Meyer, Fabrício Schmitz;Meirelles, Julia;Caddah, Mayara Krasinski;Goldenberg, Renato;
Hoehnea , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S2236-89062012000200011
Abstract: the genus henriettea dc. were recorded for the first time in santa catarina state, as well as four species of melastomataceae: henriettea glabra (vell.) penneys, michelangeli, judd & almeda, leandra tetraquetra (cham.) cogn., miconia racemifera (dc.) triana and miconia paniculata (dc.) naudin. miconia paniculata and salpinga margaritacea (naudin) triana are also recorded for the first time for paraná state, and the latter is confirmed for santa catarina state, since its occurrence was previosly recorded based in an old and flowerless collection. all these species have their distribution limits extended towards the south, reaching the paraná and santa catarina states. descriptions, illustrations and taxonomic comments for all these new records are provided.

Abstract: In this work, the use of computational methods was essential to distinguish the three possible isomeric structures of the [RuCl3(H2O)2(Gly)] molecule. The characterization of these molecules was performed using IR, NMR and UV-VIS simulations. Some calculations related to the optimization of structures and properties such as chemical hardness and dipole moment were also conducted. The fac-cis isomer presented promising data when compared to the experimental data, indicating that this is the likely experimentally synthesized isomer. This study demonstrates the technical utility of the computational calculations by virtue of situations that prevent the realization of X-ray diffraction.
Adaptive Strategies for Accelerating the Convergence of Average Cost Markov Decision Processes Using a Moving Average Digital Filter  [PDF]
Edilson F. Arruda, Fabrício Ourique
American Journal of Operations Research (AJOR) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ajor.2013.36050

This paper proposes a technique to accelerate the convergence of the value iteration algorithm applied to discrete average cost Markov decision processes. An adaptive partial information value iteration algorithm is proposed that updates an increasingly accurate approximate version of the original problem with a view to saving computations at the early iterations, when one is typically far from the optimal solution. The proposed algorithm is compared to classical value iteration for a broad set of adaptive parameters and the results suggest that significant computational savings can be obtained, while also ensuring a robust performance with respect to the parameters.

Col?nia do Sacramento: a situa??o na fronteira platina no século XVIII
Prado, Fabrício Pereira;
Horizontes Antropológicos , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-71832003000100004
Abstract: the sacramento colony, currently uruguayan territory, in the first half of the xviii century, was a city with great commerce on the river plate region. placed in both portuguese and spanish social and commercial routes, the sacramento habitants formed a multiple frontier where spanish, portuguese and different indigenous groups coexisted. the present study analyses the social and commercial links that existed between the sacramento and buenos aires inhabitants. in the river plate region, the social networks developed connecting sacramento and buenos ayers were gateways to social status, power and wealth in an old regime society.
Constru??o nacional e aprendizado político: o saber-poder da brasilidade
Maciel, Fabrício;
Caderno CRH , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-49792010000300008
Abstract: this paper seeks to unite comparative theoretical elements among brazilian and european processes of national construction, in order to analyze the specificity of the former's national myth and its relationship to political learning in brazil. in order to do this, parts 1 and 2 of this paper seek, in view michel foucault's "in defense of society" (2005), to examin the mythological narratives of nation-building processes in england and france respectively. the third part seeks to analyze, mainly in view of the work of gilberto freyre, the specificity of the process of nation building and the myth of denial of conflict in brazil. the final section seeks to analyze a possible elective affinity between the national myth and a disability in political learning in brazil.
Mulheres emocionalmente descontroladas: identidades generificadas na mídia contemporanea
Fabrício, Branca Falabella;
DELTA: Documenta??o de Estudos em Lingüística Teórica e Aplicada , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-44502004000200003
Abstract: different studies on the construction of gendered identities in the media have shown that the male-female polarity has been guiding historical narratives, as it differentiates men and women according to biological features. they also problematize the role played by technological developments and marketing practices in the strengthening of explanatory scientific discourses concerning human behavior in the contemporary scenario. in light of this state of affairs, the purpose of the present paper is to map part of the beliefs and logics underlying contemporary media practices, analyzing its participation in the construction of womanhood and hegemonic femininity. the reflection is triggered by an article published in an english newspaper and draws on critical discourse analysis to approach the construction of imaginary subject positions for interlocutors whose voices interact in the focused text.
A diferencia??o centro-periferia como estratégia teórica básica para observar a produ??o científica
Neves, Fabrício Monteiro;
Revista de Sociologia e Política , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-44782009000300017
Abstract: modern science has employed a self-explanatory semantics that takes a variety of analytical strategies and levels into account. at the level of scientific organization, the sociology of science has made use of distinctions such as science-society and interest- disinterest. these theoretical forms of observation are undergirded by the notion of the social context of the production of scientific knowledge. nonetheless, literature on the sociology of science has not given enough attention to basic differentiation, within the world system of science and technology, between center and periphery, corresponding to a territorially-differentiated context of scientific and technological production and whose influence is also extended to the content of locally-produced scientific knowledge. this article revisits the literature on the sociology of science, technology and scientific knowledge, emphasizing the way in which these areas of research treat the above-mentioned differentiation. furthermore, it also attempts to present theoretical discussion on the usefulness of the center-periphery distinction for sociological study of knowledge and the way in which this differentiation intersects other types of differentiation, including its effects on the very content of scientific knowledge. the article argues that the sociology of scientific knowledge in brazil remains timid insofar as the study of the content of scientific knowledge in the periphery of the world system of science and technology is concerned. in brazil, the "curse of normal science" prevails, a conception that is rooted in the local imaginary which asserts that there is little to be known regarding the content of autochthonous knowledge. contrary to this view, this article encourages studies of science, technology and scientific knowledge in the periphery, in such a way as to specify the original content that the latter has contributed.
Crescimento da firma e comércio exterior: revisitando a teoria de Adrian Wood
Catermol, Fabrício;
Revista de Economia Política , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-31572006000200005
Abstract: this paper analyzes the growth of the firm by foreign trade. the theory of adrian wood is revisited for the analysis of growth and profit trade-off and improved to cope with growth by exports. the main outcome of this paper is that low domestic demand can be a very important factor to firm choices growth by foreign market. however, the growth of domestic demand does not necessarily reduce exports.
Síndromes de dispers?o de espécies arbóreas de florestas ombrófilas submontanas do estado do Rio de Janeiro
Carvalho, Fabrício Alvim;
Revista árvore , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-67622010000600007
Abstract: this study aimed to evaluate the differences between propagule dispersal syndromes of woody species in secondary and mature submountaine ombrophilous forests in the state of rio de janeiro, brazil. the hypothesis is that secondary forests will show lower richness and density of woody species with biotic seed dispersal modes (zoocory). lists of seven secondary and five mature forests were used. the averages of the proportions of biotic modes between secondary and mature forests were compared through u test. secondary and mature forests differed statistically in richness and density of biotic species (p < 0.01). these proportions were lower in the secondary forests, according to the hypothesis. secondary forests also showed a decrease in the density of zoocoric species dispersed by large vertebrates, belonging to lauraceae, myrtaceae e sapotaceae. further management and conservation practices in these secondary forests must need incorporate the plant-dispersers interactions, due to risks in the forest regeneration process without the adequate dispersal fauna.
