Revista Brasileira de Enfermagem , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-71672009000100004
Abstract: this was a qualitative nature, developed with the objective of understanding the impact of a parkinson's diagnosis on the individual and the family. data were collected between october and december 2007, from 20 individuals residing in maringá, pr - 10 parkinson's patients and their closest family member - using semi-structured interviews. from the analysis of the data, two themes emerged: "coming to terms as a parkinson's patient: a long path" and "difficulties and feeling after the diagnosis", which reveal that the lack of knowledge on the disease is widespread among the general population and that the quality of the first contact with the diagnosis is crucial in the determination and attitude of individuals toward the illness.

Navarro-Peternella, Fabiana Magalhes;Marcon, Sonia Silva;
Revista Latino-Americana de Enfermagem , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-11692012000200023
Abstract: parkinson's disease can cause disability and decrease the quality of life in its sufferers. the aim of this study was to evaluate the quality of life of a group of people with parkinson's disease and whether a relationship exists between time of evolution and severity of the disease. secondary analysis was carried out on transversal data collected from 40 individuals with parkinson's disease registered in the parkinson's association of maringá, in maringá-pr-brazil. measures: three instruments were applied: a socio-demographic questionnaire, the hoenh and yahr scale and the parkinson's disease questionnaire (pdq-39). according to pdq-39, men referred to a lower quality of life, although, statistically, there was no significant difference between the two genders. differences were only observed in the dimensions of "activities of daily living" and "social support", in which men presented higher impairment, and "emotions" and "bodily discomfort", where women showed higher impairment. furthermore, severity of disease tended to lead to a perception of lower quality of life regarding the dimensions of "activities of daily living" and "cognition", which is relevant to improve clinical guidance and intervention.

Iheringia. Série Zoologia , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0073-47212007000100013
Abstract: observations on nectar production, flowering and visiting bees were conducted from october 1999 to october 2000 in a wild population of eriope blanchetii (benth) harley (lamiaceae) located at abaeté sand dunes (12o56's, 38o21'w), in salvador, bahia. fifteen bee species were collected with those varying from medium to large-sized being predominant. the effective pollinators were xylocopa cearensis ducke, 1910 and colletes petropolitanus dalla torre, 1896, considering their body size, behaviour and frequency on flowers. flowering is continuous in e. blanchetii and the degree of synchrony, duration and intensity of flowering in individual plants enforces the interplant movement and gene flow provided by pollinators with different energetic demands and generalist behavior. the pollen deposition is ventral at the same site where anthers and stigma touch bee body, but only c. petropolitanus carried pure e. blanchetii pollen loads. pollen grain removal generally occurs during male phase and pollen deposition on receptive stigmas during female phase. nectar was sampled from may to october 2000. its concentration was 22% (n=10 flowers) and total amount produced ranged from 0.01 to 0.98 ml. the highest amount of nectar was found during male phase (u=2972.5; p<0.05), but there was no significant difference in nectar volume between bagged and unbagged flowers (u=3632; p>0.05) nor in relation to flower position on the inflorescence (anova=4.478; p>0.05). daily pattern of flowering, nectar production and accessibility are important attractants for potential pollinators.

Abstract: vocal cord paralysis is a common cause of hoarseness. it may be secondary to many types of lesions along the cranial nerve x pathway and its branches, particularly the laryngeal recurrent nerves. despite the idiopathic nature of a great number of cases, imaging methods play a very significant role in the investigation of etiologic factors, such as thyroid and esophagus neoplasias with secondary invasion of the laryngeal recurrent nerves. other conditions such as aortic and right subclavian artery aneurysms also may be found. the knowledge of local anatomy and related diseases is of great importance for the radiologist, so that he can tailor the examination properly to allow an appropriate diagnosis and therapy planning. additionally, considering that up to 35% of patients with vocal cord paralysis are asymptomatic, the recognition of radiological findings indicative of this condition is essential for the radiologist who must warn the referring physician on the imaging findings. in the present study, the authors review the anatomy and main diseases related to vocal cord paralysis, demonstrating them through typical cases evaluated by computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging, besides describing radiological findings of laryngeal abnormalities indicative of this condition.

Abstract: Applying micronutrients to the soilhas a residual effect, reducing the fertilizer applications that are needed under a no-tillage system. The present study determined the residual effect of applying micronutrient-containing fertilizer to soil used for corn production under a no-tillage system. The field study was conducted in Red Latosol in Goiania, Goiás, Brazil. The experiment was a conducted in a randomized block design with five treatments and four replicates. The fertilizer used in the study contained the micronutrients Mn, Zn, Fe, Cu, and B in powder form and was applied atfour doses (33.33 kg ha-1, 66.66 kg ha-1, 133.32 kg ha-1, and 66.66 kgha-1 plus 1.4 t ha-1 of calcium oxide); a control to which this fertilizer was not applied was used as a reference.The grain yield was measured, and leaf analysis and soil chemical analysis were conducted to evaluate the fertilizer efficiency and residual effect. The soil Zn content remained higherthan pre-experiment levels. Leaf analysis indicatedhigher absorption at the sites with high soil Zn content. The highest yield was obtained when applying 69.08 kg ha-1of micronutrient-containing fertilizer. The micronutrients Mn, Fe, Cu, and B exhibited no significant effect on corn yield, leaf nutrition, or soil residue.
