Molecular Detection and Sequencing for S1 Glycoprotein Gene of Bronchitis Virus of 2016 Epidemic from Sindh and Punjab  [PDF]

Abstract: Infectious Bronchitis (IB) is highly contagious disease of commercial poultry causing substantial economic loses by producing poor quality meat in broilers and effecting production in breeder birds. The causative agent has been reported as most hazardous pathogen among other infectious agent even after being immunized with multi-variant strain vaccine. Currently, different strain such as H-120, 4/91 and D274 have been used extensively for immunoprophylaxis against velogenic strain across Pakistan with minimal protection reported. In current study PCR analysis was used to investigate the molecular nature of IB isolates from Punjab and Sind province of Pakistan in 2016 epidemics. Total of 100 tracheal samples were considered for virus inoculation in 10 days old chicken embryonated eggs. The IBV infected amniotic fluid was neutralized with monoclonal antisera of H-120, 4/91 and D274 strains. The IBV screened samples were subjected for RNA extraction and subsequent to PCR using type specific primer of each strain. The amplified product of 840 bp was sequenced through Sanger sequencing. On the basis of PCR results, four similar amplified products from both regions were obtained showing similarities in agarose gel electrophoresis, but they differ from each other on the basis of nucleotides sequence. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that nucleotide sequences of isolates from Karachi were similar to the IBV H-120, Mass-41 and Connecticut 46 reference strains. Whereas, isolates from the Punjab province are analogous to the Mans-2, Mans-3, 9/41(UK) but did not show significant similarity with other reference strain. Therefore, it is recommended that use of M-41 and H-120 in vaccine production could be effective measure against velogenic infectious agent in Sindh particularly in Karachi, whereas, it would be better to incorporate either of the variant GQ281656.1, AY279533.1 in vaccine because of their highest level of resemblance with genetically sequenced isolates from Lahore and its surroundings.

Abstract: Background: Ageing of the population is one of the most important demographic facts that come to the foreground in the 21st century. Objective: To assess the relationship between psychological factors (depression, loneliness, using anti anxiety medication, fear from falls and internal displacement of the population) and falls among elderly people in Baghdad city, Iraq. Methods: A matched 1:1 community based case-control study involving 716 elderly respondents, recruited randomly from six Non Governmental Organization (NGO) in different areas of Baghdad. Interviews to each respondent were done accordingly. Geriatric depression scale (GDS) was used to assess the depression among the elderly people. Results: The minimum age for cases and controls was 60 years old while the maximum age for cases was 87 and for controls was 85 years old. The female was predominant than male, 53.6% to 46.4% respectively. The relation between depression, fear from fall, using anti anxiety medication, internal displacement and falls was statistically significant (p < 0.001). Conclusions: Psychological factor especially depression among elderly people is one of the important risk factors contributing to falls accident. Fear from falls, displacement and taking anti anxiety medication were also in significant relation.

Abstract: Deficiency in energy sector is a major problem, which can hinder the development workflow of any country. Being the eighth most populated country in the world with a total electricity generation of only about 5000 MW and consumption of 144 kWh per capita, Bangladesh is one of the most electricity-deprived countries around the globe. In addition, absence of adequate investment and mass people awareness is a major problem in this country. Therefore, it would be very difficult to achieve overall progress without ensuring energy security by utilizing the promising renewable energy sources. In order to achieve the Millennium Development Goal (MDG), it is must for a third world country like Bangladesh to address the issue of energy deficiency promptly. In this context, renewable energy is the sustainable solution of energy security as well as social, environmental and economical problems. This paper summarizes the current energy scenario of Bangladesh, impacts of pollution from conventional energy sources, prospects of renewable energy development, and estimates the total investment required in Bangladesh to promote renewable energy sector by the year 2020.

Abstract: Abnormal levels of plasma lipid have been linked to atherosclerosis, strokes and heart conditions. Variations in high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels are considered as risk factors for coronary artery disease (CAD). Furthermore, triglycerides are a leading cause of cardiovascular disease. Therefore, measurement of plasma lipid levels is an important mortality predictor. Several factors were associated with irregularity in plasma lipids such as genetic alterations. Recent researches have linked single nucleotides polymorphism (SNP) in ApoA5 gene with these deviations. In this study, we reported the effects of the genetic variant c.553G>T in ApoA5 on the levels of plasma lipids. To explore these effects, a case-control study including 280 male and female subjects (44 of them were assigned as CAD cases while the remaining subjects were categorized as control) was established. All patients in the study were recruited from the western region in KSA. The results have detected minor variations in LDL, HDL and cholesterol levels between CAD patients carrying T allele and CAD patients carrying the WT allele. However, there were no significant effects due to these variations. TG levels in the wild type carriers reached up to 291 mg/dl while T allele carriers, the cases, presented lower levels of TG (170 mg/dl and 71 mg/dl). Although, T allele showed no effects on plasma lipids with the exception of TG levels. We suggest by this study that T allele in this SNP might be considered as a valuable tool in the diagnosis of CAD.

