermore, it aims to verify the relation between these markers and the biological behavior of these lesions. results: it was found that mmps -1, -2, -7, -9 and -26 had a higher expression in both epithelial component and stroma, and 13 particularly in the stroma. increased angiogenesis was observed in more aggressive ot. cd105 expression was higher in keratocystic odontogenic tumour (kot) and cd34 in solid ameloblastomas (sa). it was observed a higher expression of ki-67 and p53 in sa and kot and a low cell proliferation rate in the adenomatoid odontogenic tumour (aot). conclusion: these results show that mmps are involved in invasion and recurrence of some odontogenic lesions and are associated with the biological behavior of these tumors. angiogenesis is critical to provide support to cell proliferation and these concomitant events are correlated with different levels of biological behavior in ot when compared to odontogenic cysts, hence the use of angiogenic inhibitors may be a potential therapeutic approach in these lesions.

Abstract: in this study available cooper (cu) content in different sources of this micronutrient was determined using several extractants. the cooper sources were: coppper oxide p.a. + copper powder p.a., copper oxide 40 ind., cuso4.5h2o p.a., chalcopyrite ore, copper powder p.a. and copper oxide p.a., and they were used in the following extraction procedures: total cu content and soluble cu contents in water, citric acid at 20 g l-1, neutral ammonium citrate (1 + 9) and dtpa at 0.005 mol l-1. the cu solubility in the latter three extractors was assessed after shaking the sample for one hour and boiling it for 5 minutes. alongside, growth and cu uptake by rice plants (oryza sativa l.) cultivated in an orthic quartzpsamment, fertilized with the different cu sources at rates of 0.0, 0.75, 1.5 and 3.0 mg dm-3 of cu, were evaluated in a greenhouse. the fertilizers differed in soluble cu as well as the total cu content. all tested sources were efficient in supplying cu to plants, although higher doses were necessary when the sources containing chalcopyrite and copper oxide 40 ind. were used, since these sources resulted in lower amounts of plant-available cu. a residual effect of cu was observed in the soil for all sources after the second rice cultivation. in view of the differences of the sources regarding cu solubility and agronomic efficiency, the use of a second warranty control is suggested to determine the cu content besides that of the total content. the extraction procedure using neutral ammonium citrate (1 + 9) at 1:100, with boiling for 5 min, proved adequate for the determination of the available cu content in fertilizers.

Abstract: the influence of phosphorus (20, 150, 300, 450 , and 600 mg dm-3) and magnesium (0, 15, 30 , and 60 mg dm-3) rates upon the dry aerial biomass yield, and phosphorus and magnesium content and accumulation in cv. improved sunrise solo 72/12 and in the hybrid tainung no1 papaya seedlings were evaluated. the experiments were carried out in randomized block design with four replications, in a factorial arrangement. in the iss 72/12 plants, all phosphorus and magnesium content was influenced by phosphorus-magnesium interactions. increasing accumulation on dry mass in response to phosphorus and magnesium rates was observed. the greater gain on iss 72/12 and tainung no1 dry aerial biomass was obtained at the 600 mg dm-3 level of phosphorus. in the iss 72/12 cultivar, under low levels of phosphorus, the magnesium additions increased the phosphorus content on dry aerial biomass yield. the magnesium content in both varieties showed a negative relationship with the phosphorus level of the substrate. the phosphorus content in the dry aerial biomass yield was influenced by phosphorus and magnesium substrate interactions.
Prevalence of Family History of Cancer among Gastric Cancer Patients at Brazilian National Cancer Institute  [PDF]

Abstract: Background: Gastric cancer is the third most incident malignancy and the fifth leading cause of death in the world. In Brazil, it is the fourth most common tumour in men and the fifth in women. Familial aggregation of this tumour is being studied and discussed by experts. Aim: Determine the frequency of family history of cancer in patients with gastric cancer, suggesting familial aggregation or increased risk for hereditary cancer syndromes. Methods: This is a retrospective cross-sectional study carried out from January 2011 to March 2015 at the Department of Abdominal and Pelvic Surgery of the Brazilian National Cancer Institute (INCA). Data were collected from electronic medical records and analyzed using SPSS Statistics? version 20. Results: 873 patients with gastric adenocarcinoma were analyzed. A family history of cancer was reported by 451 patients (51.6%), which reported cancer in 878 relatives, of which 110 (12.6%), reported having more than three relatives with any type of cancer. The most prevalent malignancies among these relatives were gastric cancer (21.3%) and breast cancer (9.5%). Conclusion: Most of the patients had cancer family history, being gastric cancer the most common. The high percentage of cancer family history confirms the importance of collecting this information, whose lack reflects professional negligence, as family history study can serve as a low-cost tool, favoring prevention and early diagnosis, situations where morbidity and mortality are smaller, thus reducing health costs and assistance and preserving lives.
