El mundo de los periodistas: aspectos teóricos y metodológicos
Pereira, Fabio Henrique;
Comunicación y sociedad , 2010,
Abstract: this paper proposes to discuss the pertinence of the sociological concept of "social world" applied to journalism studies. founded at symbolic interactionism tradition, this concept is generally used to study phenomenon which social recognize exists, but not necessarily in an institutionalized space. in this case, we understand that journalism comprehension must not be limited to newsmaking process, but is extensible to different social spheres. this concept allows escaping from an essentialist vision about journalism to define it as a social reality constructed by symbolic interactions between different actors.

The Pestalozzi Method: Mathematics as a Way to the Truth  [PDF]
Peri Mesquida, Fabio Inácio Pereira, Maurício Eduardo Bernz
Creative Education (CE) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/ce.2017.87078
Abstract: Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi (1746-1827), the father of modern pedagogy (Soetard, 1985), dedicated his life to the pursuit of truth for mankind. This quest considered the education and teaching of children as a whole hence, his famous formula of “head, heart, and hands” was conceived not just as a slogan but, particularly, as a concept of comprehensive education. But how do you get to the truth behind education and teaching? How do you teach and educate children? What method ought to be used for this task? Pestalozzi wrote five volumes on his own Method (in Germany), which were later translated into French, and in these, he aimed to address the three questions mentioned above. Ever since the first attempt to explain the Pestalozzi Method, by Marc Antoine JULLIEN in his work Spirit of the Method of Pestalozzi education (Esprit de la Méthode d’éducation de Pestalozzi) (1812), followed by Daniel Alexandre CHAVANNES in his Elemental Method of H. Pestalozzi (Méthode élémentaire de H. Pestalozzi) (1819) and the works of Soetard (1994) and Throler (2008), many of the Method’s concepts have been discussed and defended. However, the various authors do not appear to have settled on a common ground. Nevertheless, this article aims to offer a reflection on the subject based on a reading and analysis of the texts by Pestalozzi that were translated into French. It will attempt to defend the argument that Pestalozzi appropriated the inductive Method of Locke and Comenios who, like himself, were protestants, and whose methodological resources for finding the “Truth” through both education and teaching involved geometry and mathematics; these were elements that Pestalozzi considered useful for approaching and identifying truth and accuracy.
A Parallel Wavelet-Based Algebraic Multigrid Black-Box Solver and Preconditioner
Fabio Henrique Pereira,Sílvio Ikuyo Nabeta
Journal of Applied Mathematics , 2012, DOI: 10.1155/2012/894074
Abstract: This work introduces a new parallel wavelet-based algorithm for algebraic multigrid method (PWAMG) using a variation of the standard parallel implementation of discrete wavelet transforms. This new approach eliminates the grid coarsening process in traditional algebraic multigrid setup phase simplifying its implementation on distributed memory machines. The PWAMG method is used as a parallel black-box solver and as a preconditioner in some linear equations systems resulting from circuit simulations and 3D finite elements electromagnetic problems. The numerical results evaluate the efficiency of the new approach as a standalone solver and as preconditioner for the biconjugate gradient stabilized iterative method.
Evolution of sarcoma 180 in mice treated with hyperchlorinated water
Pereira, Fausto Edmundo Lima;Chaves, Fabio Benezath;
Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz , 1983, DOI: 10.1590/S0074-02761983000200009
Abstract: mice treated with hyperchlorinated water (50 ppm of chlorine) and control mice, drinking tap water (1-3 ppm of chlorine) were inoculated with 2.5 x 10 [raised to the power of 6] sarcoma 180 cells, by intraperitoneal route. tumor evolution was measured by enumeration of tumor cells in peritoneal cavity and by evaluation of weight gain at different time intervals after tumor implantation. in mice treated with excessive amounts of chlorine there was enhancement of tumor growth demonstrated by: (a) shorter incubation period and increased weight gain (ascites formation) after tumor implantation; (b) increased number of tumor cells in the peritoneal cavity 2, 3 and 4 days after tumor challenge. the number of peritoneal cells exsudated after tumor implantation was lower in mice treated with hyperchlorinated water than in controls. the tumor enhancement observed after excessive chlorine ingestion would be due to: (a) reduction of the number of peritoneal macrophages that migrate to the peritoneal cavity and (b) reduction of the tumoricidal capacity of peritonela macrophages induced by the direct effect of chlorine or by the reduction of the amount of endogenous endotoxins due to the bactericidal effect of chlorine.

Herbal medicines: old and new concepts, truths and misunderstandings
Fabio Carmona,Ana Maria Soares Pereira
Revista Brasileira de Farmacognosia , 2013,
Abstract: Men have been using herbal medicines for thousands of years. The advantages of this type of therapeutics include good availability, local cultural aspects, individual preferences, the increasing demand for natural and organic products, and the already validated synergistic effects of herbal medicines. However, ethically, the scope and limits of these drugs need to be established not only by ethnopharmacological evidences but also by scientific investigations, which confirm the therapeutic effects. With this study, we propose to discuss the possible advantages of using herbal medicines instead of purified compounds, the truth and myths about herbal medicines, drug discovery, and the implications for medical education and health care.
