Abstract:

Three assays were developed from April 3, 1995 to October 10, 2005. The work with corn was conducted in a greenhouse, using velvet bean (Mucuna aterrima) and sunn hemp (Crotalaria juncea) as green manure with 15N labeling of either shoots or roots, in two soils with contrasting textural classes. The mineralization of N from legume plants incorporated into the two soils was investigated too. This work included two green manures: velvet bean and sunn hemp, and the common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) residues. Nitrogen from the velvet bean accounted for a greater proportion of the soil inorganic N; shoots were responsible for most of N accumulated. Common bean residues caused immobilization of inorganic N. The leguminous species added were intensively and promptly mineralized, preserving the soil native nitrogen. One hundred days after emergence of the corn, velvet bean provided higher accumulation of nitrogen in the soil, higher absorption by corn plants and accumulation in the aerial part. The green manure decomposition was more intense in the medium textured soil. In this soil, highest nitrogen losses were also observed. The sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) was cultivated for five years in the field and was harvested three times; 15N recovery was evaluated in the first two harvests. The combination of inorganic fertilizer and green manure resulted in higher sugarcane yields than either N source applied separately; however, in the second cutting the yields were higher where sunn hemp was used than in plots with ammonium sulfate. The recovery of N by the first two consecutive harvests accounted for 19% to 21% of the N applied as sunn hemp and 46% to 49% of the N applied as ammonium sulfate. Very little inorganic N was present in the 0-40 cm soil layer with

Abstract: allelopathy is an interaction among two organisms, where one of that is affected and the other stays stable. it can be source for discoveries of new natural phytotoxic compounds with low toxicity to the organisms that are not target of control. most of the allelochemicals are secondary metabolites like terpenoids, phenolic compounds, organic cyanides and longchain fatty acids. the performance of the allelochemicals can be different according the situations, and it affects a great number of biochemical reactions, resulting in different physiologic modifications in the plants. allelochemicals could affect different pathways, like, the enzymatic activity, division and structure of cells, permeability of the membranes and ions reception, culminating in reduction or inactivation of the germination and plant growth. effects of the allelochemicals on the photosynthesis and breathing has been better characterized, however, several researches had demonstrated the performance of those compounds in oxidative stress, resulting in an increase of oxygen reactive species production which in high concentrations are harmful to cells. in that way, the knowledge of mechanisms of allelochemicals performance is necessary for the development of sustainable techniques in agriculture.

Abstract: a greenhouse experiment with an alleatory factorial 9 x 4 scheme was carried out to evaluate the effects of different substrates and species of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (amf) on the development of coffee plants, cultivar catuaí amarelo, iac 62. nine substrates were used: seven commercial organic substrates - four substrates containing composted pinus peel (rendmax, fertilized vida verde, non- fertilized vida verde and terra do paraíso), three containing coconut fiber (golden mix-11, golden mix- 47 and golden mix 80) and two using soil - a mixture of 70% soil and 30% cattle manure, usually used by the producer, and soil alone. the amf were glomus intraradices, glomus etunicatum and gigaspora margarita, and a control without amf inoculation. the plants were harvested 200 days after transplanting and the following variables were analyzed - height, number of leaves, stem diameter, shoot dry weight, root fresh weight, shoot p content, mycorrhizal colonization, total extraradical mycelium, acid phosphatase activity and photosynthetic pigments. better plant growth conditions were obtained in the substrate vida verde without fertilization, regardless of mycorrhiza. plants colonized by g. margarita and cultivated in the conventional substrate (soil + manure) and vida verde with fertilization showed higher p amounts and index of p utilization efficiency, which reverted in better growth and biomass production, resulting in higher symbiotic efficiency. mycorrhizal plants, cultivated in soil + manure, showed higher chlorophyll values and lower acid phosphatase activity in coffee leaves.

Ciência Rural , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-84782009005000116
Abstract: bovine herpesvirus type 2 (bohv-2), the agent of bovine herpetic mammillitis (bhm), has a worldwide distribution and was identified in brazil in the 70's. thereafter, cases of bovine mammillitis clinically compatible with bhm have been frequently reported by cattle owners and veterinarians, mainly in dairy herds, suggesting the dissemination of bohv-2 among brazilian cattle. this article reports a serologic survey for bohv-2 antibodies in cattle from rio grande do sul (rs), using serum samples obtained upon a statistically planned sampling as a part of the program of control/eradication of brucellosis and tuberculosis (pncbt). a total of 2.213 serum samples from cows with 24 months or older, predominantly from dairy herds, from 136 counties located in seven geographical regions of rs were tested by virus neutralization (vn). serum samples with vn titers > 2 were detected in 24.5% (543/2.213) of the animals. prevalence rates varied from 12.9% (22/170) in porto alegre metropolitan area to 48,9% (69/137) in the central-eastern region. in most regions, the highest prevalence rates were observed in dairy herds (32.3%), followed by double proposit (22%) and beef herds (17.6%). these results demonstrate that bohv-2 infection is widespread among cattle in rs, and potentially involved in cases of mammillitis described in dairy cows.

This article presents a proposal of structuring and flexible retrieving of experience elements or described cases in the text format. The application domain is urgency-emergency services where the healthcare professionals can work in many occurrences in the same day. Occurrences like: traffic accidents, fire gun wounds, burns, drowning and others, and for each situation, many procedures are can be done. In this context, a technological help for the doctors and nurses in the urgency-emergency services using a decision support system that can help the professional to retrieve, from an occurrences database, the most correct procedure that must be executed during the victims support is primordial as a assistant memory mechanism. The indexing and retrieving tests, for this work, were limited for the burn knowledge area. However, the indexing and retrieving mechanism are generic for cases describes in the text format, doesn’t matter the knowledge area.
