Abstract: some complexed gold ores present high percent of copper content and it inhibits the direct use of classical hydrometallurgical cyanidation process for gold recovery. this paper presents the experimental results of a hydrometallurgical route for gold ore pre-treatment aiming at extracting copper for further cyanidation. some experiments were carried out using h2so4, fe2(so4)3, h2o2, hcl, hclo4 and nh4oh. the highest percent of copper extracted (50%) was obtained for using sulfuric acid at 82 ± 2oc during 15 minutes, and using a combination of sulfuric acid and hydrogen peroxide at 25 ± 2oc during 15 minutes. the experimental results of this work were lower than 95% percent of copper extracted and considered unsuitable for the cyanidation stage and gold recovery.

Health (Health) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/health.2018.105045
Abstract: The Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is frequently associated with comorbidities such as obesity, reduced glucose tolerance, hypertension, macrovascular disease and dyslipidemia. The Metabolic syndrome occurs in 30% of women with PCOS. Metformin has increasingly been used in this therapy due to its effects in reducing insulin resistance. Treatment of PCOS aims to reduce the symptoms of hyperandrogenism, regularize the menstrual cycle, reduce metabolic abnormalities, and lower the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus and of cardiovascular disease. Additionally it is important to prevent hyperplasia and endometrial cancer, and to offer contraception to those who do not wish pregnancy, and to help to induce ovulation to those who do. The effectiveness of metformin in this treatment is assessed in the light of the current best evidence.
Specialization in nursing management – distance learning in Brazil: Importance and application from the student perspective
Fabiana Silva Okagawa,Elena Bohomol,Isabel Cristina Cunha
Journal of Nursing Education and Practice , 2012, DOI: 10.5430/jnep.v2n4p56
Abstract: Background: This study presents student views on the programmatic content relevant for professional practice, in a distance learning specialization course on Nursing Management. Methods: This was an exploratory, qualitative study done with 216 nursing students from five states in Brazil. Students' comments were classified according to a theoretical reference on the structure of nursing management knowledge endorsed by Sanna, addressing theoretical and ideological foundations, intervention methods, and resource management practices. Results: Students expressed that all subjects in the course are important, prioritizing human and political resource management practices, in addition to highlighting leadership and planning themes. The course met the students' expectations regarding both content mastery and applicability. Conclusions: Distance learning was found to be relevant in national education as a strategy for democratizing knowledge in Brazil, a country of continental dimensions.

Abstract: background: dizziness is a frequent complaint in the geriatric population and has a negative impact in the life quality of these individuals. aim: to correlate the types of dizziness and alterations in the caloric test and to verify the frequency of presbyvertigo in an elderly population with dizziness. method: the records of 132 patients aged over 60 and with balance disturbance were reviewed. these patients were evaluated in the otoneurology service of the clinical hospital of the federal university of minas gerais between the years of 1998 and 2007. the variables considered for analysis were: epidemiologic data, clinical history, associated diseases and the result of the caloric test. patients with positional and central vertigo were excluded from the analysis. results: the research sample consisted of 120 patients, with an average age was of 70 years, being 71% (n=87) of sample women. vertigo with the duration of a few minutes and of a daily frequency was the most frequent type of dizziness. in relation to the caloric test, normal results were observed in 73% of the sample. altered results included unilateral weakness (14%), bilateral weakness (10%) and hyperactive caloric response (3%). correlating the caloric test with the type of dizziness, bilateral weakness was associated with postural instability (p=0.006; ic=2 - 419). conclusion: dizziness in elderly has many causes. bilateral weakness of the vestibular function can be related to presbyvertigo and must be considered in aged individuals who present unbalance. metabolic, psychiatric, disautonomic, orthopedic, visual and proprioceptive disturbances may be the cause of dizziness in aged individuals who present normal vestibular evaluation.

Revista do Hospital das Clínicas , 1999, DOI: 10.1590/S0041-87811999000200002
Abstract: hypoalbuminemia may cause interstitial edema and hemodilution, which we hypothesized may influence serum sodium levels. our purpose was to compare serum sodium levels of hospitalized adults with or without hypoalbuminemia. all sodium and albumin serum levels of 142 adults hospitalized at general medical wards over a six-month period were searched at a university hospital mainframe computer. relevant laboratory data and clinical details were also registered. hypoalbuminemia was defined by serum albumin concentration < 3.3 g/dl fisher, mann-whitney, and student's t tests were applied to compare groups with or without hypoalbuminemia. ninety-nine patients, classified as hypoalbuminemic, had lower blood hemoglobin (10.68 ± 2.62 vs. 13.54 ± 2.41), and sodium (135.1 ± 6.44 vs. 139.9 ± 4.76meq/l) and albumin (2.74 ± 0.35 vs. 3.58 ± 0.28g/dl) serum levels than non-hypoalbuminemic (n=43). pearson's coefficient showed a significant direct correlation between albumin and sodium serum levels (r=0.40) and between serum albumin and blood hemoglobin concentration (r=0.46). our results suggest that hypoalbuminemic adults have lower serum sodium levels than those without hypoalbuminemia, a phenomenon that may be at least partially attributed to body water retention associated with acute phase response syndrome.

Abstract: this research aimed to analyze the core competencies developed in practice by nurses working in prenatal care. this descriptive study with a quantitative approach was carried out at 16 basic health network units in rio branco-ac, brazil, in 2006. data were collected through systematic and non-participant observation. only two (11.76%) of the nurses working in prenatal consultations had taken a specialization course in obstetrics. although the large majority of core competencies expected in prenatal care were developed, some were practiced with low frequency levels, that is, not in all consultations. the results revealed that, despite the nurses' good performance, the need for clarifications should be assessed, about the importance of incorporating care protocols to improve service quality, with a view to reach an excellent competency level in prenatal care.