Abstract: Wigmore’s charts and Bayesian networks are used to represent graphically the construction of arguments and to evaluate them. KAOS is a goal oriented requirements analysis method that enables the analysts to capture requirements through the realization of the business goals. However, KAOS does not have inbuilt mechanism for evaluating these goals and the inferring process. This paper proposes a method for evaluating KAOS models through the extension of Wigmore’s model with features of Bayesian networks.

Interaction of Twin Circular Shallow Tunnels in Soils—Parametric Study  [PDF]

Abstract:
In big and crowded cities with limited urban areas, it is sometimes necessary to build twin tunnels to overcome transportation problems. In a city like Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, tunneling becomes very essential to solve effectively traffic conjunctions and associated problems. The city started to construct big tunneling projects and it is expected in the near future to start building twin tunnels. If the design and construction process of twin tunnels are not understood and considered, damage to the tunnel lining or excessive ground surface settlement may take place. In this study, the interaction between adjacent tunnels excavated through soils in Saudi Arabia has been investigated using FE analysis and the range of the encountered soil properties. The investigation considered the effect of spacing between the twin tunnels and ground conditions on tunnel behavior. The analysis focused on the effect of constructing twin tunnels on ground surface settlement, contact pressure between lining and ground, and change in tunnel diameter. Based on the results obtained, it was observed that as the compressibility ratio, c, and spacing between tunnels decreased, the interaction effect between tunnels increased. For compressibility ratio of 0.01, the excavation of the new tunnel caused an increase in the lining deformation of the old one in the range of 0.1% to 0.3%. Furthermore, the excavation of the new tunnel leads to an increase in the contact pressure at the crown of the old one by 7% - 9%. At the spring line level, the excavation of the new tunnel had almost no effect on the far side of the old one. On the other hand, and for low compressibility ratio, the new tunnel excavation significantly affected contact pressure at the near side of the old one. For an expected tunnel life of 100 years, the results show an increase in the normalized contact pressure at the crown of the old tunnel due to the excavation of the new one in the range of 2% - 7% for compressibility ratio ranging between 0.01 - 0.1, respectively.
On Fuzzy Ordered Abel-Grassmann's Groupoids

Abstract: In this paper, we have introduced the concept of fuzzy ordered AG-groupoids which is the generalization of fuzzy ordered semigroups first considered by Kehayopulu and Tsingelis (2002). We have studied some important features of a left regular ordered AG-groupoid in terms of fuzzy left ideals, fuzzy right ideals, fuzzy two-sided ideals, fuzzy generalized bi-ideals, fuzzy bi-ideals, fuzzy interior ideals and fuzzy (1,2)-ideals. We have shown that the set of all fuzzy two-sided ideals of a left regular ordered AG-groupoid forms a semilattice structure. We have characterized all the fuzzy ideals of a left regular ordered AG-groupoid. Finally we have characterized a left regular ordered AG-groupoid by their fuzzy left and fuzzy right ideals.
Geothermal Water in Lebanon: An Alternative Energy Source  [PDF]

Abstract: Recently, demand for energy has been increased worldwide, notably in the view of high economic value and competi-tion of fossil fuel, as well as the negative impact of fuel consumption through carbon release, and thus the consequences on human health and environment. Various aspects of energy sources into Earth’s crust have been discovered and utilized. Geothermal energy is one aspect of these sources where they have been well pronounced in many countries and proved to be a potential energy source for the future needs. Lebanon, the country with rare natural energy, the renewable energy sources are almost ignored and there is only limited utilization of hydro-power, wind and solar energy, whilst oil imports occupy a substantial portion for energy use. Yet, geothermal energy has not raised and no concern has been given to this renewable source. Meanwhile, there are several indicators showing the existence of geothermal water in different regions in Lebanon. They almost occur where basalt rocks are exposed. This was evidenced whether from water in drilled wells or from various discharging springs, as well as indications of thermal water was observed also in many localities along the Lebanese coastal water. This study shows the available information in this respect, considering the occurrence of geothermal water in Lebanon as an alternative energy source. Thus four major geothermal domains were recognized. The study introduces detailed characterization on the existing aspects of geothermal water and inducing its hydrologic regime and mechanism of groundwater heating. It would be a reconnaissance stage that may help applying further detailed assessment.

Abstract: The tasks Preferential Trade Agreements (PTAs) perform are expressed in their scope and covered issues, thus in order to be WTO compatible these aspects of PTAs should comply with the relevant WTO rules. This paper examines which aspects of PTAs can violate these rules and therefore can be challenged before the WTO Dispute Settlement Body, who may initiate such cases and why there hasn´t been more cases dealing with this important issue.
