Ciência da Informa??o , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-19652010000300002
Abstract: data from the mortality information system (sim in portuguese) are the main source of information on mortality in brazil, in spite of frequent inconsistencies. one of the main drawbacks in the generation of reliable data on mortality in brazil is due to the difficulties faced by doctors for the correct completion of the death certificate (do in portuguese). this standard document feeds data into the sim. the paper presents a support tool for the correct completion of the do, represented by an application ontology, developed on the field of mortality as. the tool was made available to physicians of city department of health and welfare of belo horizonte (smsa-bh in portuguese) via a website, containing the terms defined in the ontology and their relationships, arranged in a taxonomic structure. the proposed solution has the main objective of assisting doctors in their task of registering the occurred deaths, by means of the correct way of filling out the do.

Sequência : Estudos Juridicos e Politicos , 2011,
Abstract: The category of minority is used as argumentative reinforcement in Law for the defense of fundamental rights. It is destined togroups that were historically marginalized, and claim for public recognition of their peculiarities and the protection of rights. This category,which appeared linked to the idea of state sovereigntyand nationality, now is extended to demands ignored before. The interpretation of principles related to the minority category musttherefore be conceived as a need for consolidation of constitutional democratic values. This study aims to identify how the minority category is articulated in decisions of the judiciary.The source of precedents on which research is developed are those decisions of all instances of the Brazilian courts, tried and published since October 5, 1988 until July 31, 2010. The conclusionis that the use of minority category by the judges pursues the democratic ideal of law enforcement to those belonging to minoritygroups.A categoria minoria é utilizada no Direitocomo refor o argumentativo para a defesade direitos fundamentais. Revista Brasileira de Otorrinolaringologia , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-72992006000200009
Abstract: the frontal sinus trauma is not rare and it is 8% of the facial fractures. it can affect the anterior and/or posterior plates, with or without hitting the nasofrontal duct. it has a large potential of complications and its management still being a controversy. objective: to present the casuistic of fractures frontal sinus, the epidemiology and clinical and surgical management of frontal sinus fractures. materials and methods: not randomized retrospective study of 24 patients with frontal sinus fractures hospital of clinics, school of medicine botucatu, s?o paulo, brazil. results: from the 24 patients, we had 16 (66,6%) fractures of the extern plate and 8 (33,4%) of both. in 2 patients the nasofrontal duct was involved. others facial fractures were associated in 20 (83,4%) cases and major lesions of the cerebral segment were found in 13 (54,2%). subpalpebral incision was performed in the majority with satisfactory aesthetic results. the basis of the surgical treatment was reduction and fixation with different materials (steel wire, mononylon, titanium miniplates) and if necessary we used alogen implants or parietal bone to reconstruct the anterior plate. conclusion: the principal cause of frontal sinus fractures is crashed car. the management depends of the complexity, because commonly there are cranioencephalic lesions associated. the surgical thecniques used are the incisions, bicoronal flap or brow-glabella, infra-orbital rim ("butterfly"), associated a endoscopy sinus surgery in cases of infection, cerobrospinal fluid leak and orbital complications.

Mathematics , 2015,
Abstract: The present paper deals with an OFDM-based uplink within a multi-user MIMO (MU-MIMO) system where a massive MIMO approach is employed. In this context, the linear detectors Minimum Mean-Squared Error (MMSE), Zero Forcing (ZF) and Maximum Ratio Combining (MRC) are considered and assessed. This papers includes Bit Error Rate (BER) results for uncoded QPSK/OFDM transmissions through a flat Rayleigh fading channel under the assumption of perfect power control and channel estimation. BER results are obtained through Monte Carlo simulations. Performance results are discussed in detail and we confirm the achievable "massive MIMO" effects, even for a reduced complexity detection technique, when the number of receive antennas at BS is much larger than the number of transmit antennas.

Marcos Martins Curi, Camila Lopes Cardoso, Daniel Henrique Koga, Cristina Zardetto, Sérgio Rocha Araújo
Open Journal of Stomatology (OJST) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ojst.2013.32026
Abstract:

Pyoderma gangrenosum is a rare ulcerative cutaneous disorder commonly associated with systemic diseases such as inflammatory bowel diseases. This paper reports a case of pyoderma gangrenosum affecting the mouth and the skin associated with ulcerative colitis. A Medline search in English literature from 1961 to 2012 revealed only 11 documented cases of pyoderma gangrenosum with oral involvement. Previous reported cases of oral cavity involvement have shown that the most common sites of manifestation are the tongue, palate, and tonsillar fauces. This case emphasizes the importance of including inflammatory bowel diseases and their manifestations in the differential diagnosis of ulcerative lesions in the oral cavity.

Dating the Cart-Ruts of Terceira Island, Azores, Portugal  [PDF]

Archaeological Discovery (AD) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/ad.2018.64014
Abstract: Unlike other cart ruts found elsewhere in the world, the Azorean cart-ruts, engraved on volcanic stone, at the middle of the Atlantic, raise many questions: How old are they? Who created them? Were they made during a short or long time? These mysteriously enigmatic parallel grooves are noticed on the hard volcanic rock of the nine Azorean Islands in several locations. Recent scientific evidences have provided some support to the hypothesis of human presence in the Azores Islands before Portuguese settlement during the 15th century. Are the Azorean cart-ruts pre-Portuguese? Here we try to establish a chronology for the cart-ruts of Terceira Island, Azores, Portugal, using a historical approach, a geological approach and also a 14C dating approach, the last one obtained by dating a placic horizon found in the grooves of the cart-ruts named “Passage of the Beasts”, which indicates the presence of human activity in the island at least during the 11th century, or probably before. The date obtained is consistent with another date achieved through similar methods for a man-made basin in the same island and is also consistent with the historiographical records.
Consciência fonológica e habilidade de leitura na síndrome de down
Cardoso-Martins, Cláudia;Frith, Uta;
Psicologia: Reflex?o e Crítica , 1999, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-79721999000100014
Abstract: the present study investigated the relationship between phonological awareness and reading ability in down syndrome (ds). thirty-three individuals with ds participated in the study. they all had begun to read and all showed clear signs of phonological recoding skills. thirty-three normal children, matched with the individuals with ds for reading ability, served as controls. the results contradicted cossu, rossini and marshall?s (1993) claim that individuals with ds can learn to read in the absence of phonological awareness. although the individuals with ds performed significantly worse than the normal children on the tasks that were used to assess phonological awareness, they performed quite well on a simple task of phoneme detection. in fact, analyses of the individual scores did not reveal a significant difference between the two groups on that task. in addition, analyses of the relationship between phonological awareness and reading ability yielded the same results for the two groups of subjects. for both groups, performance on a task that required the ability to explicitly manipulate phonemes correlated significantly with reading ability, even after individual differences for letter name knowledge and nonverbal intelligence were controlled.
