Importancia da avalia??o da qualidade de vida em pacientes com endometriose
Minson, Fabíola Peixoto;Abro, Maurício Sim?es;Sardá Júnior, Jamir;Kraychete, Durval Campos;Podgaec, Sérgio;Assis, Fabrício Dias;
Revista Brasileira de Ginecologia e Obstetrícia , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-72032012000100003
Abstract: purpose: the present study examined the relationship between some clinical variables and quality of life in a group of patients with endometriosis. methods: a total of 130 women seen at a multidisciplinary center specializing in gynecology endometriosis in 2008 participated in the study. this was a cross-sectional study conducted with a convenience sample. the diagnosis of endometriosis was performed by biopsy according to the criteria of the american society for reproductive medicine. the clinical and demographic data were collected from the patients' records. pain intensity was assessed by a visual numerical scale (0-10), and data on the quality of life were collected using the sf-36. data analysis consisted of descriptive and inferential statistical tests, spearman correlation coefficient and kruskal-wallis test to compare scores between groups. nonparametric tests were used for analysis because data were not normally distributed. results: the patients were 21 to 54 years of age [=34, standard diversion (sd)=6.56], 87% had a university degree, and 75% were married. seventeen percent reported cases of endometriosis in the family. the average time of onset of symptoms was 4.5 years (sd=6.6), 63% of patients were in stage 3 or 4 of endometriosis 36% of patients had severe or disabling dysmenorrhea and the average intensity of pain according to a visual numerical scale was of 5.6 (sd=3.5). results suggest that the staging of the disease did not determine the intensity of pain. the time of onset of symptoms also showed no relationship to pain intensity and sf-36 scores. on the other hand, the intensity of pain was associated with lower scores on some scales of the sf-36. conclusion: patients with endometriosis had lower scores of quality of life than the general population and lower than those of some other diseases.

Abstract: patients with sickle cell disease may present acute or chronic hepatopathy. the acute syndrome is characterized by right upper quadrant abdominal pain and jaundice. the differential diagnoses include acute sickle hepatic crises, hepatic sequestration, sickle cell intrahepatic cholestasis, cholecystitis, choledocholithiasis and acute viral hepatitis. these alterations can be differentiated by a careful history, liver function tests and hepatobiliary imaging studies. the specific treatment must be promptly initiated. red blood cell transfusion is essential for the treatment of the clinical syndromes caused by the sickling process such as hepatic sequestration and sickle cell intrahepatic cholestasis. chronic liver disease is frequently caused by chronic hemolysis and multiple transfusions. in an attempt to prevent, early diagnosis and treatment of chronic liver disease, sickle cell disease patients must be routinely submitted to liver function tests, serologic tests for hepatitis b and c, serum ferritin levels and abdominal ultrasound. liver biopsy may be indicated in patients with virus hepatitis and in patients with persistent and accentuated alterations in liver function tests, out of acute sickle cell hepatic crises.

Sao Paulo Medical Journal , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-31802008000400010
Abstract: context: round pneumonia is a condition usually described in children, with few reports addressing adult patients. it is an oval-shaped consolidation that, due to its radiological appearance, simulates bronchogenic carcinoma. its evolution tends to be benign, although diagnostic dilemmas have sometimes required exploratory thoracotomy. deaths caused by this condition have even been reported. to the best of our knowledge, there have been 31 previous cases of round pneumonia in adults reported in the english and portuguese-language literature, of which only one was completely asymptomatic. case report: the case of a 54-year-old female patient presenting a lung mass found on routine imaging evaluation is reported. respiratory symptoms and signs were absent, but the patient had a significant history of smoking. her physical examination gave normal results. on chest radiographs, a mass located in the middle third of the right lung was observed. three weeks after the initial evaluation, the patient was admitted for a complete evaluation and for staging of a pulmonary malignancy, but repeated chest radiographs showed complete resolution.

Physics , 2013,
Abstract: We present panchromatic isochrone fits to the color magnitude data of the globular cluster NGC 6366, based on HST ACS/WFC and SOAR photometric data. Before performing the isochrone fits, we corrected the photometric data for differential reddening and calculated the mean ridge line of the color magnitude diagrams. We compared the isochrones of Dartmouth Stellar Evolution Database and PAdova and TRieste Stellar Evolution Code (with microscopic diffusion starting on the main sequence). Based on previous determinations of the metallicity of this cluster we test it from [Fe/H]=-1.00 to [Fe/H]= -0.50, and the age from 9 to 13 Gyrs. The uncertainties do not decrease when we fit simultaneous colors. We also find that the Dartmouth Stellar Evolution Database isochrones have a better fit in the sub giant branch and low main sequence than the PAdova and TRieste Stellar Evolution Code. Considering the most recent spectroscopic determination of the metallicity ([Fe/H]= -0.67), we find E(B-V)=0.69+/-0.02, (m-M)_V=15.02+/-0.07 and 11+/-2 Gyr for NGC 6366.

