Abstract: The Wet Bulb Index - Globe Thermometer, IBUTG, has an important role in planning theactivities that happen on the presence of heat load. The legislation provides, based on the IBUTG, two situationsto work intermittently, with rest on the spot and elsewhere. The aim of this study was to evaluate the forestrycomparing the productivity of timber harvested between two groups of workers with and without rest. The studyarea is located beside the highway BR 060, at km 397, Rio Verde/Goiás. The measured plot was planted withEucalyptus urophylla S. T. Blake, with 24.98 hectares. The index was calculated using the formula for outdoorswith solar load. Was monitored throughout the day in the production volume of wood cut (st), according to fivetimes pre-established (09:00, 11:00, 14:00, 16:00 and 18:00). This was a randomized block design (DBC) in afactorial 2 x 5, and T test at 1% significance. The average IBUTG was found to be 25.8 and the system adoptedwas 45 minutes work and 15 minutes of rest. There were no significant differences at the 99% level ofprobability between the variable analyzed for the groups with and without rest. However, there was significantdifference for the times evaluated. It is evident that regardless of IBUTG calculated, the rest could be offered bythe company at no cost to employees, since no statistically significant difference between the schemes of workadopted.O índice de Bulbo úmido - Term metro de Globo, IBUTG, tem papel importante noplanejamento das atividades que acontecem sobre a presen a de carga térmica. Economia e Sociedade , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-06182008000200002
Abstract: explaining the brazilian economic growth performance during the 20th is a challenging task to academics. as shown, brazil had already experienced faster growth and recently it is far from such belle époque. most explanations are based on conventional frameworks. this paper assesses the balance-of-payments constraint model to brazilian economic growth in the period 1900-2005, highlighting the importance of the terms of trade. the results show, first, that the terms of trade are significant in the estimation of import demand function and change the income elasticity, especially in the first period of the sample (1900-1970), and, second, when the simplest thirlwall's model is controlled by terms of trade, it seems that such variable is important through import growth, which cause changes in economic performance.
Crescimento econ?mico e liquidez externa no Brasil após 1970
Vieira, Fabrício de Assis C.;Holland, Márcio;
Revista de Economia Política , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-31572010000200004
Abstract: economic growth and foreign liquidity in brazil after 1970. this paper assesses the relationship between the capital account and the brazilian economic growth according to balance-of-payments constraint approach. the thirlwall (1979)'s simple rule is extended to take into consideration capital account and several empirical evidence using time series analysis are shown. conversely to the simple rule when fitted rates of balance-of-payment equilibrium economic growth average bellow the observed ones, fitted rates of growth using the rule extended to international liquidity are consistently greater than the observed ones. it is fair to conclude that, first, the brazilian economy grows better during abundant international liquidity and, second, the economy sub utilizes such advantage growing far less than it could grow.

This article aims to contribute to the debate about the role of assessment in the cycle of environmental policies in Brazil discussing the challenges and prospects for the advancement of the tool. For this purpose we made a historical survey of assessment, discussing the concept, classification and uses and finally the assessment of environmental policies based on the assumptions that developed tools for assessment social policies can be adapted to assess environmental policies and tools of environmental field as the Strategic Environmental Assessment can also contribute to advancing the field of study. The findings show that the challenges are great, especially in obtaining data. At first it may not be possible to evaluate impacts broadly, but it is important to assessment criteria relating to transparency, equity and legitimacy, as well as reconstructing the implementation theories. The automatic use of the results is unlikely, but if evaluation is part of a broader framework for improving public management, they have repercussions on policy improvements.

Abstract: Objective: To describe types of interventional medical procedures,its rationale use and benefits for a population with cancer assistedat a private hospital in S o Paulo. Methods: Quantitative anddescriptive cross-sectional study using data from patients submittedto interventional procedures between 2007 and 2008. We useddescriptive and inferential statistics (frequency, mean, and t-test)to analyze data. Results: A total of 137 patients were submitted tointerventional procedures for pain and, out of this total, 14 mentioned cancer-related pain. The mean pain intensity was 7.1 before the procedure and 1.3 after it. Reduction in pain intensity was statistically significant in this population (t=9.09; p=0.001). In almost 70% of patients (n=10) a reduction of 50% of the consumption of opioid a month after the procedure was realized. Conclusion: These results are in accordance with the literature and support the efficacy of interventional procedures for several types of cancer pain.