Abstract: this work aimed to identify the patterns of identity and quality of vinegars and quantify the presence of total phenolics compounds in fruit and vegetable vinegars, vinegars made from sugar cane, sugar cane and corn, kiwi, orange, orange and honey, apple, rice, mango, passion fruit, corn, tangerine, tangerine and corn, red wine, and white wine were analyzed in triplicates. analyses of dry extract, density, volatile acidity, ph, ashes, alcoholic content, reducing sugars, and total polyphenols were performed. the results were submitted to anova followed by the tukey's test at 5% significance. there was a statistical correlation between the dry extract and density. all samples presented values of 0% of alcohol. the presence of honey in the vinegar formulation made from orange and honey (43.27 mg eag.100 ml-1) contributed to the increase of total polyphenols content by 50% in relation to the vinegar made from orange (28.83 mg eag.100 ml-1). the orange and honey vinegar presented total polyphenols content (43.27 mg eag.100 ml-1) higher than that of the red wine vinegar (31.86 mg eag.100 ml-1), the orange vinegar, and the tangerine vinegar (34.36 mg eag.100 ml-1). it can be concluded that there were differences among the samples and the analyzed parameters, and that the vinegars made from orange and honey, orange, and tangerine presented higher total polyphenols contents than those of the red wine vinegar.

Revista Dor , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1806-00132011000100008
Abstract: background and objectives: morphine and petidine are the most commonly used opioids to treat pain in hospitalized patients. morphine is recommended by the world health organization (who) and by the international association for the study of pain because it is less toxic than petidine, which is still largely used in brazil and in other developing countries. this study aimed at evaluating the decreased use of petidine after the implementation of an educative program to decrease its consumption. method: intervention, quantitative and prospective study using as information source the pharmacy database. petidine prescriptions were monitored with educative interventions on prescribers, orienting about drug effects and suggesting the change to a different opioid, according to criteria established by who and the international association for the study of pain. opioids prescription data were collected from 2005 to 2009 and were analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistics and linear regression. results: there has been significant decrease (r =0.96, beta = 0.12, p = 0.003) in the use of petidine, as well as a significant increase in the use of morphine (r = 0.96, beta = 0.47, p = 0.02) during the period. conclusion: the implementation of a multidisciplinary and educational protocol to decrease petidine prescription has significantly contributed to decrease its consumption, showing the efficacy of an educative program.

Arquivos de Neuro-Psiquiatria , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0004-282X2002000300030
Abstract: focal somatosensory epileptic seizures ipsilateral to a brain tumor is reported and the literature reviewed. it is an exceptional occurrence, having been described only six cases, with several mechanisms being proposed. the proximity of the lesions with the low cerebral convexity (perisylvian) suggests the compromising of the secondary somatosensorial area, seeming to prove the experimental observation of somatosensorial crises originating in this area.

Abstract: the experiments were carried out (august to november of 1999 and 200) under greenhouse conditions in embrapa cerrados, planaltina-df. in the first assay, passion fruits (cv. marília-msc) cuttings containing two internodes were immersed in iba (indolbutiric acid) solution at 2000 ppm for 10 seconds and planted in expanded polystyrene trays, with 72 units containing eight organic substrates. the evaluation was made 90 days after planting, by determining the percentage of rooted and budded cuttings and the incidence (% of died cuttings) of colletotrichum gloeosporioides. the plantmax florestal estacaò exhibited higher level of budding and rooting and lower incidence of c. gloeosporioides compared to the substrate plantmax hortali?asò. the nutriplantaò combined with osmocoteò was more efficient than the plantmax florestal estacaò. in the second assay, the cuttings of hybrid rc1 ((f1: marilia x roxo australiano) x marília) were collected in august 2000 and treated with 2000 ppm of iba. the organic substrates used were twelve. the results indicated that the rooting level of rc1 cutting was similar for all substrates. the addition of 1g of osinocote per cutting, 30 days after they were planted in substrate plantmax florestal estaca, prorrided the better development to aerial portion for the rc1 hybrid.
